Game style: No retreat or rewinder?

Case in point. The recent E3 demo shows a scene where a companion 'apparently dies'.

Are you a 'no retreat' player that progresses through your play through regardless of consequences? Taking the hits, dealing with bad decisions and coping with missed opportunities and character deaths?

Or do you cling to a variety of save points and move cautiously forward checking branching decisions and reloading often if something does not satisfy in a scene or section?

I probably rewind too much. I wish I had the guts on play though no.1 to truly go forward and experience the world without resetting.

What do you do?

I'm lazy.

How long ago was the choice that led to this moment? If more than 30 minutes, I can't be bothered to fix it. Alternatively, if I can easily game the system, I'll do so.

Keep playing even if I pick the wrong paths and suffer for it later. I made many mistakes in my first playthroughs of DAO and ME2, pretty funny looking back on it now.

I usually trek on no matter what. It adds to replay value. The only time I did go to an old save was when I wanted to try a play through of Mass Effect where Kaidan dies at the bomb. Felt bad and replaced him with Ash..again... lol!!

I rewind. A lot. Especially on my first play-through where I always try to exhaust every conversation option just to be sure that I’m saying the right thing.

Doing things on a whim is not my thing.

I will usually accept the consequences of my actions being something I didn't want/have in mind, but if it's something I really do not want, yeah...I'll reload.

I'll reload for conversations to get the best outcome from talking to someone, like companion bonus, but I don't go back and change a decision that I made hours ago just because I didn't like them.  I just make a mental note not to do that again next time and it gives me more reason to go back and replay the game which is a good thing when I'm spending $50+ on a game.

Habitually, I spoil myself beforehand and do neither. However, I intend to play otherwise here, and in that case I have no problems with rewinding.

My first playthrough is typically all about instinct and sometimes the failure of that instinct. I like it to be as fraught and emotional as possible, and making mistakes and living with the consequences is part of that for me. My best memories of DA:O and DA2 all come from my first playthroughs because of this.

On replays, I am more meta-gamey and analytical, in order to acheive specific outcomes.

If something happens that was'nt my fault then I restart from a earlier save, but I'm a cautious player in terms of RPGs so I often reload many times.

First playthrough for this game will be no retreat, which probably means it's going to go horribly wrong. After that it will be numerous save approach so that I can probably play a couple of different outcomes with one inquisitor.

Pardon me, but I'd like to also tag onto you initial question OP, if Sera is dead ... Then what happened to IB, after all they did go out the door together, no?

On the first playthrough (and possibly second): No rewind, unless I misunderstood the option I chose.

Following playthroughs: Meta gaming and constant rewind.

Gaming the system is for later playthroughs, if at all.  Refusing to accept the consequences of your actions isn't playing the game.

depends.

if it's recent (30 min max or two steps of major quests or few minor quests) and i've underestimated the dialogue wheel (option 'bye' leads to two minute monologue about weather, pigeon plague and platitudes praising the other participant, ending with 'Maker be with you'), i'll rollback till i'm satisfied with the dialogue or my f9 key falls off the keyboard. if it was conscious choice (taking someone on a mission) - i'm not reloading

No retreat, always onwards!

I'd never try to have a first run be "perfect", since I think that makes later play throughs less entertaining.

I usually go in with my spoiler ammo so this isn't necessary.

But if it is I'm not reloading if it was more than 3 hours ago. I'll fix that on a second playthrough.

My thoughts exactly!  Unless my love interest dies, which in that case I would be more invested to back track a great deal if need be.  I may have to buy the guide.

His head will look far more impressive on a pike?

On the reload thing, I tend not to for plot related occurences, because you see lots of interesting stuff if you just go with the flow. But if I don't like how I performed in combat or my character delivers a line of dialog I find jarring I'll F9 that sucker the first chance I get.

Never rewind on first playthrough.  After that, I do whatever I can to craft the story I want.

If it's something minor, I'll leave it be. If it's something major (e.g. I accidentally make a decision that gets Morrigan killed), I'll take the time to go back and fix it.
