I am a straight male but i like to play both genders and explore the full potentials of all PC and the reactions i get from my companions. In origins i usually preferred to play a female mage warden because i loved talking with Sten and trying to explain him that women can fight, and have Morrigan perform the Dark Ritual with Alistair and become his Queen or Mistress (depending on my race & class). While in Da2 i thought that the male PC was much better. I found that his cruelty or sarcasm fitted better to a male Hawke. Also making an attractive male in Da2 was much easier than in Dao, but maybe i was useless in creating a beautiful one in Dao. Now in DaI i am not sure if i start with a male or female human mage. But i will have to decide when the game gets released.

I love that BW is open- minded and can reflect perfectly how real life is in its game and it doesn't show any discrimination against women, gay, bi.

I've noticed in DA2, and ME that the VA for Femshep and Lady Hawke seem to be a bit better than the male counter part. I wonder if this trend will continue.

Hmm, I disagree. Jen Hale and Mark Meer were on about equal standing for me, but I really, really didn't like femHawke's VA. She was way too soft, and I felt that she kept the same tone throughout the whole thing.

Mark Meer got better and better as the ME series progressed. He's a very talented guy and he grew into the role. Jennifer Hale is just consistently excellent. She had a hell of a lot more VA experience to start with.

That's the polar opposite to the way I felt. To me the male VA was one-note and dull whereas the female had a much greater range of expression.

Im a male who mostly plays male characters, but also does some female playthroughs for variety's sake. Im not entirely sure what i'll be playing yet in Inquisition, but to mix things up i think i'd like my canon character to be female this time around :)

Meh. Bolton felt a lot more flexible to me, and IMO fit my sarcastic Hawke preference much more than femHawke did. Scenes like this he completely blew out of the water while femHawke was kinda just...femHawke. It was like she tried to get worked up about it but couldn't quite do it.

All comes down to taste, I guess.

Usually play as a man. try out the females usually just to see how the voice actors are. but end up going back to being a dude. never completed a playthrough of any game as chick.

Definitely taste. You have basically said exactly what I would say but inverted the genders. I adore sarcastic Femhawke.

Pretty much.

I wanted so badly to play f!Hawke because I love her default look and how different the dynamic between her and a romanced Isabela is (versus Izzy and m!Hawke, which I also love), but I'd played so many male Hawkes and was so used to Boulton's voice that I expected Wyatt to be "female Boulton" (which is unfair to both of them).

For the snarky options, my take was basically this... female Hawke has a very droll sense of humor, like "help me lawd jesus I am surrounded by crazy people", whereas male Hawke is incredibly hammy and straight-up admits that he is one of the crazy people. :P

YMMV, of course.

I am a straight female and generally play as a female( even though I may play straight, bi, or gay depending on what I want to accomplish in the play through) I do play as a male when I want a certain result. For example, I played a male, human noble so I could marry Anora and be king of Ferelden.

I also find it easier to play a destructive, evil play through as a male mage. It helps me disassociate myself from decisions I generally wouldn't make. I hate this playthrough as destroying a village will always close off side quests, but I just have to see what happens. :-)

That's a fair assessment. Femhawke is dryly sarcastic, whereas Male Hawke plays it in a pantomime over-the-top manner. Being a Brit I very much favour dry sarcasm. For this reason Male Hawke just seemed like an actor acting, whereas I believed Femhawke.

Female here, and I play whatever I feel like playing at the time. About half my Wardens were female and half were male, however most of my Hawkes were male just because I preferred the male VA.

There'll probably be no such bias in my DAI playthroughs, seeing as I'll probably like at least one VA per gender.

I would say I enjoy my male character playthroughs in most games slightly more, though. Probably because I'm uber shallow and like creating eye candy. Ahem.

I'm male and only play male characters. As someone said, if I'm going to be staring at a character's butt for hundreds of hours, I'd rather it be one I want to see. :)

AND I only romance male companions (of course). My poor Shepard is currently celibate in ME 1, and will be so until 3.

My warden and Hawke, however, were to engage in that wonderful past time.

Straight male, always play female characters in these type of games for as long as I can remember . Even if there wasn't romances I find playing male characters so boring and end up not finishing my playthrough with him

I always play both and depending on the game I usually end up prefering one over the other. DA:O is the only game where I liked both genders equally.

The majority of my play throughs are female, like me.

But I at the very least always do one male play through, if I do more than one depends on if I can stand the voice acting (sorry broShep your voicing really isn't working for me) and if I feel I can get a good looking male character out of the CC (I struggled with DA:O for males until I installed mods)

I usually wind up playing females because that's what I identify with more, but I always try a male or two just to see if one catches my fancy. I did happen to have one or two male PCs in my MMO stable. One them was even one of my two most often played alts (never exactly had a main). So, it does sometimes happen that I get into a male PC frame of mind.

My husband, on the other hand, plays almost a perfect 50/50 on his.

Hetro-male who tends to play mostly female protagonists, one reason, if I'm going to be looking at the rear end of a character for 200+ hours I would prefer it to be pleasing to the eye. It does however limit romance options, Liliana in Origins, no one in ME2 :(

Necromancer, this thread was dead. :bandit:  :P

While my main/canon/1st pc's in DA are always Human Male(except DA2) warriors, alot of my pc's are female. However that looks like its about to change simply because the british female voice sounds lame. It sounds like shes trying to hard, her voice is too soft and doesnt sound authoritative. Banking all my hopes on Sumalee for my female Elf and Qunari(after the hopeful hair dlc of course), but after Nyreen in ME3 im not worried.

I WAS going to play as a female Qunari and force some Snu Snu on Blackwall but after gouging both my eyes out from seeing the hair selection, I think this I'm going to roll male only this time around.

For the record though, I had tons of fun with FemHawke in DA 2.  She was so...perfect.

I will play either gender. I do not have any concepts about which gender must be played. I do, however, develop preferences for certain backgrounds or voices during the course of a game. In Origins, I preferred the male human noble, and in DAII I preferred female Hawke; I will have to spend some time with Inquisition before I develop any preferences.

I usually like playing as females, but generally males in Bioware games. I was really dead set on romancing Cullen as a guy, and it just wouldn't feel right to play a female to romance him, just gonna make it really bitter. I'll probably romance IronBull as another qunari male mage for the first playthrough and a male human warrior with Cassandra. The romance option for females is just not attractive enough for me to play as a woman, I wouldn't be able to finish it anyway.

Cool thread topic Crim. I'm a straight male and as I've stated in other threads I've played characters of different genders, races, and sexual orientations in previous RPGs. Plan on doing the same in DAI, so many possible playthroughs to experience.

Pansexual female married to a bisexual male. We both play both genders but he prefers playing males, he has 10 gameplay's planned and only one is a female. I have 12 planned and it ended up being an even 6-6.
