After seeing how bad-ass Cullen looks in DA:I & his devotion to the Templars & the Maker, inspired me to make a Templar warrior. I wish to know more about Templars, Cullen, and what exactly is the maker? I also wish to know any builds for a Templar warrior. I'm thinking about going either 2h or S&S.

What your character's origin?
What is your character's personality?
For example, Marcus is my Male Human Noble Rogue. Well He is notorious sneaky and prefers to flank, sneak attack and general CQC. so Duel wielding, Assassin and completing the entire Rogue skillset compliments him a great deal. Yes he is supposed to be the opposite of Fergasus, a sword and board warrior.
You can go the typical Human Warrior/Templar or City Elf. For Roleplaying purposes, they would be with the Chantry. Good Atypical templars would be Dwarf and Dalish Elf. The question why would your dwarf or Dalish Elf would want to be a Templar. Well personally, I do see An Elf of either origins would be a good Duel Wielder. Sword and Board is commonplace for Dwarf Noble. Dwarf Common would be more suited for Rogue/assassin due to they are an enforcer for a carta/
So If you going tanking, Sword and boards is good due to how I use Alistar. Howbeit He is a bit naive, he is a good example of a Templar and dedicated sword and board if you build him as such. Sten and Orghen are good 2 handers if you build them properly. Between Sten, my Rogue, Orghen and Zevran, we cleaned the Deep Roads at a scary pace. Yes it is rainbow puking experience due to it is an wonderful experience of death and destruction.

For both role play and combat reasons, I prefer to be a Human Templar/Champion Warrior. He is a Templar recruit whose timid of the thought about killing mages and the chantry's intentions. He questions how the Mages and Templars run the circles and questions his superiors. Sometimes he wonders why the chantry exists and he is somewhat agonistic. But when ordered to fulfill the annulment, he shuts out emotions or any train of thought and focuses on slaughtering every mage in sight or any Templar's that shows incompetence or steps in his way.
Despite his morals, ideals, or beliefs, if the end justify the means so be it!

Oh to be a buckethead! I guess you would have to simply learn the Templar stuff from Alistair along with champion stuff, wear Templar armour, love the chantry and kill the mages.
Cullen is a climeable sweetypie amongst toads (to start with).

My f!Cousland, Moira, (points at teh ugly avatar girl) is a S+S Templar/Champion.
Her backstory is an 'Arya Stark' kind of thing (though Moira's creation preceded my awareness of ASoIaF), the little girl in love with swords and the mechanics of fighting. She wants to be a soldier. She voluntarily becomes a Grey Warden. She's also a very devout, extremely naïve believer in what the Chantry is selling (at least at the outset), and so jumps like an excited Mabari at the chance to suck Templar knowledge like a vampire acquire Templar skills from Alistair. (He'll have to like the PC before he'll do that. Moira really had to work hard at getting to that point. Like, starting from -50-ish Disapproval hard, after her kill-all the-Circle-mages, kill Demon!Connor antics. Oh, and berating him for being royal. Can't forget that. /pointless digression :-/)
IIRC, she got 2 points in STR at each level up, and early on, the other into either DEX or CON. Later I pumped the 3rd attribute point and any tomes into WP for the added stamina pool. Mmmm... stamina. Look for gear that buffs Willpower, Stamina, and Combat Stamina regen. (Moira and Alistair arm wrestle for Maric's Blade, best two out of three.)
Pretty sure she ended with the full Sword and Shield talent tree. Definitely all talents in Champion. And maxxed Templar talents, of course.
Moira ran for a good part of game with just Dog and Alistair (dual wield off tank doing respectable DPS). A pair of Warriors leading with the one-two-three-four punch of War Cry + Superiority and Holy Smite usually leave nothing in melee range but a boss to clean up.
<gratuitous insertion of piccy of Mo being all Templar-y and stuff and at least it's not the tired old screencap I always post of her soloing not!Andraste so hush>

Yeah, I
my Templar babbies. Sorry.

(and photobomb by Barbarian!Leliana)
ETA that I planned from the start to give her Templar as a spec, and is her stupid backstory was contrived with that purpose. I'm one of those people who needs a logical reason for things, and that's the best I could do.
