I am a male. I usually go for male human for canon (because this is what I can most relate to). But I do play female chars as well. My second playthrough is always female char.

I almost always play male. I don't know why, but all the types of characters I'm interested in playing are male. The sexuality depends on the character and LI choices. Right now I'm doing a female human noble warrior in DAO tom do a Alistair romance for the first time and I'm enjoying it.

I mostly play as males, unless there is a romance option available only to females that really interests me.

I prefer to play Dragon Age games as a male whereas for Mass Effect I played as FemShep and will likely continue to play as a female character. For 'Inquisition' I will play male again like 'Origins' and 'DAII', if DA4 (should it ever happen) is promoted as a conclusive title to the particular tale or 'Age' then I'll play male again, if not then I may play female in the next title before it all ends.

I play both, though I slightly prefer to play a female. I have more female characters than male. My characters are not me or extensions of me; they are characters that I roleplay so I have no aversion to roleplaying a male character.

I generally play as both genders. However, in DA2, I couldn't stand Fem!Hawke's voice, so all my Hawkes ended up as male. In DA:I, I'll be playing both genders. I'm especially excited about a lady Cadash.

I am biologically male but dont really identify as either gender.Although if someone would force me to choose one,i would always take female;since Bioware games do exactly that,i roll as a female protagonist every time.^^
Woo woo, hello there, you sound like me, except I'm biologically female! Cool to meet others who feel the same way. To answer the OP question, I play both genders, usually male first, especially if m/m romance is available. But my third and fourth playthroughs are happily f/f, and I plan to do the same thing for DAI ![]()

9 times out of 10 I play my own gender but I do a lot of playthroughs so I'll usually get at least one male playthrough.

If a game is good enough for me to play through several times, I'll eventually play a male. But first time through, I almost always play a female.
The only time I ever started with a male character was ME2. Tali was well worth breaking my habits for.

I almost always play as a male character, the only time I played as a female was for the City Elf in DAO. It was clearly the better story than the male counterpart.
I find going outside of my gender makes the character too distant for me and takes me out of the Role Play aspect because that's not me... I'm not a pretty girl ![]()

I play all genders, all races and all classes in each Bioware game.

Gay male here. I tend to play male characters all the time, I don't know why but I cannot get into a female character. in ME series, I tried to stard a trilogy run with a femshep, but I couldn't even finish ME 1. On Origins 90% of my wardens were male...but there was only 1 exception: A female city elf rogue warden. Yeah, with that character I did two things I never do: playing as elf, and playing as a female. On DA II, I tried to finish with a female hawke...but didn't make it. so all my hawkes ended as male.
And for inquisition, I don't have planned a female run...unless blackwall ends as a straight Li, that could be the only reason I would try to roll a female quizzy.

Yep I play both genders.
I stick to humans and elves mostly. Gonna stick to humans and Qunari this game.

I tend to stick with male characters, especially in recent times, every female I make now tends to get shelved really early now. Started with Mass Effect 3 when I could not import one of my female Shepard's without her looking downright horrible, I eventually got one that looked alright to romance Traynor but went back to males on subsequent playthroughs, since Traynor was the only option for females that I was interested in, while males had much more.
Even going back to Origins, I can't get a good female to come through, and it's not just me sucking with the CC either, I see screenshots of other players and their female characters and I think most look bad. Males are so easy, I just slap a beard on them and don't have to worry about tweaking the small things, the beard covers all.
Dragon Age 2 on the other hand, I love her voice, and I like the default female with the blood smear so I have a few female Hawke's laying around, I also love the sister relationship with Bethany.
In Inquisition I have plans for one female only if Varric is available, if he isn't I probably won't bother with one since I have no interest in romancing Sera or any of the male companions(other than Varric)

My first playthrough will be a 2 handed dps warrior romancing Cassandra.
Second playthrough will vary depending on the last love interests. If Varric is a love interest, then I'll go with a rogue female dwarf.
In the third playthrough (or second if Varric is not a love interest), I'm going with a female Qunari mage who is going to romance Iron Bull.
My fourth playthrough will probably be a human female that will romance Cullen. Which class I'll play is undecided on this one at this point but it'll probably be my favorite class at that point. But if Varric is not a love interest then it'll be a rogue so I'll have played all 3 classes.
My fifth playthrough will be another male character of my favorite class but it'll be Vivienne or Scribbles as the love interest.

I play RPGs for the RP so, yeah, I play both genders. Comes from wanting to be a writer/actor as a kid. I do play more female characters though.

I play as both, pretty much evenly. When the character is voiced, how much I like said voice affects my decision. For example, while I do have multible femHawke playthroughs, I really avoided playing as her until later playthroughs because I really didn't like her voice (while I loved mHawke's). In Dragon Age Origins voice wasn't a problem obviously, so it was just what I felt like playing at the time. I plan on playing male first for Dorian, and then probably female to romance Cullen (that will instantly change if Blackwall is a romance).

I play both. However, I'll admit I tend to stick to my own gender more often (male). For example;
Inquisition Planned Playthroughs Ratio (male to female) 6:5
Dragon Age 2- 5:3
Dragon Age Origins- 6:5
Mass Effect (all of them) 5:1

So far my Warden has been female and Hawke male. So yes, I don't really have a preference, I just go with whatever I feel like.

Yes I do play both genders and feel comfortable in both roles. Though the choice of voice actors sometimes effect my desired character, from what I've heard of the inquisitors it seems both genders have excellent actors. Good times!

I'll admit I feel a little more immersed in my story when I'm playing my own gender, a female. Also, aside from BioWare games, very few games I enjoy ever give me the option, so I gobble it up and take full advantage of it. I usually play a male eventually, and this time I easily see myself making one for a Dorian romance later on.
