Can I at least be rude?

Why do people insist on making topics that seemed based on showing what a bastard they want to be

Bioware has spoiled us over the years with all those unnecessary role playing possibilities they put in the games. It's obvious to me now renegade lines should have never made it into Mass Effect and Shepard should have been exclusively Paragon. Because why should anyone want anything else?

Responding seriously now: because it's fun to incarnate someone with different beliefs! But there is something didactic, too. You think about how someone else would think, you look at personality traits you don't have, you try to come up with reasons to make a decision you would not normally do. Like in those high school debate classes where you're required to defend a position? So you get outside your comfort zone, challenge your preconceptions a little and end up gaining a better understanding of why you believe what you believe. It's all here.

But mainly because it's fun. Look at Palpatine. He's nuts but he's so fun to watch. It's the same for games.

I get that, but why would you want to?

I don't behave politely in person because I know if I'm rude I can potentially be punished, I'm kind to people because I have empathy. I just don't see the appeal.

If you want to be stern or curt that's okay, you're running an inquisition, it'd make sense for you to bring the hammer down on people sometimes, but just being rude for no reason is just...Why? lol

Because I'm petty and if I can't be happy it is my obligation to make sure everyone is just as miserable as I am.

Okay let me just say this then because they can and because it is a video game. That is the long in short. Note: I am not defending these people. If a video game has a story like SR (Saints Row) then I can understand the entire cast being a a-hats.

People want these options because this is a role-playing game. And not every role you play is gonna be nice.

Considering almost all our companions over the Dragon Age series have a few traits that would make them asshats (Or worse, depending on the character), it's only fair we get to have our moment.

I hope so. I like to be a total a** to them. If I can do it in the game I will. It adds replay value for me.

I want the option to be pensive:  "I don't know how I feel about all this.  Give me a moment."

Or depressed:  "Maker, it's so hopeless isn't it."

Or indecisive:  "Sera, what do YOU think we should do?"

Or... they simply don't have the time to add: "stupid douchebag" to every text tree.  I'm sure it'll be in plenty.

Why do people always seem to ask for this one type of speech when literally thousands are left out of every tree.

Probably because Leliana didn't need to be told that.  In past DA games, usually the nasty responses were saved for when someone was being whiny and getting in the way of your progress.  Leliana just snapped a man's neck with her thigh muscles she was so in favor of getting this crap over with.  Being rude to her right then would have been a waste of breath.

Although it might have been funny to be like "Thanks for getting tortured, Red, saving you wasn't as waste of our time at all." Don't get me wrong, I love Leliana, but sometimes it's hilarious to be cartoonishly awful to characters.

Blackguard, Pale master

Sith

Closed fist

Renegade

Aggressive

There is a tradition in Bioware about aggressive lines. We expect it. There isn't a tradition of depressed characters in Bioware games, so we don't expect it.

And yet in Saints Row, my character was a little on the crazy side, but she wasn't a ******. If anything, she was always willing to do whatever it takes to help out her team.

I really don't understand the, I want to be a totally jerk to the people that are helping me. I get being aggressive/assertive and short tempered/to the point, but full on hate and disdain, not so much. Especially in the demo scenario. You sent Leliana into the situation in the first place. Then after rescuing her, wanting an option to treat her like trash? I just don't see the appeal.

All 'rude' options have been replaced by a series of gestures that BioWare assures us that most will find less than complimentary.

I've played a shining paladin for the vast majority of games, but for my Sith Warrior in TOR, I decided to go full dark side. I had SO MUCH fun.

You are the most rapacious, psychotically evil creature in the galaxy.

Groveling servant: Here is the information you requested. Is there anything else my lord?
SW: Yes... your death! *cut down with lightsaber*

Crime Lord: What's going on here? Where is my daughter?
Little Girl: I'm here, daddy! She didn't hurt me.
Crime Lord: Thank goodness. I was worried when I saw the guard's bodies.
SW: I spared her... so she could watch while I killed you! *cuts down with lightsaber*

Because some people take pleasure out of being douches? Surely you have come across people who are so desperate for that sort of pleasure that they behave that way IRL. So, nothing wrong or surprising in people wanting to be able to RP that in games.

Full dark side sith in TOR is crazy fun. That's probably the most fun I've had in TOR. I guess my problem is that to me Sith and inquisitor (or most other PC characters) just are not on the same playing field. I totally see the appeal of playing an evil character. I just can't picture it in games like DA:I for example.

Why peoples want play as di***.Because it is RPG and they want create their own character and interect with other characters the way they feel?

They could as well replace all dialogues with

-)i agree with you

-)you're right

-)you have a point

And what is point of that? Some peoples will want disagree and some peoples just want tell other characters what they think. This is not necessarily only for those who want play ******* because you assume that peoples always will be ******* not just in that moment.

I have to say, I never laughed more in a Bioware game than in the beginning of DA:O where you have the option to murder knife the prisoner IN THE OSTAGAR CAMP, not ten feet away from a Chantry Sister (who will also hiss "heathen!" at you if you question her at all, which is funny), or when you have the option to murder the soldier at the beginning of the Korcari Wilds.

Warden: It's too late to save him.

Alistair: What? We can just take him back to camp!

Warden: *stab stab*

Alistair: Has anyone ever told you you're insane?

Warden: I SAID it was too late.

Alistair: Remind me never to get injured around you.

I will agree that while being a dick in video games is.. well... dicky, I love just having that option. Especially if I'm roleplaying someone who is rude. I plan on making a dwarf in one of my playthroughs and trust me, he's gonna be one real lewd son of a ******, and I loved how in DAO we were given options to be rude and utterly a total douche, see noble dwarf. It's not trolling to want to have options to be rude. I don't know, I see it from a roleplaying perspective and if I was playing as an insensitive jerk of a dwarf who ends up pushing all of his allies away then so be it. Those are the consequences that that dwarf will have to deal with. Not everyone is playing a perfect pretty game where we have to be the majestic gallant hero.

So yeah, I'm sure there will be an "option 4" to be a dick at other times of the game. I mean we could be aggressive jerks in DA2 right? So I"m sure they won't take those away.
