Epic 3-month Bump.

I generally play only male characters, however what has turned me more towards a 50/50 split (and in some cases, more female characters) is either a good creation tool or voice acting.

For Mass Effect, I found it so difficult to make a "decent looking" female character with how limited the CC was.  Once I was able to find someone who I thought fit the character and voice actor (Jennifer Hale in this case) then I rolled a female character (my only one in fact).

For Dragon Age: Origins, I felt the CC was much better, with additional mods, and could create a good female character.  Dragon Age 2 was far easier (and Jo Wyatt to boot) to play as a female character.

For SWTOR, I actually play exclusively female characters because the voice acting is SO MUCH better than the male counterparts (even Nolan North - Jedi Consular feels so very flat).

I prefer playing as male characters, but have no problem with anyone (or myself for that matter) playing as opposite genders.

I do play both, but I tend to stick with male characters for my "canon" games, though I may mix things up in Inquisition. It really depends on how much I end up liking the Female Qunari and Male Dwarf options.

I've noticed in DA2, and ME that the VA for Femshep and Lady Hawke seem to be a bit better than the male counter part. I wonder if this trend will continue.

I fully expect it to.

Seems like it's a BioWare thing; they tend to choose better female VA's.

As a straight female, I tend to play characters that are straight females.

Unless I fall totally in love with the male default character design *cough*  ShepLoo and Garrett *cough* in which case I'll play them through numerous times.

Dorian is rather hot and very interesting, though, so I may branch into something new just for him.

I usually like to go balls out and play any gender or character race when I get a wave of inspiration into what I envision my new character to be and how I would play him or her. But how often I do so depends on how much free time I have and there is only so much on can milk out of a game even with a different character before I get tired of it.

I tend to play both sexes equally. i do think the female roles sometime come off more genuine. Like Femshep who in my opinion fit the story much better and was so much more of a bad ***.

But i am male but a lot of times i think a female lead is better, but this time i'm being a male character because i gotta have that cass love.

I explore my options to the fullest. So yes, I'll be hitting both parts of the Gender Binary come 11/18

I love both Femshep and Cass for the sole reason of I love women who can kick my  ***.

The last time I played a male char in a game that gives me a choice was, I guess in Baldurs Gate (1) ... as I see it, (interesting) female heroines are so under-represented in books, movies and games I take every chance to rectify this...

And it's scieentifically proven that Femshep kicked Maleshep into oblivion in terms of badassness, and I hope for the same for my Femquizzy (is that the  the official term, btw?)

It depends.

For me both was so awful I couldn't even bear to hear them talk at all, while males was absolutely ok.

Mark Meer was excellent in ME3 to me. It seems he gained the emotion that the female VA(I feel bad for forgetting her name) lost. I genuinely liked Lady Hawke's voice in everything but I liked Lord Hawke's better.

I usually play a female since I am one.  I don't mind playing a male MC when it's required in games (ex. Shadow of Mordor, Persona 3 & 4, ect.).  When I'm given the choice, however, I mainly go female for all my playthroughs.  But, perhaps I'll break the norm and try out a male Inquisitor in the future.

In KotOR, DAO, DA2 and ME, I played male protagonists. for DAI I'm planning on playing four main runs, two male and two female. I want to go through each race, and I figure while I'm at it I might as well get some gender variety in there, too.

Also, because some interesting potential romances (Solas, Blackwall), are gated for gender. My overarching plan is to see both the friendship and romance arcs for basically everyone (barring a couple characters who just annoy me).

Yes, Mark Meer got loads better with each game of ME.  And the VA for femShep is Jennifer Hale.  I love her voice work.

For Hawke, I liked both voices.  Each had their own take on the character.

My first playthrough is always female. After that I'll switch between the two, though there aren't many games where I can do that.

Origins was amazing to play as both genders, for me. My canon state surprisingly has gone from female Cousland Warden to male Amell.

And I couldn't keep from playing male Hawke several times in DA2... too awesome. :)

Given my tendency to play through every class, every race, every origin, and every romance, it is inevitable that I play the opposite gender... especially now that there are way too many romance options than i know what to do with.

That depends if there is gender exclusive content.

If there is I'll eventually run both.

If there isn't I'll go for the one that has the more enjoyable VA.

Not really, but I am all set to play as a human female necromancer this time for a change of pace.  Should be fun!  ^_^

Oh, and since there are two voices per gender, I might come up with another female to have 1 char for each VA.  She could be any of the other 3 races though... but probably not an elf since I'll have already seen that background play out.

I absolutely play as both genders and lots of race/class combinations. I like to replay Bioware games a lot...

Depends on if I like the female only love interests. My warden is female with Ali. However, my Hawke and Inquisitors are male.

Romances are gender exclusive so that counts.

Romances aren't really that significant to a lot of people.

Still counts as content though, just saying.
