Seriously though, OP there is already a Cullen discussion thread and we are open to alternative viewpoints. If you have something you'd like to discuss with us, we'll happily discuss with you. If you just want to stir up the Cullen hate, you're not the first and you won't be the last. I think we'll survive.

Cullen transcends time fandom itself and becomes the most talked about character by fans and haters alike. 

 

Here are two threads about thinking he's not right/disliking him/wondering why he has so many fans. (Mostly) Lots of good arguments back and forth in both.

I'm not a Cullenite, but I'm not a Cullen hater, either. So coming from a pretty neutral standpoint... I can't see a good future for this thread. A thread based on solely bashing an extremely well loved character? (and kind of bashing his fan-base by calling them the "he's hot" crowd and a circle-jerk?)  This is my one post in here. *flees*

You know it's quite ironic the replies I've gotten in here considering I opted to make this thread as to not offend people who like the character. Maybe I wasn't clear enough what the purpose of this thread was; basically, the love for Cullen is absolutely obnoxious and--in my opinion--unwarrented, so I thought it was be a nice idea to have a thread where people who agreed with me could come and state our distaste in the character, just as the other thread serves as a swoon/circlejerk thread.

 

Didn't mean to seem intolerant of your intolerance, only thought you might find like-minded people in those threads.

 

It's one thing to start a discussion about how you dislike a character, and another to imply not very nice things about that character's fans. Of course they're going to feel the need to defend themselves (and their character). If you're polite to them, I do believe they'll be respectful of your dissent. If you aren't, well, honestly the thread will probably get locked pretty quick.

Firstly you have yet to give a reason (or a factual basis) for your opinions therefore no-one is currently capable of agreeing or disagreeing properly.

Secondly the Cullen thread is for all viewpoints but you are absolutely correct, it is a positive place full of his fans because generally the people who dislike him don't want to spend their time on him and would rather concentrate on admiring their own preferred characters. Many of us understand why people dislike him, but we like the fact that he is a polarising character who grows as a person without the help of the PC. We think his story arc has a lot of options in DAI. Others will disagree, or hate him for DA2, or assume we only like him because he's pretty and flirts with the mage in DA:O, and that's OK- everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I do think it's a bit of a shame, however that we seem to be such an easy target for dislike.

There are a couple of other threads --as members have stated above-- that are about peoples distate for him. We actually have some pretty good debates in them.

I don't really care much about Cullen, dude's been meh so far. But I really don't get the point of this thread, I thought it was generally accepted that the most obnoxious and rightfully hated parts of any fangroup were the folks who whine that other people like something they don't like? I mean dude it's not that hard to stay out of the Cullen thread if you don't like him, I think I've only looked in it like 3 times ever.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other to be completely honest.

He's always just been a...background NPC to me more than anything else.

Opinions don't actually have to be justified at all.

Perhaps not, but it would help people to understand why you feel the way you do. You could hate us because we're heathen, baby eating animals (only on Tuesdays, I'm on a diet ) or because you think we're OTT, or because you don't like the Cullen epilogues from DA:O but unless you state why, nobody knows if they agree or not.

I like Cullen but I'm not blind to his faults. His faults are one of the reasons I do like him -- makes him seem more human. No one is perfect, least of all him.
