In the second part of the latest demo there was a moment where presence of Dorian opend up some area during the quest. MD commented that this is how every level is designed: you have a particular companion in the group - you can get some additional content.

Love the idea but have a question now: would we get some hints about who is supposed to be on every mission to get the most of it? Like Dorian steps up and say "I would like to go with you if you are heading to Redcliff"?

Would not mind to find every additional piece of content with a different playthrough with different group composition. Still it would not hurt to know in advance who will be the best companion in different situations.

Probably, considering alexius seems like a pretty major character I imagine the game tells you that he was dorian's mentor.

If it is critical sure i wouldnt mind, but if it isnt then no i dont want to know, i would rather it be left for me to discover, purely selfish reasons tbh, i play the rotten hell out of bioware games an it be good to know in subsequent play throughs that i have yet more "new" content to discover

I'd be more interested if it was not so obvious, or what you may consider to be 'obvious' may be the wrong choice leading to outcomes you didn't want. Not sure if Leliana is an optional character to take on that quest, but it seems like it would be better not to take her, as she seems a bit temperamental. Doesn't seem like the old leliana :/

I imagine it playing out just like in previous BW games whenever a certain quest has optional scenes with a specific character; he / she will either directly ask to come along, or It is left for you to figure out that he / she might be 'vital' to bring along.

This is exactly my thought too. I never had any difficulty in any of their other games when I went with the advice or urging of my companion/s, or pretty obvious hints on what was the "correct" or optimal path to take for a good outcome. It's always nice to go against the advice and see the bad outcomes too. ME2 suicide mission comes to mind.

This is not exactly ME2 suicide mission. The way MD put it, it was more like "if" you have that character "then" you get an additional area to explore. Actually, we did not have anything like that in previous games. You could miss some companions quests or cutscenes, or get some "bad" result - sure, but the area you can miss... Do not remember anything like it.
