Ferelden is the land of Heroes! You should all be grateful that the Dog-Lord Nation has birthed so many throughout the Ages!
That said, I don't mind being a Marcher. I think Kirkwall and Starkhaven are out of the picture. The rest of the cities are fair game. Here's to hoping Alistair/Anora annex the Free Marches and the Inquisitor becomes Ferelden retroactively.

I'm surprised people want to be from Tantervale. It is, by far, the most religious and authoritarian city of the Free Marches.
There, a child may be sent to prison for a year for a crime that would earn them a pat in the back on Orlais.
ORLAIS!
In my defense, I didn't know Tantervale had a giant stick up its but.

Thank you for the info on Wycome and Tantervale i cant find much info on them.
Happy to help!
There are also these about the other minor Free Marches cities:
Ostwick: When the Qunari first landed in the Free Marches, it was at the city-state of Ostwick near the mouth of the Waking Sea. The city-state's famous double walls show the effect this had on the people's nerves.
Ansburg: The word "backwater" gets thrown around a lot when describing Ansburg, but this city-state is a bustling, if not beautiful, center of agricultural trade.
Markham: Ansburg's more cultured sister city is home to one of the largest universities in Thedas, a center for agricultural research.
Hasmal: This far-flung city-state's position on the edge of the Silent Plains means a regular influx of Tevinter refugees, who are often escaped slaves.
Hercinia: The palatial city-state on the Amaranthine coast would be an ideal vacation spot if not for the taxes and frequent raider activity.
So...based on this... Hercinia and Hasmal sound interesting, and Ostwick sounds more like a fortress than a city, but Markham and Ansburg sound pretty boring. I still say Trevelyan should come from Wycome.

This is from The World of Thedas, but I don't know if this is canon.
Tantervale: Chantry law is all but absolute in Tantervale, earning the city its dour reputation. The city guard is obsessed with enforcement. A street urchin would get a year in the dungeon for something that would get him a pat on the back in Orlais.
So yeah...doesn't sound like a fun place. Wycome, however...
Wycome: Widely regarded as the most free of the Free Marches, the revelry capital of Thedas is also the second greatest importer of Antivan wine after Orlais - particularly impressive considering Wycome's population is less than a third of Val Royeaux.
Trevelyan, please be a Wycomer...
Precisely, here's my Trevelyan now

More wine. MORE WINE!

Starkhaven. If we must be a Free Marcher, then let us be one of the most influential families in the wealthiest city.
Cousland was always my favorite origin. It was great knowing you were around the fourth or fifth most important person in Ferelden.

Yeah. Also, I would prefer the Inquisitor to be the child of the Lord Chancellor of Tantervale over the third cousin twice removed of some random noble from Minor Marcher City Whose Name I Can't Remember. If you're going to noble, do it right.
That's why the Inquisitor must come from Starkhaven! Its totally the Hamptons of Thedas.
The largest city in the Free Marches is also its most grand. Much has bee made of Starkhaven's famed wealth and the obvious ways it is on display. Large sections of the city are decorated in fine materials like marble and gold. Ferdindand Genetivi, who traveled much of Thedas as anyone, wrote "Starkhaven's wealth was truly a sight to behold." The wealthiest and richest in Starkhaven are the ruling Vaels. The proud and pious royal family keeps a magnificent marble palace in the heart of Starkhaven amid the city's numerous kingly estates. Even the path to the palace is paved in granite.
You can probably take a boat ride up the Minanter River just to play lookie loo at the local estates. Its this or Wycome to me.

I'd like my Trevelyan to be from Starkhaven if not from Wycome, if only for the whole being rich thing (unless the Trevelyan family is one of those impoverished noble families like the Amells...please don't go down that road again, Bioware...please?). I'd prefer Wycome for the boozehound potential, but if not Wycome then definitely Starkhaven...maybe we can our family up on that princely throne the Vaels currently sit on! That'll boost support for the Inquisition. ![]()
Still, a shame there are no choices for a Scottish accent...that'd be great for a Trevelyan from Starkhaven... ![]()

My problem with Starkhaven it's that it is too "been there, done that". I'd probably prefer something entirely new.
