I see no reason why the human Inquisitor being from Fereldan or anywhere else is someow "boring".

Hawke may have been born in Ferelden, but all we see of it in DA2 is the escape from Lothering.  We have the option to let Hawke embrace Kirkwall as a new home.  Or can miss the old homeland and want to return someday.

So, yeah, not seeing why the Inquisitor is a marcher is a good or bad thing.  It's just a thing.

I'm tired of the barely literated backwater hero showing up those snotty self-proclaimed superior cultures trope that is popular in media sometimes.

I would of liked being a hero from Tevinter, coming from a hated nation, and saving the world, possibly leading, by example, a change in Tevinter, and giving mages a peaceful nation to call home.

Maybe you come from the Wilds, lol.  A Chasind.

That last one was a joke.

Blood magic is still morally ambiguous, not just pure evil.

Oh thank god.So Bioware hasnt ruined it after all.Now i can finally engage in full hype-mode again. :)

And the Tevinter news makes it even more sympathetic to me.Now all it needs to do is abolish(or at the very least severely dial back on)slavery and i can finally 100% support it.^^

"In Nevarra, for each person who dies, a spirit is invited into their body. This maintains a 'balance' between life and death. In older cemeteries, there are undead just wandering around."

For the love of the Maker, are the nevarrans trying to create a zombie apocalypse?

Just imagine how effective that would be against darkspawn.

I'm neutral about the human noble being a Marcher, I'm just curious about where in the Marches they hail from.  I'm actually half hoping they're from Kirkwall.  It creates a certain continuity between games, sort of like how Hawke was from Lothering...  Though the more I think about it, it could be Starkhaven.

Consider, whichever side of the Mage-Templar War Sebastian decided to bring his city in on, he could send a noble envoy to this peace summit in support of his favored faction, thus explaining their presence.

Has anyone, at any point in time, answered the question "What is your favorite country in Dragon Age?" with "the Free Marches"?

Dragon Age 4: The Necroplis Rises

I don't think we'll have to wait for a new game, it sounds like a setup for a DLC mission.  Dragon Age Inquisition: Necropolis, not even joking here  I mean there has to be some reason they decided to throw out all this Nevarran lore ever since The World of Thedas.

Cassandra-centric DLC or expansion. I approve.

Overall great interview. Especially the part about Tevinter.

I like that Gaider says the diference between Red and Blue Lyrium is like Green Kryptonite and Red Kryptonite XD

Ansburg, Tantervale, Ostwick ... there is still a lot of lore to explore in the Free Marches.

Hawke is marked as Fereldan throughout DA2. It matters at the start of the game because it explains his refugee status and the desperation in going on the Expedition - people do not hire even capable Fereldans to do very much. It matters to the meta-plot because Cass suspects that Anders' plot was actually a plot that was hatched in Ferelden. And it carries throughout the Kirkwall narrative because Hawke is always cast as the Outsider.

Fereldan is also known as a backwater, and there are tensions with Orlais. Being a marcher means that you bring a whole new perspective and position to the table vis-a-vis Orlais and Ferelden - you're an outsider in both.

I think we have that both with the Qunari and the Dalish (though arguably more with the Qunari, because I even other Qunari would not appreciate you). The Dalish would at least be tolerated among CEs and respect among their own people. But a Qunari is the most isolated, at least IMO based on what we know.

Yes, but I'm not sure making the protagonist from those places (And have them told all about a place they should already know well) is the best way to go about that.

Wycome is said to be the revelry capital of Thedas and the greatest importer of Antivan wine despite its population being only a third of Val-Royeax.

So, if we must be a Marcher, let us be from there, please.

I guess Free Marches is good because it's easy to justify a wise variety of ethnicities of PC - it's supposed to be a meeting place of cultures.  But DA2 conspicuously failed to give them any sort of character.

So, will we be an orlesian in Nevarra in DA4? That seems to be the logical progress, no?

Ah, but DAI is going to take place in Ferelden and Orlais, a Marcher Inquisitor will be an outsider too.  Both in nationality and due to the Glowing Green Hand of Salvation.

For that matter, DAO the player could be a dwarf or Dalish, outsiders in Ferelden society as well as being a Grey Warden, which puts you outside any society outside the Anderfels.

And really, I didn't see much evidence of Ferelden being particularly backwater.  I find it likely propaganda; the result of Orlesian arrogance over their conquered territory.

Well Gaider mentionned they wrote lots of Codex pages so I guess we will have to go with that. Unless each background has a sort of temporary sidekick at the begining of the game to explain where you came from.
