I mean if Alistair is dead in your play through....Yavana certainly isn't dead...

Not sure, I've heard that the books are cannon yet the comics are not.

I really hope they're not...

I'm pretty sure the comics written by Gaider are canon.  Why wouldn't they be?  Also, killing Alistair in your playthrough doesn't mean someone else didn't kill Yavana.  I wouldn't be upset to see her; I love her hat, but she should be dead.
