Just thought I'd post this in its own thread in case other people had the same trouble figuring it out that I did.
To harden Alistair using the console, you need to activate the console, and then use the command "runscript zz_den_debug". Make sure that Alistair is not in your party when you run the script. Run it, and select the relationships option, then choose Alistair, and the "has changed" option. This will set Alistair to hardened. Make sure to do a backup save in case something goes wrong. If Alistair is in your party, then the option to edit his relationships doesn't appear, so make sure he's either not in the party, or you're at your camp. Cheers!

Hey, sorry for the necromancy, but I have a question; I ran in to the same issue, I forgot to harden Alistair, now I could go back to the save before I did his quest but that is 30hours ago in my playthrough(I currently have only the landsmeet quest left), I was curious if doing this caused any bug or something bad to happen when importing the save to Awakening and the dlc and Dragon age 2.
