You probably die at your wedding from poison and blame the dwarf for doing it.
Can I at least be rude?

I'm under impression the new dialogue system keeps both the 'nice' and 'generic rage' options at each dialogue point that DA2 had, they are just more neutral so you don't have a thing like DA2's bipolar Hawke if you dare to pick more than one tone in the conversation. Meaning, that option 3 is actually the 4 that you are looking for. Though maybe minus setting a random kitten on fire in the process.Ok, I get it, I need the help of a bunch of people that I despise and that I have no respect for, so I have to tolerate them and their crap, because I have no choice and I can't defeat the Elder one on my own.
But why the hell am I supposed to be nice to these people?
In the demo when you meet Lilliana, the options are to:
1) Be nice and try to feel for her and tell her that everything will be fine. ( Everything will be alright )
2) Give her props. ( You are tough )
3) Tell her that we have no time to explain to her how we survived. ( Long story )
Why can't I have an option like:
4) Shut up and get going, we have work to do. ( Shut up ) ?
Or something along those lines. Honestly, very frustrating.
That said, the answer to "why the hell am I supposed to be nice to these people" would be, "because you have no choice and can't defeat X on your own", as being rude towards them isn't likely to make them want to help you, or even stick around.

I get that, but why would you want to?
I don't behave politely in person because I know if I'm rude I can potentially be punished, I'm kind to people because I have empathy. I just don't see the appeal.
If you want to be stern or curt that's okay, you're running an inquisition, it'd make sense for you to bring the hammer down on people sometimes, but just being rude for no reason is just...Why? lol
Who said there was no reason? I explained the reason in my very first sentence. I would like to reserve being polite to people that I actually like, and whose company I enjoy.

This, and like I said, it's also a roleplaying mechanic, which Bioware boasts as a huge part of their games for people who like to roleplay.

Why do people insist on making topics that seemed based on showing what a bastard they want to be and how it is stupid to like anything or anyone and reserve the right to kill or belittle everyone they come in contact with? Is it just trolling?
We have been told that we are stuck with established characters that people already had reason to despise, based on previous actions and allegiances, so that hate carries over.

There are always sarcastic lines with out being plain rude .
Not good enough , Leliana is a hated character by some, (me included) who represents a hated organisation, why should we trust her, why should we be anything but hostile? Make HER our spy master? Yea right, because I like being a puppet.....it is on her to prove her loyalty and usefulness and an enforceable unbreakable oath to that effect

This. We have a mutual goal, but we are not supposed to be friends, I want to keep it strictly professional. And if there wasn't a greater enemy to deal with SHE would be my enemy.

Not every player character is going to be some lawful stupid knight in shining armor off to save kittens and fluffy bunnies. Just like the players themselves, they should have their strong likes and dislikes. For example, why would my dale elf inquisitor be anything but hostile to some random shemlen? Or anyone very pro-chantry? Role playing needs these options, otherwise we might as well have pre-created characters and autodialogue.
You need to use diplomacy sometime. Even if your character hate the ''shemlen''.. When you deal with them you don't always have to be an *******. After you get what you want.. Than you can be an *******.
Or sometime it called being a professional.
Human : So you're looking for help ?
Inquisitor : HAHA shemlen you think I care about you ? haha you're ugly woohoo WAWAWAWAWA
Human : Oh sure than.. I will do has you say !!!
Inquisitor : STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPID

being professional would be to kill the traitor before she gets a chance to strike herself.

Has I see it.. The whole thing about this game is about diplomacy in some way. It make no sense to play a racist ****** with an inflated ego.

Oh no, in one dialogue sequence in the 15 minute alpha gameplay you can't be a total arsehole! Whatever can we do :0
Wait till the game comes out to see the dialogue opportunities. Perhaps if your an a hole to leilana before, you can be in the convo.

The choice to be diplomatic or rude should be left to the player to decide. If I want to play a rude character, that should be my choice and the results of those actions should also be mine to bear.
You realize hating someone isn't keeping it professional, right?
You can still hate someones guts and be professional. As my drill instructor put it: "You don't have to like everyone but you damn well have to be able to work with anyone."

It can't be anything to do with her being an established character working for an organisation that can very easily be seen as flat out villainous...noooo can't be that.

i dnt personally play as a rude person on my main playthro but i do like to role play as someone on another character who might be rude or more aggressive in some way. i think its fun to have options like that just to role play and see what does down. yea you don't earn much respect or love from companions and NPCs but thats just another part of seeing what different kind of things happen when you make different choices or play as a different character.

Funny, how I could say something similar about the ones always playing goody two shoes characters who collect every character like pokemon and breed them to be in their perfect little teams.
Roleplaying is about fun and one can have fun on both sides of the scale, that is my take on it. I like this freedom in Bioware games. And while I'm not portraying myself in the character, I like to construct different types of people at different marks of the douche-kind scale and play the game. I suggest that anyone who doesn't play that way atleast respect others for it. Implying that we're kids trying to be cool really only reveals more about your lack of comprehension and immaturity(this to anyone who likes to dismiss this type of preference as childish).
They are the ones that need us, not the other way around. It's because we got the key to all the doors, right in our palm. Without us, they can't close that Rift.
You can be professional while expressing your dislike. These aren't some clients you're dealing with on behalf of your company for you to have to play nice. They need you and they make it very clear as to why. We can do what they want, but there's no reason to do it with a smile on our faces.
For some players, it's all; what's in it for me? When they roleplay as those selfish characters, they need a proper reason to do what must be done. Saving others is nothing to them. They need a better one.
For others, it's a matter of who they are working with. Bioware constantly advertises the order we're building as neutral. I like to think so but I see Chantry agents, Templars, members of the Circle of Magi, to my left and right. So if my character dislikes this religious trinity, then he should have the freedom to express it.
