Do you people understand that it doesn't matter which windows are you playing on when you want to play Civilization III with a Pentium 1 200 MHz for example?
You should consider the Processor generation, not the windows.

Well it does effect certain games. Say, Windows 95 had no chance of running Red Alert 2. So I think mentioning generations does give a good idea of what games were available to you.

However Windows 95 look the same as 98, ME and 2000. They were like the same consoles with slight difference in appearance and OS (not the 64-bit one though).
PS4
360
I have a handheld, but those are my two main loves ![]()

I think the Windows version is a better simple, shorthand description of the system than the processor.
Within the distance of a PC generation, the exact choice of CPU doesn't really matter much. The graphics system, otoh, is a colossal factor, dwarfing everything else to complete insignificance. Which poses the relevant question - how detailed should our PC descriptions be? In an audience where the identity behind all those digits and letters are mostly unknown or forgotten? For the purpose of this particular thread?
The windows version may look the same to you (but they're definitely much different), but is IMO appropriate, because it fixes the general age and capacity of the PC, the hardware standards and interfaces which were supported, the DirectX, and to a significant degree also which games would run on it. Which I think is the main point here.
Between PC geeks, the CPU+Graphics and maybe RAM should make interesting lists. However, it'd also reveal how many PCs I've had over the years, which could be embarrassing.

Haha nope!! When I was married, I convinced my husband to buy me some extra consoles for the other bedrooms we had, we were living in a bigger place, because I didn't want to drag my consoles from room to room when I wanted to play in a different room and since he wasn't a gamer naturally I got all of my consoles/TV's with me in the divorce, they aren't broken you know, they still work, so I just use some of them in my bedroom and such now lol ![]()

For a second there I was worried? That's some serious gaming love if you insisted on getting consoles for each of the main rooms in your house. Having said that, it is pain in the ass moving my PS3, PS4 and XBox One back and forth between my bedroom and the living room, maybe I should follow suit.
Haha it's both! Serious gaming love AND a pain in the ass moving the consoles back and forth... so yeah.. follow suit buddy, best advice I can give ya LOL ![]()

Atari 2600
Between this and the arrival of Nintendo into my household there was some wheel of fortune and family feud on my fathers IBM PC when I was a little ninja.

Nintendo
Game Boy
Super Nintendo
Game Gear
PlayStation
Nintendo 64
Sega Dreamcast... what a bust that turned out to be
PlayStation 2
Xbox
Xbox 360
Xbox One
Atari 2600
Nintendo ES
MegaDrive/Genesis
Snes
NeoGeo CD
Sega Saturn
Nintendo 64
Sega Dreamcast
Playstation 2 (I skipped PS1, but managed to emulate it on ps2)
PC (Msdos, Windows NT, 95, 98, XP, 7).
And yes, I´m old.
My favorite systems? Ok, the top 5:
5-Atari 2600
4-Genesis
3-PS2
2-Snes
1-NES
But nowadays, I´m only a pc gamer. Largely due to Gog and Steam-like services. I might purchase a Wii U next year. Things like Mario Kart, Bayoneta 2 and the new Smash Bros (with Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man and Megaman all together) seem to make a compelling argument for me to purchase it. It´s the only console so far with exclusives that really interest me and offer a totally diverse experience from what I get on PC. PS4 and X1 are a little too new, unproven, cosdtly and with few titles for me. In 18 months I´ll probably think differently.
PC:
-Since WIN-DOS
-First owned computer Win 2000
-Owned two laptops in past, currently one desktop (Win 7)
Handheld:
-Had Gamegear once
-Owned Gameboy Color, was stolen at a Track-and-Field event!
-Currently own a Gameboy 3DS with a few games
-I don't mobile game
Consoles:
-Had a PS1 once
-Had an older PS2 (sold it)
-Had an older 360 (red ringed eventually)
-Currently own another PS2, the newer model of 360 (black elite)
-Boyfriend here has his Wii, WiiU, Gamecube, SNES, PC, Gameboy Color
As a younger child, I was more about PC and handheld.
As an older child, I was more about consoles (PS1).
As a young adult, I was more about PC and consoles - particularly consoles (PS2, 360).
As an adult (24, still youngish), I've become a primarily PC gamer, with room for consoles (360, but open to PS4 at some point).
My real gaming life started on the PS1. Anything before that wasn't enough to really suck me into the hobby. This continued to the PS2, then 360, and now PC.
Sony --> Microsoft --> PC
