I'll try different races but gender? No.
It feels wrong.
Do you play both?

I'm leaning more towards a Cassandra romance in DA:I so i might break the cycle i have going with DA:O/DA2 and play as a male Inquisitor first. That might change though if i see more of Sera.

I'm female, most of my playthroughs are with a female character.
But I rolled a male warden in Origins in my third playthrough, just to see how things would change, and this time I'll roll another guy for Dorian at some point. No problems with playing different gender - since many games don't give you the choice and you get used to it - although I prefer to play as a female.

I can only relate to straight males. Anything else would feel 'fake'.
The only variation is race.

However, in this game I plan to make an exception by rolling one Dude!Quisitor PT just for Cass

I've played both, but I settled on canon male warden, fem hawke. Now male Inquisitor. If only to offer variety in my worldstate. I think it'd be lame if they were all male or all female. If my gameplay was a book series, that would make for a stupid narrative.

I usually start off playing as a female, then my other playthroughs will vary.
I've had several male characters that I've enjoyed more than my females, so I don't waste time thinking, " well, I'm not actually a man".
That would be ridiculous.

Generally yeah. I'm male and my first and/or personal canon playthrough is usually male. But in any game that lets you choose I switch back and forth if I do multiple playthroughs.

For Inquisition, I'll play around with different combos, but my goal is to canonize an Adaar or a Cadash, unless the other playthroughs are very compelling. I'd be willing to canonize a female Lavellan if crazy stuff goes down with Solas, for example. I'm still suspicious that Solas has ties to... whatever it is that Felassan is mixed up in.
Since the gender ratio is even, my canon Inquisitor can be male or female. I'll try both.

I'm a straight male but I'm happy playing either gender. I did both in Origins and actually prefer playing as a woman in DA2 due to the fact that I far prefer the female VA. I'm not personally too interested in playing a gay male romance, but am very happy that they're there. I love the inclusivity of this series.

I certainly do.
Plus, I am male, but I generally prefer my female characters. I just find women more interesting.

Nope, males only.

For many years girls and women were forced to play male characters in computer games - cause they were the only available ones. And when there were female characters they were usually oversexuallised (anyone remembers the original Lara Croft and her huge boobs that would give a normal woman a terrible backache?)
So now when we have a choice to play normal female characters I always play as woman, making up for all these years.

I'll play both Genders.I play both FemHawke and Femshep more over the male counterparts because I like voice acting better.

Why play as a man when I can play as a woman.

I like to play both because I enjoy roleplaying and stepping into the shoes of somebody different from myself.

I play both.
There are games I play both equally and there are some I actually prefer one gender over the other.
I played more female Wardens and Hawkes, but more male Bhaalspawns and Heroes of Neverwinter, for example.
I think I have equal amount of male and female Shepards...
Generally, it depends who has the better romance arc, who looks better in CC and just what I am feeling like roleplaying in the moment.)

^ This. So much this. I don't ever play as male when given the choice. I've tried to play as male warden in Origins, but that playthrough ended in 1 hour.

Just curious when you play these games do you try out both genders or do you prefer to stick to what you like mainly? Personally as a female player whenever I get the opportunity to play a lead character in a game I take it happily. That's my preference, however I have tried one playthrough as a male warden in DAO, simply to try something different and romance Morrigan. In this new DA I can see later playthroughs testing out different races/romances and genders, just for variety and curiosity as it just looks so much more detailed in this new game and fun.
So how bout you lot, do you prefer to test out the variety of options or do you prefer to stick to what you like mainly?
I generally stick to males and I only pick females if there is a special circumstance to their story like the city elf origin.

I'll use both genders in Inquisition at some point, but it won't be for romance reasons.
