If Bioware would release a gameplay demo that didn't include more spoilers than a fridge with the power out, this might be more feasible to some people.

Please, please, please, please, please.

Please, Bioware. PLEASE. I do not need to know anymore about the freaking main antagonist. We shouldn't even know there is one.

And? Other then DA2 and Jade Empire (which I never got far into) I cant think of a BioWare game or any game there was no big bad.

Who is it? Why are they doing it? What is the goal? How can you deal with them?

Can you tell me right now you the big bad is and what their motives are with 100% confidence you are correct? I cant so I doubt you can.

With the level many of us go over ever bit of information released how can there not be some spoilers?

@OP,

How much of an RPG do you want it to be? Skyrim is an rpg. Fable is an rpg. Gothic is an rpg. Dragon's Dogma is an rpg. DAO is an rpg. Shadowruns Returns is an rpg. Avernum is an rpg. Baldur's Gate is an rpg. Mass Effect is an rpg. Kingdoms of Amalur is an rpg. Eschalon is an rpg. Might & Magic X is an rpg. NetHack is an rpg. Sword of the Stars is an rpg. Final Fantasy is an rpg. Ultima is an rpg. Wizardry is an rpg. Temple of Elemental Evil is an rpg. Pool of Radiance: Myth Drannor is an rpg. Lengend is an rpg. IceWind Dale is an rpg. Neverwinter Nights is an rpg. Arx Fatalis is an rpg. All the Gold box games are rpgs.  So where on the rpg continuum are you talking about?

They could deliberately not give us that information. They should never have. They should have stopped at, "a series of unfortunate events have occured, and you have to figure out how they tie together."

Jade Empire actually did have a big bad.

Both DA ][ and ME3 did not have a big bad (yes, yes, "star child," "vent boy," blah blah blah).

Additionally, NOT broadcasting a big bad dramatically improves the effect of the story--I was spoiled about two days before I got to "that part" of KotOR, and I really, really wish I hadn't been.

There are very few crpgs that do not have a big bad as the final villian. Ultima IV is one of the few that comes to mind.

Actually DA2 had two big bads that represented the mage/templar conflict, The Reapers were the big bad thru the whole Mass Effect series.

I don't really agree that Meredith or Orsino qualified for a "big bad" in the typical sense. Neither is opposing the protagonist. They're simply going about their business, and Hawke can get involved. it's only in the final battle that you can decide to oppose them, rather than a game-long sense of opposition.

I think DA ][ is a unique case because the plot is simply the story of Hawke, rather than "stopping the Blight." There is no intrinsic antagonist to Hawke.

Same for ME3. Not sure if you played or not, but you don't even really fight the Reapers in the end, you just get the chance to agree with them or disagree. They're essentially powerless in the ending.

I have played all three Mass Effects. The manipulation of the Reapers begins in Mass Effect 1 with Sovereign. Mass Effect 2 sees Shepards battling the Collectors who are abducting human colonies to help the Reapers return to the Milky Way. The third game centers on the battle against the Reapers. The Reapers are the Big Bad throughout the series.

I disagree about Meredith and Orisino. They qualify as big bads. The only difference is if Hawke sides with the templars Meredith helps with the fight with Orisino and then turns on Hawke. Hawke still has to fight both. There is no other way to the end of the game. We will have to agree to disagree.

I suppose. I'm not so much talking about the big bad in terms of gameplay, but as a plot concept. But fair enough, we disagree.

Every game is an RPG. You play a Role in every game. You play Mario in Super Mario, you play Master Chief in HALO, you play Lara in Tomb Raider...RPGS for everyone!

So DAI has been spoiled. Please spoil it for me and tell me who the big bad is and what their motivations are.

Can you? Or have you been given some names of locations, groups and characters and blowing it all out of proportion?

The first question is most important to me.

I watch anything with the sound off and immediately turn off the video if there is even a hint of a character appearing or dialogue. That is the best way to reduce spoilers while still seeing what the gameplay looks like before purchase.

I have no idea what the PC sounds like, where most of the game is happening (aside from jumbles from Spoiler titles).

I consider a role playing game to be a game where I get to roleplay such as through choices, dialogue, story, quests, and romances. I do not factor style of combat in to this definition in any way so I'd say DA:I is %100 RPG. Either way you get your tactical combat if you choose to use it.

Well, there were times where Laidlaw said specific gameplay things that I needed to know. One I recall specifically--in a Gamespot interview at E3, during an overlay of the demo (with the female Qunari, the first half), Laidlaw said that you could play (as in, time passes) the game in "tactical mode."

This is/was a critical, critical piece of information because it's something that I had noticed them not saying before. Previously, all of their statements--and all of the gameplay--was about the game pausing when you went into "tactical mode" (I hate that name, makes it sound like some gimmick), and unpausing when you dropped out of "tactical mode." This is something I was genuinely worried about, and felt I really needed an answer to.

I do appreciate what you're saying, and I think I'll start trying it out. But still, there are things I need to see/hear (the reaction wheel being one of them) that will require some audio input, and I have the danger of being spoiled in yet another area (like in the fight with an-antagonist-we-already-now-know-by-name-who-names-another-antagonist).

Now see, this is where I go on my rant about choices being the key element. But I won't. I won't!

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying this is good. I'm just saying it's the only way I've found to eve watch a demo.

Alright. Thanks for the tip.

Edit: Though from what I'm hearing in the other thread, my information may be flawed...but we'll see. We'll see.

Rocket-propelled grenade!

That's a backronym, actually. It's an abbreviation of the Russian "ruchnoy protivotankovy granatomyot", which means hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher.
