What is an american accent? I've lived here all my life and I still don't know what that means. Referring to the South, the Southwest, the midwest, the northeast/west. I'm pretty confused by this.

An American accent is an accent from the Northern Americas. An English accent is an accent from England. A British accent is an accent from the British Isles.

Yes, there is more than one American accent, just like there's more than one English, British, French, Spanish, Canadian, Australian, or Indian accents.

Uhm, Loghain and the Couslands definitely had English accents, not necessarily the stereotypical "heavy" English accents but English no less.

They did NOT sound American at all.

I always assumed that was the reason Bodahn and Sandal have British accents. Though, the fact that Bodahn live most of his life in Orzammar belies that. Maybe he affects it to facilitate trade with Fereldans.

...Or maybe he traded accents with Wynne at some point... Wynne being the only Ferelden with an American accent kinda bugged me.

Duncan and Flemeth also have American accents. It didn't bug me, it intrigued me.

British=English?

Merrill had a Welch accent, which is a British accent, but not an English one.

"British" is a bit general I feel, Ireland and Scotland are part of Britain but Irish and Scottish accents are totally different from English ones.

British is general, but probably a better term than 'European native English language accents,' especially as few people on the British Isles consider themselves European.

I'm going as an Elven Inquisitor and gonna be going for the American voice to sound a bit more exotic since the common tongue is usually spoken with one of the various English accents. Plus it's a throwback to the DAO elves who all were American before becoming Irish/Welsh *not that I"m complaining, I love the way that accent sounds* IN fact, I wish we got a chance to be welsh since I absolutely adore that accent and it would've been awesome but i understand why we don't. It' simpressive enough that we have two sets of voices per accent per gender.

Not exactly. Politically, Britain refers to the main island which consists of the smaller countries of England, Wales, and Scotland. So when you say "British" accent, it can get a little confusing. But since I'm not from there, and I can only go by second hand information, those from Scotland would rather call themselves and anything that pertains to them (accents included) Scottish, rather than British, and I think this would be a similar case with the Welsh.

Then it gets to the English accent, and it's like "oh, from what part of England are you referring to?", because you have those from the West Midlands like Birmingham or from the north like Manchester can sound very different from those who are from the southern part of England, like London, which is the accent many people seem to refer to whenever they think of the "British" accent.

I'm hoping for pitch sliders so we can decide how deep a voice we want, but even if that's not the case I'm already super happy that we get two voices to choose from for each gender. It's extraordinary.

Yeah, I would like that for my Qunari. The only hurdle is to make it sound organic and not artificial like in Saints Row 4.

Yeah, I'm actually hoping for Dragon's Dogma's approach where they had three pitch choices per voice, the regular tone, the lower tone and the higher tone. I think that would be the best way and at the same time not making the voices sound robotic if they were looking into pitching. I think that's only fair. While I love the voice actors for the Inquisitor, what i hated the most in DA2 *and in ME as a whole mind you* was that I could never continue the game in the face i wanted to make because the voice didn't fit the face at all. Not saying that I dislike the voice talent but Hawke was too gruff of a voice for a man I made who appeared more lithe and gentle.

Humans of Ferelden, Tevinter, The Free Marches, Rivain and possibly the Anderfels all have English accents. They also seemed to have retconed the city elves to also have them as well, at least in those places. The only humans to have American accents are Brother Genetivi, Wynne and Viveka (from the Blooming Rose). They appear to be the exceptions. And I guess Flemeth, if you count her. I guess Dwarves are the only people who are supposed to have American accents in lore now.

Don't forget Duncan. I forgot about Genetivi. Also, I think Tevinter and Rivain have a mixture of accents and the Anderfels would have German accents.

I was under the impression that Nevarra would be more German @_@ but that's just me. I wish Bioware had a guide of which real world accent is msot prominent in which nation/race.

Peter Renaday is American in real life but I think he was doing a British accent (or an approximation) for Duncan. So far we've only seen 2 characters from the Anderfels (Anders and Mistress Woolsey) and they both sounded English.

Going to be very easy for me:

Human & Elf: Alix & Harry

Qunari and Dwarf: Sumalee & Jon

Personally, I'm less concerned with accent and more likely to choose based purely on the voice and how it fits my character.  Alix's voice is a bit prettier/more girly, while Sumalee's (if it sounds anything like the couple examples I've heard) is tougher and grittier.  I love both, but since I like to play girls who are more stoic/tough/badass, I'll choose Sumalee's voice regardless of what race I'm playing.
