I put a ring with 50 bonus to physical resistance to an enemy and my level 1 character managed to stun him with shield bash.
how does physical resistance work?

I do know that having a high physical resistance (even at 100) doesn't make you immune to stuns, knockdown effects, etc because when you do try a talent or spell that checks an enemy for physical or mental resistance, it runs through checks of a few things applied into an equation which, then a "dice" is rolled that helps determine whether you get 80%-120% of whatever physical resistance on the attacking end (assuming you're the one shield bashing). In other words, the ability to be stunned, knocked down, etc is non determinant even with a maxed out physical resistance rating. (the archdemon can still be stunned with Dirty Fighting, despite his physical resistance although the chance is low.)

im not sure, but one of my character has 250 strength and 300 constitution and the max physical resistance that it reached was 100. But if you give a character items boosting physical resistance, im sure it'd go higher.
