I think the best thing to do is wait and see how much this is going to be and then try and devide it evenly among everyone. Now, not everyone has a comfortable financial situation so I think it fair that there will be some that can't donate as much as others. It is understandable and I don't expect anyone to be contributing outside of their means. I highly doubt that the situation of someone paying a lot more than someone else because of this will arise through as we have 34 people people that are definitely onboard with this -- which is awesome by the way -- and at US$10 each, that is a lot of cake. :D

After we have the cake planned and quotes we can go back to the main thread -- as Chachi suggested -- and show them what we have got and offer again whether or not they want to jump onboard with us. :D

Anything else? Go.....

You may find that when you deal with professional bakeries, $340 does not go as far as you think it will. In New Jersey, bakeries charge around $6 per serving for a fancy cake. You could get a filled sheet cake with writing on the top for about half that.

I have a friend who is a pastry chef who does awesome work. I wish we lived closer, as he'd give me a serious discount. But Berelinde is right - custom cakes or cupcakes/other can get quite expensive, so we'd really need to ferret out some pricing first then go from there.

On the website that was recommended it says that "[s]culpted cakes start at $250 and may increase based on design and serving requirements." I think it really depends on the design we want. I like Boomshakalakalakaboom's suggestion that we have a look first at how much this cake will cost us. Maybe the bakery can make an estimate of the costs based on a drawing.

Those flavours make me hungry... Maybe I should test them first, yes... (ok ok... I'll keep dreaming <_< )

I agree about getting an estimate on how much the cake will cost---for a family member's party we bought a custom sheet cake that was about $240. I am not in Edmonton though, so am not sure how much it would be there versus other areas.

I am willing to put more than $10 in and others stated in the first group that they would be willing to chuck in $20. I just don't want to put pressure on those that can't afford much and make them feel like they have to put in the same amount as others. The simpler we can keep the cake/s the cheaper they will be and as Allan said, they are generally just stoked to be getting it. :)

It may be best to figure out what we want to do and then take up a collection based on our target amount. I'm good for $20. Maybe let folks donate what they can and ask for more if we're short?

Yeah, I think we need to get two options.  One a great cake (I want a large cake with the companions and advisors in chibi form) on the top with a message written in chocolate like 'Thank-you Bioware for the characters we've fallen in love with.  Yours appreciatively,The Cullen Thread'  This is going to come in a several hundred dollars.

I think we should also look at a cheaper option of several hundred cookies with 1/2 chibi Cullen faces and 1/2 Thank-you.  This way we can present the group with two different pricing options and see what is preferred and achievable for us price wise.
