I hope we're from Starkhaven because WoT makes it sound like the nobles in that city are filthy rich. If we're going to be nobility - let's do it right. And screw starting from the bottom - I'll just hit up mom and dad for a lil' seed money to get the Inquisition going. ![]()

As much as I was hoping the human PC would be Orlesian back before we had any info on the game, I think having him or her be a Free Marcher makes a lot more sense. Since part of the game is set in Orlais it would be odd to have a player character asking about The Grand Game, for instance. An Orlesian should already know what that is. Ditto for a Ferelden PC and things like the Landsmeet. With the Free Marcher you can have the protagonist state, "Tell me more about your strange foreign customs," and not seem like he or she had spent their childhood living in a cave. ![]()

That must of been early because the name Trevelyan matched being Ferelden or a Free Marcher ![]()

I really hope not. I'm from a part of Canada where this is actually the name of a suburb. It would be such an immersion breaker.
There's a whole bunch of towns 'in the real world' called Markham, same with Cumberland. Tantervale appears to be reasonably unique though, while Ansburg is a family name. Ostwick may be just ' Eastwick' (of the witches) with English ' East' replaced by German ' Ost'. Reminds me of my teenage D&D mapping days
.
Come to think of it, would have preferred Ferelden over the Free marches. At least Ferelden has character, even if it's mostly brown and green

I'm kind of glad. I was worried we'd be Ferelden again.
I don't particularly like Ferelden ![]()

Good point, but I think Orlais was out of the question from the start because of the accent. In some cases - Nevarra, Orlais, Antiva - they have already established non-native speaker 'national accents'. Although a light French accent would have been perfectly acceptable to most people I suspect, quite a few Anglophone 'fans' expressed a dislike of the 'Orlesian' accent. It would have been something of an avoidable risk, and avoid it they did.
Besides, I am not sure the game will deal much with the Great Game of Orlais; none of the videos and interviews suggest anything of the sort, and even if some of it is in the game itself: A civil war over the throne and political intrigue are not that hard to comprehend.

Ferelden is love. Ferelden is life.
If I had to guess, I would say that Trevelyan isn't from either Kirkwall or Starkhaven, on the basis that it would remove the connection to Dragon Age 2. Less baggage for the developers and the character's background.

Yeah, it was back before the surnames were released.

I'm hoping the human mage is from the Kirkwall circle...just imagining the interactions between him/her and Cullen.
Edit: sorry just noticed it's human noble

I'm with those who consider Kirkwall to probably be unlikely.
A noble Kirkwaller would have too much involvement in the events of DA2, and would know Hawke and possibly Varric. I'd be surprised if the Human Noble isn't from one of the other Marcher city-states.

Starkhaven, because the name's cool.
Reminds me of a joke: What do you call Starkhaven after it gets taken over by blood mages?
Blüdhaven!

Another question could be; how much of a noble is he/she gonna be? As powerful as the Couslands? Or more towards the lower ranks like a Bann.
I guess its gonna be a major player if he/she got summoned to the peace conference.

I had hoped for that as well, but then it would look silly if we asked Cassandra to tell us more about Nevarra, I guess....
Atleast its not Ferelden this time.

Yes, I hope so because that would connect him to the character. Also, there's no way we're from the Starkhaven circle since it burned down.

Well we can have dalish first and qunari there so rather importance isn't necessarily in case.
