Why do so few people want to play dwarves, they are my favorite T___T
Because they're short.
Why do so few people want to play dwarves, they are my favorite T___T
Thanks for posting those results. I'm not too terribly shocked by the majority of the results.
To break down the race/class combinations a bit differently, from that poll, this is the first characters that we will be playing (as of now): (*note, I dismissed the three people who want to play as a dwarf mage. How did Dagna get access to the survey and why did she answer three times!?!)
Human Mage - 15%
Human Warrior - 15%
Qunari Mage - 15%
Elf Mage - 13%
Human Rogue - 12%
Elf Rogue - 10%
Qunari Warrior - 6%
Dwarf Rogue - 6%
Dwarf Warrior - 4%
Elf Warrior - 2%
Qunari Rogue - 2%
Humans - 42%
Elves - 25%
Qunari - 23%
Dwarves - 10%
Mages - 43%
Rogues - 30%
Warriors - 27%
I'm a bit surprised by these results specifically. I expected way more humans (qunari seemed to have cut into their numbers, while elves and dwarves seem about the same as DA: O, right?) and way more warriors (I wasn't expecting almost half of the players to pick mages). Also, no one combination really stood out over the others. I thought for sure human warrior and elf mage were going to be runaway favorites, but it's fairly even among the most popular five combinations.
Thanks for putting this together Caja!
Hmm... how exactly did you determine how things were split by race. When I answered I picked a class for each race, but there was no opportunity to say which race I'd be starting with?
(It would have been dwarf).
Also, Dagna's very enthusiastic about polls.
It's nice to see where I stand with the mass
Where do you live : Canada 7.4 % ( This is surprising . I though we were more canadian here)
Male : 57.4 %
Hold old are you ? : 30-34 14,3 % ( I feel oooooooooooooooold)
Platform : PC 70 %
( hmm)
How often you played through DA:O : More than three times 73.6 %
( That good to know lol)
How often you played through DA2 : Two times 24 % ( I see I see)
First class you will play in DAI : Qunari Warrior (still unsure though)
What you're most looking for : Story 92,1 %
( Not surprising at all. Especially on the BSN forum)
I suspected PC players might be a slight majority on this board... but 70%! That high I would never had guessed.
Uh...70%?
I suppose you'd only get that by not adding together all of the console players into one category. If you do that there are 277 console players and 284 PC players in the sample.
That is not 70%, in fact it's pretty close to a 50/50 split (yes, I know that it's not actually a 50/50 split).
Although, since you could vote on two options for that question it skews the numbers. In total there are 561 votes, but the entire poll only counted 406 people. This means that roughly 155 people voted twice, and since we don't know which two options they chose we can't clearly say that there is an actual 50/50 split.
It's such a major error!!! THE HUMANITY OF IT ALL!!! (To people that care about statistics anyways).
Edit: I don't even know how to quantify the three people that voted for Other.
Because they're short.
Why dis hate for short people ? ![]()
Tyrion Lannister is a badass and he is a dwarf !
Well it's even a smaller percentage of the BSN as a whole since we only see 406/722 answers. Then again, that's how polls like this are done, but it would have been interesting to see all of the results.
Well he could have done it all manually (that's always fun) and then calculated the results with SPSS or some other statistics program, but that's a bit extreme (still fun though).
Agreed. I am interested in seeing all the results too but as I said, it would be too expensive for something that was actually just for fun. I even thought about setting something up manually but that didn't sound like fun at all. (Also, I'm a she
).
@ Dermain:
Well, when I started I didn't really believe that a poll like this had any statistically value. First of all, I thought that not many people would participate in it. Secondly, the poll only reflects the forumites and not the "average" DA player. Therefore I would take the results with a grain of salt anyway.
However, a lot of people participated and I think that 406 is a solid number for the BSN. You could vote for two options because some users might have two platforms. I, for example, play on PC and on Xbox 360 and yet I only voted for PC since I am more comfortable on it. On the other hand, a friend of mine played Dragon Age on PC and on Xbox 360. But I see your point and it's a good one. Personally, I think that even though we can't clearly see if it's a fifty/fifty split, the PC gets more love than I had expected.
I wonder if those that said they'd play a dwarf mage miss clicked. As I'm pretty sure that won't be happening.
Why do so few people want to play dwarves, they are my favorite T___T
I'd be more inclined to play one if I could create an entire party of dwarves, same with the other species.

Oh, I know. I played Origins on PC and 360 too. ![]()
I would have phrased the platform question to be "Which platform did you originally play DA on", "Which platform did you play it on the most", or have a separate answer for those of us that played it on two platforms (less desirable). The worst thing you can do for polls is allow people to have two different answers for one question, but I tend to get too picky about polls since I had how to create a good survey drilled into me.
Why dis hate for short people ?
Tyrion Lannister is a badass and he is a dwarf !
I wouldn't necessarily call it hate, that's too strong a word. I admit to not being very keen on playing dwarves in games, but I do so on rare occasions. I just make characters I can relate to or get into enough to enjoy the game and often times it's not dwarves. I wish more people (myself included) are able to leave their comfort zone and make non-mainstream character choices when playing their PC, but end of the day it's just personal preference like anything else and that's fine.
Tyrion Lannister is awesome! One of my favourite characters.
Interesting results.
I voted to play a Female Qunari Mage for first time around and I'm definitely sticking with that plan. It's something new that we've yet to experience and this from someone who exclusively plays Human Male Warrior first in pretty much every game I ever play.
Not sure if other Warrior players are like me, but the lack of Dual Wield puts me off immensely. I've really enjoyed my mage characters in both games, especially DA2 which was the only way to play through that game with a modicum of enjoyment.

Take into account that most people who answered are likely hardcore fans. Newcomers and less enthusiastic players are likely to default to human, and to a lesser extent, warrior.
Personally I didn't answer that question, because I'm not sure about the class yet, but I'll definitely roll a human first. Probably not a mage though.

Looking at everyone from way below gets annoying after a while ![]()
I'm actually going to emerge from the shadows just to comment how I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who picked qunari rogue for first play-through.
My inner hipster-dom is pleased.
K, seeya in October.
If BioWare sees this, it would just cement the idea that the BSN cannot be counted on for feedback.
The majority of Origin players didn't even finish the game. Less than 10% play more than once. Yet 94% of BSNers have 2 or more playthroughs.
We're freakish.
True. We're the hardcore fanbase and I bet if it was including the casual players, numbers would of been different. I know the console percentage would of been at least 50%

Yeah, as I was playing around with the raw data yesterday I was wondering why some people had multiple answers to that question. It looks like you could click one per race instead of just clicking 1 total, like the question suggested. So the numbers that are presented represent all of the answers, not just "the first playthroughs". I'd have no way of knowing which was the "first" from the way it collected data.

There were 9 other hipsters who picked that option too. You guys could start an organic food co-op together!
That's too bad you couldn't use most of the data. I'm not sure why posting these numbers is indicative of anything. How were the 406 that were selected chosen? Any of the information could drastically change based off the missing information. ![]()
So it seems that my Qunari Rogue will be the most uncommon race class combination according to this informal poll.
Somehow that makes me even more happy to tread so far off the beaten path. ![]()

Well, that's kind of how statistics are done. Anytime you see a report of "BLANK% of Americans say that .......", it's just taking self-reported survey data. It's highly questionable to use it outside of just saying, "Huh? This is kind of neat. I wonder why?"
This data only "represents" the self-reported responses from a small sample of BSNers who happened to take the survey. You can't really generalize, but unless we have reason to believe that this particular subset of BSNers are uniquely different than the ones who didn't answer, you could make very vague generalizations for anecdotal purposes.
I'll tell you what, the more I learn about research, the more I realize that all of it is pretty questionable. Except mine, of course! ![]()

Yep, that and Elf Warrior
The sample size is way too small to draw any meaningful conclusions, so I really wouldn't take any of these outcomes to heart. Also there's major selection bias only getting responses from people on the bioware forums.

Nah, the sample size is fine. There are 5000 data points. That's more than enough statistical power for the stuff that we are talking about. The selection bias, on the other hand? Yeah, that's hard to ignore.

I was actually surprised that combat had so many votes. I see a lot of people on BSN that go out of their way to diminish it's value
