Hope Bioware sees this, they would be interested and might even affect some things in their development and management.

I doubt it.We BSNers are mostly hardcore fans,we're just a small percentage of customers. If you'd present the average gamer with this poll the results would be drastically different,im sure.

Thank you so much, daveliam B) . If you don't mind, I would add it to the OP.

No worries.  Of course you can!

You could read those results? Explain the other one using the words stats system, I curious about the playthrough of previous game stats.

Yeah, those last two columns are difficult to read because they are actually meaningless.  The problem is that the survey system counted them as continuous quantitative variables, when in reality they are actually nominal categorical variables.  In other words, the system counted them as if they were numeric values (with 1 being the first "number" and 5 or 6 being the last 'number').  But they aren't numbers, they're categories, so it's a useless figure.  If the numbers actually meant anything, then they would represent the mean (average) and standard deviation (distribution of scores, roughly) of those numbers.

Yay!  Advanced Quantitative Research Methodology for Doctoral Students finally paid off!

I just want to chime in and clarify that, by virtue of this being a computer survey on a video game forum, we're going to have some inherently skewed results. Just being on the BSN gives a heavy slant toward reaching people that are primarily PC gamers.

Pretty sure if we had a survey that only showed up on our Xbox or Playstations, the survery would be saying, "Oh man, PC gaming is DEAD, huh?"

That's not to take anything way from the survey results, since they're pretty interesting, but let's keep that in mind before some people start waving their Platform Victory flag.

Also, an excellent point.  This only speaks to the demographic who it represents: in this case, BSNers.  Not the Dragon Age fanbase and especially not the larger gaming community.

Looks like most are going for a Qunari mage on their first play...

Dwarven rogue is the runner up oddly (I thought elven rogue would be).

Screw your rogues and your mages! Warrior master race is the way to go.

I was surprised by this too. I have read on the forum somewhere that dwarfs are not the most popular characters to be played but appearently they are on the way up now.

Actually this is confusing as well.  That's why I created the other list.  The numbers there don't represent the percentages overall, they represent each row as a single entity.  In other words, the numbers are disaggregated by row.  So the 59% that you see for dwarf rogue doesn't represent that 59% of players are picking dwarf rogues.  It represents that 59% of dwarf players are picking rogues.  If you add those percentages up across rows, you'll see that each row represents 100% (and no representation like this can be more than 100%).

That's why I aggregated the results by taking the Σ, which is actually being used incorrectly in this case (sigma normally represents a sum, but they are using it represent an N or total number of observances), and totaling them up and taking the percentage of each number of answers by the total amount of answers.  In other words, there were 484 people who answered that question, of which 29 of them picked dwarven rogue.  That number represents 6% of the total N.  In practical purposes, it means that only 6% of people will play a dwarf rogue the first time around, but 59% of all people who pick dwarves are picking rogues.

I hope that this clarifies things a bit.

It makes sense that most Dragon Age "hardcore" fans are in the 20-24 since most of us started playing Origins in our teens

Also it is notable that more people are interested in Story and Romance than Combat but I think that's a given considering the "hardcore" fan base are usually more invested in lore and friendship.

Pretty good survey. I'm not surprised by the majority of the results, but I like hard numbers.

Interesting that I fall in the majority for the first four questions.  I would've expected the average age group was higher, but the rest is what I'd expect.

Thanks for posting those results.  I'm not too terribly shocked by the majority of the results.

To break down the race/class combinations a bit differently, from that poll, this is the first characters that we will be playing (as of now): (*note, I dismissed the three people who want to play as a dwarf mage.  How did Dagna get access to the survey and why did she answer three times!?!)

Human Mage - 15%

Human Warrior - 15%

Qunari Mage - 15%

Elf Mage - 13%

Human Rogue - 12%

Elf Rogue - 10%

Qunari Warrior - 6%

Dwarf Rogue - 6%

Dwarf Warrior - 4%

Elf Warrior - 2%

Qunari Rogue - 2%

Humans - 42%

Elves - 25%

Qunari - 23%

Dwarves - 10%

Mages - 43%

Rogues - 30%

Warriors - 27%

I'm a bit surprised by these results specifically.  I expected way more humans (qunari seemed to have cut into their numbers, while elves and dwarves seem about the same as DA: O, right?) and way more warriors (I wasn't expecting almost half of the players to pick mages).  Also, no one combination really stood out over the others.  I thought for sure human warrior and elf mage were going to be runaway favorites, but it's fairly even among the most popular five combinations.

Thanks for putting this together Caja!

Thank you for posting this. I didn't understand those numbers in the poll results.

And thanks to Caja for this poll. Ok, it doesn't represent the DA fans, but it gives a nice idea of the people that are in the Dragon Age Inquisition subforum. Not surprised about the results. Gender, age, and of course platform, was almost what I was expecting beforehand. And now, with these last numbers, it seems that mages have attracted the attention of everyone. Also, it seems that including the Qunari as a playable race has been a very good idea.

I only got Origins because it was on sale. Didnt properly play it until this year  So that was about a 3 year gap between buying and playing.

Interesting poll though. Maybe Bioware should do their own one for bigger numbers

I'd be curious to see where the results all per gender. To see if guys tended to be one class//race more than girls, or what each gender looks forward to most about the game.

Don't know how easy that is to get from the poll...

You can't get it from this poll, I would suspect.  Unless Caja has access to the data spreadsheet on the back end of the survey.  If you want, Caja, to send that to me, I'd be happy to take a quick look at it and see how it shakes out by gender.

I totally does *g*. I added it to the OP!

Edit: What sheet... ? I will have a look if I can get any more sheets out of that thing :D !

Well it's even a smaller percentage of the BSN as a whole since we only see 406/722 answers. Then again, that's how polls like this are done, but it would have been interesting to see all of the results.

Well he could have done it all manually (that's always fun) and then calculated the results with SPSS or some other statistics program, but that's a bit extreme (still fun though).

Damn, I though I'd be the only one in the 15-19 age group. And we got someone over 70??!! Talk about diversity in an audience. Also, most people play human Warrior and Human mage, interesting.

If BioWare sees this, it would just cement the idea that the BSN cannot be counted on for feedback.

The majority of Origin players didn't even finish the game. Less than 10% play more than once. Yet 94% of BSNers have 2 or more playthroughs.

We're freakish.

I rarely do because they can't be mages. I guess a dwarf mage would be too awesome. :(

Best reason I've seen not to play a dwarf yet.
