Well, after the announcement today, I get the feeling that this cake is even more "important" than before to offer our moral support :).

Agreed! I want to cheer them on. Go Bioware go, you can do it!  :wizard:

With that in mind, are we still looking at the same time frame or push it back a little but still before release?

That's a good question. Bryan Johnson commented a little bit on their vacation plans over here:

No the expectation was a good portion would be taking vacation in september (since that is when we would have been in cert, and there is less to do then). But now that isnt really possible since september now becomes our busiest time.

In the case of people who had trips planned off and booked they arent being canceled, the company will let them still go. Just those that were being told that we should take some vacation before release now will be taking it in Oct instead of Sept.

Maybe we should still try for late August and early September at the latest?

I agree, and I think it would be better sooner rather than later, so I'd like to vote for sticking with the original time frame :)

Here's a snippet from David Gaider's latest Tumblr post:

"Regardless, work on the project is stressful enough as we slowly come in for the landing that I’m absolutely positive anyone on the team would be really glad to receive kind thoughts right about now."

Definitely feeling motivated to show them moral support. I LOVE Dragon Age and I feel so much appreciation for all their hard work. I want to give them love!!  <3  <3  <3

Hey guys, yeah I think it would be best to stick to late August/early September. They could probably use the pick me up as well :)

I just got an email! ^_^
Let me know thoughts and opinions.

Regarding the cookies:
Unfortunately they can't do shortbread but they said they can do a mixture of chocolate and vanilla with the Templar insignia hand iced on them for $2.75 per cookie -- usually $3.00 per cookie but they have offered to pay the tax on them for us. Let me know if you guys are still interested in doing this.

Cake:
For a standard chocolate cake with butter cream filling to feed 75 people is $200 -- this is without decoration and I'm just using flavour as an example, it would be the same $$ for all flavors. That is $2.66 per serving.
Printed edible sheets are $20 each and are 8"x10".

Once we can give them a definite on what we want then they can give us a more accurate price.

With the cake we don't have to get one. We could do three smaller ones with each of them having something different on them because honestly, if we were to go with the figurines they would look kind of ridiculous on a big cake. Also concerning the figurines--we need to give them a concept picture to go by so they can give us a price. I know chibi pieces were suggested but do we have a picture of one that we can send through to them and is it OK with the artist if we base the figurine on their work? If anyone has any pictures they can post in here then I can email them and get a price. Also, we have make sure that the concept picture we are giving for the figurines is achievable and not too complex. :)

With whether or not we are saying thank you for Cullen or the game, then I think it should be both per Allen's suggestion. We don't want people feeling like their hard work isn't as appreciated because they weren't involved with in creating a certain character but we can still make it clear that the thank you is from the Cullenites. The good thing about doing multiple smaller cakes is that we can do one of them completly Cullen themed and the others more neutral.

I still think the most cost effective way would be to do edible prints of fan art on the cakes and as long as we are giving them clear pieces to print then they will look really nice. A lot of the time edible prints can look horrible because the initial photo/picture given to print was of poor quality. I know this because I was 2IC in a bakery for 3 years and have sullenly shaken my head on a number of occasions when a customer has refused to rethink their image option and then packed a fit at me because it didn't turn out as nice as they wanted.

But once I get a price on figurines we can steam roll ahead, get an overall price, set up PayPal and place our order ;)

I think the cookies sound like they'd be too expensive. I like the idea of the fan art cakes with a good quality print. :)

Yeah, I agree that multiple smaller cakes (3?) with printed fanart is the best way to go about this. Maybe, one with Cullen fanart, one with Inquisition fanart and one with a "Thank You" message?

Seconding this. I also think the cookies are too expensive. And I like the idea that we could do different things for each cake. I like fanart with quality prints, too. However, if we want to do figurines on one cake I would keep this one cake simple with just the figurines, some flaming swords for the decoration, a thank you message and no print.

Something wasn't clear to me (but it's late here, so I hope you don't mind me asking).

One cake without decoration costs 200 $. Boom, you said we could do three cakes = 600 $. Right? Do we have that much money?

One cake that feeds 75 people without decorations is $200 but what I was saying is we don't have to do big cakes, we can do multiple smaller ones that feed less people. So say we can do three cakes that feed 20-25 people each instead of one large cake and if we scrap the cookies idea--which would be wise as they are costly--we could be looking at $140 per smaller cake with decoration. This is a rough estimate on my part so don't quote me on it ;)

I think we all just need to keep in mind that this a gift from us to say thank you and not us trying to put on a feast of cake, so maybe not worry so much about enough cake for around 200 people and just do what we can afford.

I still think that Giggle's piece of the war table is a good all-rounder.

Though with the length of it, it may not work.

Gala's thank you for Cullen is super cute.

And I really don't know what to suggest for a third one because I have been completly distracted by this NSFW piece:
http://thecullenclub.../C-11-468789247
Which we can absolutely not put on a cake--right? :P

If anyone else has any pictures in mind then post them :)

We'll do our best with what we can afford. Hopefully if someone doesn't end up getting a piece of cake our kind words in the card and the gesture as a whole will make up for it. :)

I like the idea of smaller cakes, and love the fan art. I think the staff will just appreciate the thank you:)

My problem with my thank you pic is that I already showed it to Brianne, and I probably need to make a new one, because that one was a gift to her.

I agree on prints. No figurines. All characters are made of very small details, it would be very hard to recreate that without even proper reference images. And prints are cheaper. We need this to be as cheap as possible :) But still good!

Ideas for the prints:

1) Inquisitor's helmet or insignia.

2) Lion's head or templar's sword

3) a fan art piece with Cullen on it. Not sure I will be able to do it, though, because I'm being shipped off to a new project since Monday, and bye BSN&art. But I'm not the only Cullenite artist, so it shouldn't be a problem. Plan b if we can't get a fan art - just write big "Thank you from #Cullenites" on the cake, and decorate it with small swords of mercy.

Got it :D! Thanks for the explanation.

True. Although it would be nice if we had enough cake for everybody. Maybe we can work it out somehow (depending on the costs, of course) that everybody gets at least one small piece of cake.

I totally agree on Gigglelam's war table art. I think we should ask Giggle if we can use it for the cake and whether or not it would fit. That is, if everybody is okay with this.

My ideas for the cakes:

1) War table with all characters (print)

2) Cullen (print)*

3)  If we don't use any figurines at all (which is probably cheaper), I'm in favor for a flaming templar sword and a "thank you" message. (The sword could be a print or just icing.)

* We could ask Mellora if she could draw a "safe for work" picture of Cullen for us.

I second Macy! I have no experience when it comes to edible gifts hence I support all the presented ideas so far! I'll just give you the monies.

I will be lurking here every now and again just to see what is the general consensus. And I <3 you all for the enthusiasm!

*rolls in*

I'm happy to lend my image! I can send a high res if needed. I could also squish some of the characters in a bit if the length is an issue.

Hey guys quick question.

The wartable image fits quite well into the 10 inch width for the cake. The only thing is that because it's not that tall there is about 2 inches on top and bottom that are blank. Now I'm cool with leaving it blank but did you guys want to write a message? I can easily fit a simple 5-8 words sentence/thankyou nicely.

Let me know what you think. I should be back on and see what's going on tomorrow evening. (so 20 hours or so for me)

:)

How about filling up the space with something like: 'Thank you for DA:I, #Cullenites' ?
