Just curious when you play these games do you try out both genders or do you prefer to stick to what you like mainly? Personally as a female player whenever I get the opportunity to play a lead character in a game I take it happily. That's my preference, however I have tried one playthrough as a male warden in DAO, simply to try something different and romance Morrigan. In this new DA I can see later playthroughs testing out different races/romances and genders, just for variety and curiosity as it just looks so much more detailed in this new game and fun.

So how bout you lot, do you prefer to test out the variety of options or do you prefer to stick to what you like mainly?

I don't, but I also don't complain about my "lack of options" since it's on me, however this time? Maybe I'll go crazy...

I'll experiment a bit, sure. I'm female myself but it took me a while to get used to the idea of playing as a female character because games just didn't do that back then. And the female characters we got back in the day could barely qualify as a person, so...

On topic: My 'canon' playthrough will be female, but I will have a few male Inquisitors too.

I play both genders when I pick up a game like this. Since they represent two different characters I have noticed that when I play through the game twice with those characters I get two different ways of playing (One softer one more tough and blunt). Then beyond those two if I like the game enough I'll swap depending on what I feel like, I do tilt more towards male characters, if only for aesthetic appeal.

I am biologically male but dont really identify as either gender.Although if someone would force me to choose one,i would always take female;since Bioware games do exactly that,i roll as a female protagonist every time.^^

I'm straight and male, and I usually alternate between the two whenever gender is an option. I like seeing the differences in how people treat you depending on gender, race, etc, allowing for much replayability.

I also usually choose a female character in my first playthrough in RPGs, but I'm going to choose a male Inquisitor first for Cassandra.

I do, I'm a straight male but I play as both genders in Bioware games. I'm a big yuri genre fan when it comes to anime and manga so I decided to try it in Mass Effect and Dragon Age and I have to say I prefer the female versions of the main heroes, the only one that doesn't have much of a change is The Warden since they are silent but the following are my canon pairings in Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Mass Effect- Fem Shepard x Liara

Mass Effect 2- Fem Shepard x Liara/ Fem Shepard/Kelly Chambers

Mass Effect 3- breaks up with Liara, Fem Shepard x Samantha Traynor

Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening- Female Warden (human) x Leliana

Dragon Age 2- Female Mage Hawke (default look) x Isabela

Dragon Age: Inquisition- Female Inquisitor x Sera

so yes I play both genders and I prefer playing as lesbian females even though I'm a straight male, I just think two girls do romance better.

Straight male, as you probably should remember, Crim.  :P

And I mostly play female characters. Men once or twice, for various reasons. Morrigan was one in Origins.

I am one of those people that likes to play a beautiful character, so I sit in character creator for quite some time to then be in awe of my protagonist beauty for the rest of the game. I am a male, and I usually play males when I can make a good looking one, but in most bioware games it's pretty hard, and usually the voice doesn't match what I have made, so if I don't succeed I play a female instead, and then I usually have no complaints. To me gender means nothing, so it's just a different ''skin''.

I for the most part I stick to playing out the game as a female, but I also branch out to a male if I think I'll get different reactions or a romance interests me. DAO for example I did a pt for Morrigan and for DA2 I did one for Isabella. But I do prefer playing as my own gender overall.

I mostly play males , unless there is a very good reason to play a female, aka Garrus in mass effect 2+3 or Varric should he end up being a romance.

Not really, no. I'll probably just play a guy all the time in Inquisition. I'm a boy, I like boys, and I don't really "role-play." I've never seen the appeal of doing an "evil" playthrough. It sounds miserable and depressing! Playing a woman, less so, but still not something I'll go out of my way to do.

I'm only likely to play a woman if I'm playing a dwarf, because I don't like how male dwarves look. I played a female dwarven commoner in Origins and it was one of the few runs I actually completed. Gave me a good reason to pick Bhelen in that run, and to not care what happens to Orzammar in other playthroughs when I picked Harrowmont (Orzammar suuuuuuuuuuucks). Maybe something like that will happen in Inquisition , but I doubt it. I'm not sure how much race will matter in this game. We'll see.

(I certainly won't be playing a dwarf just for the pleasure of romancing Varric)

I usually play male because that's what I am, but I will play 1 or 2 play throughs as a female. Maybe 4 because the female elf and dwarf are beautiful

DA2 is the only Bioware game I played as a woman. Mostly because I can never get fem Shep or warden to look right.

Edit: Also dat strut.

I generally play a female character as I identify more with my own gender, but I occasionally roll a male character just to see a different perspective.  In DAI I'm sure I will have at least 2 male characters, one for Cass's romance and one for Dorian's romance.

I think I'll just stick with one gender for all my playthroughs of Inquisition

normally i have one or two guys who i may or may not have beat the game with,

or like skyrim I have a male High Elf, Khajiit and Argonian  but that really only effects your looks.

male Hawkes voice was okay but I'm not to sure about the male Inquisitors voices. and to much gender stuff going on, and females can get cool outfits so I think I'll stick with all female this time around.

three classes, two voices, ton of story stuff, four races. I wont really get that bored of it to quickly...i think

I'm a dude, but I play as both. Different genders, different races, different classes, different sexualities.

I like to play good looking characters too, but I've had the opposite problem you've had - I haven't been able to make a good looking female Warden, Hawke, or Shepard, and I haven't liked the female voice options. Because of this all of my protagonists - save one or two half finished runs - have been male.

Never really tried playing as a female before. With Origins I was way into my Canon playthrough since I did both that and Awakening using that Warden and at the time wasn't in the mood to make a new character. With DA2 I was disappointed with it and stopped playing after finishing my first run.

Here I might give it a shot but I might revisit the first two games before its release and do the same.

Female since am female and I can relate plus its cooler since its rare.

Tho with diff races the qunari will be the first time I play as male in any rpg that gave me the choose since I always pick female if I have the choice. Honestly I canot unless the story is or game is awesome, play videogames as a sterotypical male or men. I really would prefer the choice of female or female protag
