Hey all.  Later this summer I hope to run the various CQ builds (that I ran through the DCS level earlier this year) through a common merc/mech level to test against shielded and armored enemies.  Any suggestions for a good level for this?  It should be fairly long and difficult, with a lot of different types of enemies.  It also needs to be post-DCS, which sadly eliminates Thane's recruitment mission (since he is usually loyal before the DCS).  Right now I'm thinking LotSB, but open to other suggestions.  Which merc/mech level did you personally find extra challenging or hard to get a uniform handle on?

The only real mission that features both mercs and mechs together is Samara's recruitment mission. Although the mercs on that mission are mostly barriered instead of shielded.

Miranda's loyalty mission also has some mechs, but they tend to be bunched together with other mechs and not really grouped together with mercs. Lair of the Shadow Broker is the same thing: some mechs but they are grouped with other mechs and not mercs.

And as you pointed out, Thane's recruitment mission is the only other post-DCS mission that features mechs and mercs together.

Jacob's loyalty mission also features mercs and mechs. I find that mission can be a bit of a pain at times because of LOKI mechs and that last fight has some weird cover placement that can be annoying.

It's also quite short.  Same problem with Garus loyalty (which also gets a bit ridiculous at end with 2 YMIRs).  Miranda loyalty is better, but is pre-DCS for about half my character saves (so harder to use as a standard).

At this point I guess I'm leaning toward LotSB, partly because it's become such a classic.  As I recall there is one spot on Hagalaz (ship exterior) where mechs and mercs appear together - will just have to make the most of it.

Update 9/2014: I finally decided that Thane's recruitment mission is simply too awesome for this, and that I should just suck it up and replay the post-horizon missions (including DCS) to get a shotgun for it. One upside of reordering is that I can also complete Samara's Loyalty mission and thus bring her along for AOE stripping.

Anyway, rather than post vids in a bunch of separate threads (as I did for DCS missions), I will consolidate to a single thread. CQC Adept shortly...
