shall we start taking bets on what city in the freemarches trev inquisitor is from?

I'm guessing not Starkhaven and not Kirkwall. Maybe Ostwick or Tantervale, since they were (I believe) originally going to feature in the DA2 expansion pack.

If it's true that every city in the Marches has a unique-ish cultural influence or accent, then Starkhaven would sound more Scottish and Kirkwall might be closer to the southern accents of Ferelden.

The Inquisitor's surname is Cornish, and the maleQuisitor's accent (I haven't heard Alix clearly enough to guess the femQuisitor) definitely sounds Welsh or Cornish.

Did she ask about Solas' scar/character model?

I have a bad migraine today, so watching or more, listening to the video is beyond me atm...*sitting here with sunglasses on*

Ah, but DAI is going to take place in Ferelden and Orlais, a Marcher Inquisitor will be an outsider too.  Both in nationality and due to the Glowing Green Hand of Salvation.

For that matter, DAO the player could be a dwarf or Dalish, outsiders in Ferelden society as well as being a Grey Warden, which puts you outside any society outside the Anderfels.

And really, I didn't see much evidence of Ferelden being particularly backwater.  I find it likely propaganda; the result of Orlesian arrogance over their conquered territory.

Sorry, I should have been clearer: I didn't mean to argue a Fereldan is boring, just that being Fereldan did matter a lot to DA2. Apologies. :)

As for Fereldan being a backwater, we have a lot we can point to as proof. Firstly, we have the hovel-like villages that seem to dominate the country, even accounting for Denerim. We have the fact that every outsider seems to agree that it's unsophisticated and less grand compared to their place of origin - whether that's Orlais, Antiva or Seheron/Par Vollen.

We have the very salt-of-the-earth attitude that comes with living on a frontier that we see exhibited/extolled by a number of characters.

I doubt the villages in Orlais are very nice.  Probably worse than Fereldan, given the greater inequality.  Though they might have a nice villa nearby.

Eh, poor peasant farming villages probably aren't terribly different wherever you go in Thedas.

But Redcliffe (like Highever) is meant to be the equivalent of an Orlesian city like Montsimmard or Hamishral, whereas Denerim is the Val Royeaux counterpart. This is why I see it as a step down.

I'm sure Orlais has plenty of impoverished backwaters; it's just that those places in Ferelden are far more prominent in the hierarchy.

Kinda on-topic, just a language note for DG :D

It isn't 'Necropoli' because the plural changes to 'I' in words ending in 'us' like 'cactus' or 'sarcophagus'; Necropolis ends in 'is', obviously, so would not go 'I' in the plural.

Necropolis comes from Ancient Greek, not Latin, literally meaning 'dead city' or 'city of dead', and thus it's technical plural would be 'Necropoleis' :)

Sorry, but my inner language nerd couldn't let that go :P

I would think it probably isn't Kirkwall, as a Kirkwall origin would mean the noble should know Hawke. I would think they'd have the protagonist not know either the Hawke or the Warden personally, so that you can ask characters that did know them (Leliana, Varric, Morrigan, ect) about them.

I agree Hawke would have met trevelyan family or something about them in the codex. I think he is from ostwick or tantervale but there are 10 settlements in the free marches so there are a lot of options  bioware can pick.

No, it doesn't mean that: the Qunari mage is a Tal-Vashoth and hence not a Saarebas in the Qunari society, hence she/he could well have learned proper magic.

Why? Gaider specifically said qunari mages were never part of the Qun, so I don't see why they should've limited access to spells common in Chantry areas.

Not necessarily. They said Saarebas only used destruction, the Qunari mage isn't a part of the Qun. So depending on what exactly their background is they could have learned healing spells. Also the devs have said their is no "healing" tree the spirit tree seems to have been merged with it.

I use the term Qunari loosely because that word means that they follow the Qun which the Inquisitor is not. Is there a better word for the species that I'm not aware of?

Well, good news is sounds like Fiona may not die in the opening sequence since the whole "Is she Alistair's mother?" thing will be addressed.

No,we arent Saarebas. It was confirmed that Qunari mages get the standard chantry-approved schools like the other races. So healing should be available.

Oh alright. I had a minor meltdown right quick XD

True I just assumed the Vasoth might have similar views and Qunari Quizzy might've been stuck with just dps spells.

Possibly. Though it's not necessarily good news for me, if she's still the leader of the mages in the hinterlands.

You know, I had been thinking about helping the mages in Inquisition, but if those two are in charge...
