For now games look more like a slasher than RPG, anyone can tell me will we have tactical fights including skills with stances like freeze/sleep etc?. Also game world looks very linear and I have not seen many or any optional quests that are actually interesting.

I did not watched many gameplays couse I always want to see as few as I can before game release so maybe anyone will answer these questions.

Could not find answers here couse big part of threads is about romances or DLC's. As far as I can see DA inquisition have very casual community which means game possibly will not be for me:)

I'm not sure 'casual' is the right word for people who are into the romances and DLC ... but moving right along.

I think your concern that the game will be too linear is probably unnecessary. This game is going to be bigger than previous instalments, and we've been told that there are not only lots of side-quests but you can spend hours just exploring the environments, crafting, etc. DAO was't a linear game, and I don't think this will be either. (We could have a debate about whether DA2 was linear or not, but let's not and say we did.)

As for the combat - we've seen freezing in game, and there's certainly crowd control in there. The zoomed-out tactical camera is also making a return to PC and is going to be on consoles for the first time. However, most of the combat we've seen so far has been played in god mode, so it's hard to get a feel for how tough and tactical it will actually be.

Well maybe you should watch more gameplay footage to rid yourself of your misinformed concepts of what DAI is or what it's not.

very casual community

I don`t think that word means what you think it means :)

You can see that mosnters can be frozen in the gameplay videos, and sleep was in the previous games, so one can guess it may return in DA:I. There always were optional\side quests in DA games, plus one of the devs said in an interview that there are tons of optional content - quests\areas\dragons.

Maybe you can give more examples of what RPG means to you and people can give you more info if that stuff in the game/probably will be in the game.

Slasher?

OTS ARPGs are still just that, RPGs.

Yes. There are apparently over 200 skills/abilities.

Also game world looks very linear and I have not seen many or any optional quests that are actually interesting.

The world has big open regions that you can return to at any time and explore. It's much bigger than previous DA games.

So you haven't watched any gameplay, but you know that the optional quests are boring and the world is linear? lelwut...

Since you've come to me instead wasting time on those silly gameplay videos Bioware thoughtlessly put out (and have thus decided to trust me over your lying eyes, which is greatly appreciated) I will not steer you wrong!

The game is a Third person Action-RPG like Kingdom Hearts. To be fair you can switch classes (and their linked abilities/armor/weapons) on the fly during combat. This is explained in game since the Inquisitor is linked to fade tears, he is using a personal fade rift to quickly swap gear, which has all his class abilities linked to it. So gaining Exp in this world and upgrading various skills is the Inquisitor 'gaining familiarity' with the various tools of his trade. Bioware has explained that you have enough exp to master One main class and one specialization...or you can spread it out a bit to give you more combat options, your choice.

Now side-quests are kind of neat, as at certain points in the game (and depending on who you bring) they can be solved in multiple ways. For example, Cole might be more useful on one set of side-quests that involve delivering presents (in secret) to children orphaned in the war. While another might involve you, Josephine and/or Viv organizing a state ball to convince various Orelisian Nobels to throw their support behind the Inquisiton. There are of course the usual comabt side-quests like breaking up a Tevinter Slave ring with Dorian's help, or just taking some new recruits on a training excerise with Blackwall. Each of these Quest will adjust the world state in varrying ways. The Cole one could cause the creation of a 'Santa Claus' type myth in Thedas for one.

Well there is a lot more but I won't waste this threads time, if you want I can PM you more details. (/sarcasm)

If Bioware would release a gameplay demo that didn't include more spoilers than a fridge with the power out, this might be more feasible to some people.

Maybe if people bothered to watch the first part of the E3 demo, we woundn't have those ridiculous threads wondering if DAI is linear (seriously wut)

Getting into the definition of what an RPG is basically is the forum equivalent of throwing a rocket propelled grenade into a thread, honestly.

How do you measure how much of an RPG something is? By the gallon? Or do you take a stopwatch and determine how much of each action you do is an RPG and total things up that way?

I can't help but wonder out of the 200+ skills and abilities how many of those are just upgrades for existing skills, like how they did in DA2 when a skill have 2 additional evolutions. i fear we might only have 23 skills and just be unlocking different add-ons for them.

The first thing you must do original poster is to tell us in detail what you consider and rpg to be then proper answers can be given.  There are about a dozen 'iron clad' definitions of what an rpg is.  Without your detailed definition you will not get the answers you seek.

Estimate range from 55%-60% RPG and 45%-40% EZ-Bake oven.

The cartoonish combat is what causes concern to me. Too fast, too flashy and too overpowered. That ironbull character kind of reveals the game actually. Nothing like the qunari in DA2. Has a tiny head with horns like tree branches, body like golem and face... well something. That kind of character build tends to tilt towards the Awesome Button™ all over again. So the kids might enjoy it.

Kind of like how the Qunari in DA2 looked nothing like the Qunari from DAO?

That was actually probably the only good thing DA2 had over DAO. And now it is ruined.

I believe there is still a DA2 section if you just want to continue to ****** and moan about that game. At least the tired RPG jokes were relevant to the thread.

Going by this forum? You assume anything you disliked (From the entire game down to just entering the characters name) was not a true RPG/True RPG element.
