That just tells us that Duncan thinks they're dragons. Maybe he has reason to think that, but we don't.Actually, before the Battle of Ostagarr in Origins, I remember either Duncan or Alistair (I think it was the latter) specifically saying "we don't know if Archdemons really are Old Gods, but there's no denying that they are dragons".
Possibility of a friendly dragon?

There was a girl from a Dragon age movie that has the ability to control dragons. I forgot her name...
Avexis in Dawn of the Seeker.

i too would have liked not to only fight a dragon with my party but conquer a dragon, tame a dragon and train and fly a dragon in the later stage of the game (instead of using horses).
Having the party riding on the back of a dragon, flying around the country, seeing the land from above that would have been something. Not sure how complicated it is to get it done right though…
I understand that in the DA setting dragons are, well, cruel huge animals unlike the dragons in let’s say BG where you could have a chat with them, but I would have hoped for them to be more than just xp, loot in DA.
Dragon tournaments, dragon missions, dragon flight simulator and we have a game in the game

Dragons are animals, but animals can be smarter than humans sometimes. Animals aren't all going to be enemies this game. The two facts may be entirely unrelated, but if it turns out that we can use a dragon to help us fight something worse in exchange for going away unharmed, and perhaps even betray it later, that might be cool to try. If it's an option I'll be hoping I remembered to save before I found out it wasn't such a good idea after all.

not every animal can be tamed and domesticated. Have you ever seen a gator that wouldn't bite its handlers arm off just as soon as eating the fish offered to it? wild animals are wild animals and I hope we don't get to tame a dragon or see a tamed dragon. it takes away from the thrill of them being the apex predators.

Sure, but it would be fun to try to tame one, and finding out the hard way that it doesn't work is the way I usually go about problem solving.

It would be far easier to just kill the things, would you rather be remembered for trying to tame a dragon and failing or mercilessly proving your superiority against an apex predator.

While I doubt that we will run into a talking dragon (sans Flemeth) I hope that a similar option to how the dragon cults 'appease' the dragons is available.
The dragon in Origins was intelligent enough to realize that the Dragon cult was feeding her and taking care of her young and so she did not attack them on sight. I am hoping that I can do same with our Inquisition and essentially have a few 'watch dogs' patrolling some of our more valuable keeps. We keep the dragon fed and protect her young, and in return she would see the attacking Red Templars or demons (for example) as a threat to her free meal ticket and will aid in the keep's defense.
i wish this were possible; your strongholds surrounded by badass dragons protecting it while u put all ur time into bringing havoc upon ur foes. Imagine tevinter magisters, templars, seekers, circle mages all sitting far in front facing u while u sit upon ur dragonbone throne with a badass high dragon on each side glaring at them.
There is nothing as good as a lil bit of fear to make negotiations go smoothly in your favor...

Unfortunately DA dragons are NOT the intellectual dragons from DnD which you could talk with.
I dislike this because DnD dragons are powerful intellectually and physically. In the DA universe dragons are only powerful physically (as of now).
My favorite dragon encounter in a game was the red dragon from baldurs gate that appeared as a human in a tavern to give you a quest. I dont remember the details but I think the dragon had some agenda with the nearby lands - and you could choose to help him out.
Edit: FOUND HIM!
