I played ME2 and ME3 on PS3. When ME1 was finally out I tried it but I couldn't get used to the combat controls and went back to the other two games. Now I have finished both games on insanity with every class so I thought I would give ME1 one more try, and finish at least one character on insanity through all three games.

My favourite class in ME is the adept, followed by the engineer, then the sentinel, though I don't mind trying any class. Now I read that to unlock insanity, I need to play two times to the end, so that's minimum 3 playthroughs. I heard that ME1 is much harder than ME2, and I'm doing this for the sake of completion only. With that in mind:

1. Which classes should I play first to unlock bonus talents for my adept on insanity? Or should I play as an adept at earlier difficulty levels, then import the adept to insanity for a high level start? I heard decryption and assault rifles are good, so I thought maybe I can do an engineer or soldier on casual first, then an adept on hardcore, then import the adept to insanity.

2. For the adept, and any other class you suggest to play first, are there level-by-level build guides out there? There are SO many options, and I really need someone to hold my hand for this. I normally play JRPGs, and Dragon Age and ME were my first WRPGs ever.

3. I want to be a paragon, romance Kaidan as MShep, keep Wrex, the Rachni queen, Conrad and that mind control asari alive. Are any of these option mutually exclusive?

4. Do I have to delete the intro comic for ME2 to import an ME1 file properly?

Thanks in advance.

1) At a minimum, you will have to play as a Soldier and Engineer to unlock bonus talents for the Adept:

Soldier:

 - 150 kills with the Assault Rifle

 - 150 kills with the Shotgun

 - 150 kills with the Sniper Rifle

Note: You may be able to unlock the weapons talents this with any class, regardless of whether the class has the talent or not. Vanguard and Infiltrator have shotguns and sniper rifles talents respectively.

 - 75 uses of First Aid (any class with First Aid can unlock it such as Engineer; may be able to unlock it with all classes)

Engineer:

 - 75 uses of Overload (Electronics). Must hit an enemy.

 - 75 uses of Sabotage (Decryption). Must hit an enemy.

 - 75 uses of AI Hacking. Must hack a synthetic.

 - 75 uses of Damping. Must hit an enemy.

 - 75 uses of Neural Shock (Medicine). Must hit an enemy; Not sure if needs to be organic

Kills and uses are cumulative across all playthroughs, regardless of saves. What this means is that you can kill one or more enemies with a pistol > load the previous save > kill the same enemies again > repeat until the talent unlocks. with powers.

So you will need to play through for a bit to unlock everything, but you do not need to play an entire game. If you have the patience, you can play a few hours with the Soldier and Engineer to put at least 1 point into all your talents, then constantly reload the same save repeatedly to unlock the bonus powers.

Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles kind of suck until level IV when they start to gain more accuracy. You can use the Dr. Michel exploit and/or save a bunch of credits to buy a Spectre VII weapon early (requires having amassed 1 million credits in the current or previous playthrough).

To unlock the weapons with the Soldier, I would recommend playing on Normal/Casual and saving the points, then save your game, then put points into a weapon talent so you can use it with more ease; reload the save and repeat.

2) There are walkthroughs on the Internet. For the most part, you generally want to put at least 1 point into all your talents as soon as you can before you start maxing them.

If this is your first playthrough, then you are restricted to level 1 on your first playthrough.

If you want to Charm/Intimidate as many people as you can, then you need to put at least 8 points into Charm/Intimidate. Putting 3 points in either one on Eden Prime will allow you to pass all the persuasion checks on that mission.

1 point in First Aid on all squadmates that have it is good enough. It is all diminishing returns after that.

3) You cannot romance Kaidan as a male Shepard in ME1, only as a female Shepard. You can romance him as a male Shepard in ME3. All the other options you list are do-able.

4) No idea. I do not have it myself.

Mass Effect 1 Talent Calculator.

Mass Effect 1, Start of the Journey: Single Playthrough Builds.

When you reach level 20, the Luna VI mission will unlock. Completing this mission will give you access to your class specialization. You start with only 6 available points in the class passive talent tree. Unlocking the specialization will add 6 more points to the talent tree, which will grant different bonuses to certain abilities. Each class can choose 1 of 2 specialiations. The next time you access the galaxy map, Admiral Hackett will give you the mission. If he does not (another call may override it), travel to a different system and try again. It will eventually unlock.

That is all I can think of at the moment. If I recall more, I will see what I can do.

Oh yeah, one more thing: You need to complete the game on Veteran to unlock Hardcore, then play on Hardcore to unlock Insanity. (Veteran should be unlocked immediately.)

You need to set the difficulty before landing on Eden Prime (while still on the Normandy). You may be able to set it on Eden Prime before the first combat sequence and have it still work, but I cannot confirm or deny if that is true. This is so you can unlock the Hardcore and Insanity difficulties with imports if you so choose.

Thanks Caesar for all the advice and links. I actually started an adept before reading your posts, but I'm on hardcore now and I'm destroying everything with my pistol and biotics, so I think I can manage without a bonus talent. Kaidan helps me with unlocking stuff and Wrex is my invincible tank, and they supplement my biotics if I'm on cooldown. Hopefully insanity will be more challenging.

BTW FYI I unlocked hardcore by just finishing the game, no need to be on veteran the whole way as I started on casual first.

You pick assault rifle bonus power because the armor skill is über useless, and you need to put points in it to unlock the pistol skill.

That, and assault rifles are awesome.

Remaining points (8, finished at level 55) went into the following skills:

maxed out charm, intimidate, spectre training (6 points)
the remaining 2 points went into Stasis.

Yes, that's right. The only maxed out biotic skill I had was singularity. And the class skill :P

Bastion is a wonderful specilization btw. I used to never even put a single point into barrier, and by extension stasis. But picking Bastion once changed my outlook on Adepts. The adjusted barrier becomes a massive defensive skill, and the adjusted stasis skill will make you feel like a God.

Plus, you can play 'lets see how long we can keep this group of enemies in the air with singularies?' with Liara at higher levels, and come to the conclusion the answer is: forever.

Max out lift.  It works on everything except turrets, drones and thresher maws at max level.  It will even work on the big four legger geth.  Also unless you're using a high heat build on AR's I wouldn't have bothered taking the skill past about 9.  The return on skill points becomes less and less effective after that.

Double scram rails ;)

Also I didn't really have need for master lift because before Virmire I had Kaidan in my squad, afterwards Liara.

I would've taken AR as a bonus power but I already started the main game before unlocking it. However I did slap on the Spectre Master AR at rank X with two frictionless materials X and inferno X. It's a decent backup weapon when I get sabotaged by the annoying enemy engineers, although I wish I didn't sell all my accuracy mods.

I replaced Wrex with Liara for insanity. With Kaidan and Liara, everything on the battlefield is constantly flying around with maxed out lift and singularity, and everything that is immune is stasised, warped, sabotaged, overloaded, and then blasted into smithereens before they can do any damage to me. I started doing all the mako battles on foot, even on hazard worlds, and it's so glorious to gun down those colossi, heavy turrets and thresher maws one by one as revenge for all those annoying mako fights. Only a fool punches a nathak in the mouth? I made Wrex swallow those words as I took down the heavy turrets on Therum on foot alone with my pistol and biotics.

My favorite part is during Tali's recruitment when I planted a maxed out singularity in a sweet spot, and after the battle during the conversation with Tali, one of the flying crates smacked the back of Wrex's head and pushed him right in front of Tali's helmet.
