Well, we've already seen a Wyvern enemy in a trailer.  Surely they could reuse the rig, no?

I'm no animations expert/video game designer, but I don't think that a unique enemy (that's likely confined to a small area) could be re-purposed as a mount. I'm going to throw out the word "pathfinding" and pretend I know what it means... :P

Well, it means they have the model and presumably the walking/running animations for the creature.  I won't pretend I know a whole lot about it either, but at that point I think they could resin it with a saddle and (with some modification) pretty much just plug in whatever code they use to put the Inquisitor on top and allow the player to control it as a mount.

Well I think they might be saying it like that because there's more then one. Wyvern is pretty much a given. But I'm thinking there might be another lizard. Else why wouldn't they just say "wyvern mount?" Or A lizard mount?

My point is that I find it hard to believe they would waste extra time/resources going through the trouble of creating an entirely unique mount (meaning one that has a completely separate rig/fluidity of movement/animations, etc)... in the case of a wyvern mount, wouldn't they also need to record additional VO of NPCs commenting on it? It would be totally lame if the Inquisitor rode into Redcliffe on a wyvern and everyone was just like "oh hey". I just don't see it happening. I think they might do some sort of scaled horse/bronto type mount, but I would be surprised if they did a wyvern. Just my thoughts!

My point is that they already have the rig and animations, it wouldn't be too exhaustive an experience to put them together, I imagine.  As for additional VO, that might be a thing, it might not be.  We also still haven't heard a thing about the "pig-like" mount (Likely Bronto) described, but if that's in then they apparently aren't being too restrictive.

Hey, I'm all in favor of having unique mounts to choose from (I really hope we get a chance to name them, like the dog in DA:O and DA:II...) so I wouldn't complain :)

And I heard that it wasn't exactly a Bronto... one of the devs described it as a hybrid between that and a nug...!

I'm just a bit confused by the devs priorities... instead of spending extra time/resources to create unique mounts, I kind of wish they had instead given our companions mounts, too, to enable them to ride with us and engage in party banter. The whole disappearing act when I get on a mount is going to prevent me from using them, I think...

Well, I'd like that too, but i can imagine that creating unique mounts that reuse much of the same code may somehow be easier that resolving whatever pathfinding difficulties companion mounts present. (If its possible at all)

I think it will be something like this:

http://youtu.be/xnXlKrBItc0?t=1m9s

@ 1:09 in the trailer, I could see that being the "lizard" type of mount you could get.

We are without a doubt going to ride wyverns and a bronto[ one of the devs mention a water bufflo type of creature and nug also seen during the 2013 demo]

It's too bad pets such as the mabari hound from Origins and 2 have been confirmed not to be returning in Inquisition. I wanted a pet dragonling to follow me around. :crying:

Riding a wyvern or a drake will ALMOST make up for the lack of Scorchy. ALMOST.

Didn't see any wings on it though, unless something changed, Wyverns have wings, they did in DAII at least;.

Either I missed them in that video but it appears to not have any wings, when it jumps I don't see any at all where they normally had them.

Wyvern do have wings, but they aren't a 3rd set of appendages like Dragons. Drakes don't have wings, Dragons have full fledged wings (drakes are just nubs, never growing out). That's a Male/Female difference along with there general size. Not sure if that's a difference with Wyverns though but they do have wings, they're attached to there forelegs. Can't fly, but can use them to glide distances, not... sure how that works with how they've past shown them, but in either case, they are there.

Best I can figure is the wingless are either A, to young to have them, or they've decided male Wyverns don't have them.

You mean those things on its legs? I didn't think those were wings. they seem like fins or something...

Yeah there like some odd half-wing, things. Derpwings, if you will. They can glide but not fly with them. Dunno why they're so halved like that though, you'd think it would have a third skin-sheet from it to the torso to allow for better gliding. Maybe they get all chicken-armed and just spread them out close to the body to look more like short-wings. No idea, they don't have any examples yet of them doing it.

Im not seeing how these would be useful for gliding or anything... I mean flying squirrels use all the space in between their legs/torso and they can only glide. Im hoping the one in the trailer is the new design for all wyverns, not just one gender.

I'd prefer they don't retcon the lore. If they where to do any amount of 'redesign' they should just make the wings less awkward. Like I said just need the skin sheet to continue on to the body to make a proper wing. Don't have to be able to 'fly'. But either direction is a redesign so whatever. Either case curious whats up with the 'wingless' Wyvern in that trailer/screen.

If it isn't a redesign it could be the female. Leopold was a male and I assume the alpha was too.

If we can ride Wyverns, then thats another hard decision I will have to make to make in this game. Wyvern or Bog Unicorn (or possibly other mounts I'll really like that I don't know yet.) If I decide to be a Necromancer over Rift Mage, then I'll probably pick the Bog Unicorn.

My Necromancer is 'definitely' riding the bog Unicorn. Undead Horse with a rusted broken sword through its head? Hah, haah, heh why.. why WOULDN'T i use that, right? Mount I'll use is gonna depend on the character but I got like 6 planned. Some will use boring old horse since it's more traditional (my Mazzy remake). Not sure I'll use the Red Hart whatever.

'If' the Lizard Horse is a Wyvern I'll probably end up using that the most on most of my chars though thats for sure. Only Necromancer is using that Bog Unicorn though. Not because it's not 'super kewl' but cause it just fits that so absurdly perfect I don't wanna ruin it with other non-necromancer butts.

If it is, I'm so naming my Inquisitor Danarys.

Because I'm just that original.
