I'm rather hoping that someone, or perhaps many some ones, can offer
me some much needed advice. To put the problem simply: I know
nothing when it comes to using the toolset. Honestly. Not even one
teeny, tiny, little thing. I have diligently tried to work my
through some of the tutorials on the wiki but as it all completely
new to me i find that i remain embarrassingly confused. It really
isn't that i can't get textures right, or that my modules aren't
working properly - i have yet to work out how to get far enough into
doing anything to fail. Now, i should stress here that I am really
not blaming the toolset. Tis me that is the problem here. I don't
even have an excuse - i'm 27 and have been playing games on the PC
since i i was about 11. Sadly i seem to have learnt nothing about how
games actually work. I my defence I have always been an
arts student so always just assumed that any form of 'science' was
actually just witchcraft in disguise.
So, does anyone know of a good 'idiots guide' to getting started? Ideally one that
assumes it will have to explain things to me as though i had been
dropped on the head rather alot as a child? Failing that, can anyone
think of any more general reading/resources that would help me
develop the basic grounding to be able to work the toolset out?
I already had DA:O on the Xbox but couldn't resist getting it on
PC as well (slight side note, but very pleasantly surprised by just
how different a game it feels). The toolset was one of my big reason
for getting the game on PC as well, even though i thought it highly
likely i'd end up in this epic state of fail. And while I will be
very happy just having access to the added content and mods that
other lovely people have made, i really would like to stop being such
a noob and make some of my own as well.
Hmmmm, well this has turned into a very long post to essential ask for some start up
tips hasn't it? I think i should stop typing now
