The itty-bitty thought I have running in my head is that Sera will be gated against humans, and that Vivienne will be a lesbian gated against elves, and possibly qunari. It's highly unlikely, sure, but I thought I'd share. 

 

I would LOVE for Vivienne to be available to female dwarves and/or qunari, so this would work for me.  I'm planning do one female playthrough, preferably dwarf, and Vivienne is really the only gal that I'm interested in.  I've pretty much come to terms that it's a longshot, but I maintain a sliver of hope that it might happen still.  Either way, Vivienne is stunning and amazing, so I can't wait to finally "meet" her in game.  November can't come quick enough!

I could see Sera being gated against humans, maybe, but I think Vivienne will likely still be bisexual. I'll honestly be surprised if Solas/Vivienne aren't bisexual. I think it's still more likely that in-game races will be unbalances, rather than real world groups.

Without looking into the likelihood (character threads, external info) of any of the remaining companions, my guess is Vivienne and Solas. I don't see Blackwall being a possible romance, and of course, Varric has Bianca. If Varric is a romance option, then he will definitely be only for female dwarves.

 

Solas will most definitely be bisexual, due to his being unaffected by what most Thedosians are subject to. As for Vivienne, she's Orlesian, so she will be bi as well. Both will probably be non-racial exclusive.

 

I would not put it past BioWare to give us only two non-player-sexual/bisexual romances. With the 4 years of development time, I don't see time restraints as a problem for Inquisition's romance portion.

Part of the reason I think Vivienne could end up being a lesbian is how it was said--in an offhand manner, and thus not taken as anything more than speculation fuel--that straight male characters had two choices in DAO, two in DA2, and then the same amount in DAI. (I can't remember where this was said. I'll have to go back and listen.) Now, this could mean that we'll get two male LI, but gay!Vivienne is just as likely.

 

Sera being gated against humans is brought up because if they added any LI's after race selection were re-added, it would make sense they'd be gated against humans. Not that there's any evidence that Sera was added as an LI later, though. 

 

EDIT: I went back and listened to the GaymerX panels, and I found the bit I was talking about. It's from 'Freaking out the Neighbors' and it the tangent starts at 36:30 and continues on for a minute to a minute-and-a-half. Here's a link to the video on Youtube, starting from that spot: LINK. Again, said offhandedly and in a humorous situation. Am not taking as gospel, but it's something to mentally chew on until everything is announced.

Exactly what I'm thinking.  I think that a no nonsense, stone-stubborn lady dwarf warrior is exactly the type of gal that I would like to see go head-to-head with Vivienne.

IMO Varric would really be coming out of left field... I know he's popular but... something about that just seems like a longshot.  It's possible but I'd give it a very low probability.

 

The only reason I agree with you that Vivienne isn't guaranteed is the mystery that is Blackwall.  He's just too much of a wild card, and could easily be the final LI if they weren't trying to keep things even between genders.  Since we know almost nothing about him, I won't rule him out, but I'd set his odds somewhat low... if gender isn't a factor however, I'd give him a 45-50% chance of being the one.  Actually, 55% might be a bit more appropriate simply because he's so mysterious...

Good point about Blackwall and the Calling likely being imminent for him-- I was thinking along these lines myself. Besides, if anyone in the group has the personality to fit into the "grizzled veteran lone-wolf" niche, it's him and Iron Bull, but IB seems like more of an overtly social kind of dude, so that leaves Blackwall and the patented Warden stoicism.

I think it depends on how the gating is divvied up. Going from DG's tweet, there's probably one gated LI that we already know about. If it's Cullen and he's gated against dwarves (and maybe Qunari but hopefully not, the only Inquisitor I want to romance him with is a Qunari Mage) then I can see the last two being an ungated Solas and a dwarf-gated Varric. Because remember, every combination has to get a minimum of two options, and Iron Bull used to be race-gated. If IB was gated against dwarves and Cullen was gated against dwarves then straight female dwarf inquisitors would only have one romance (assuming that bi ungated Solas is the other option). So straight Varric might've been included to balance that out.

I have lost interest in romance in DAI atm since the one I want the most, Cullen, is unromanceable. It's understandable why people are trying to rationalize why their option would make more sense. Seeing as how I have no stake in this. I feel like it's very likely to be Solas and Vivienne at this point.

Heh, I'll admit that I would love Varric to be a romance, even though my primary bias is Solas.

Vivienne's devotion to having high status among the Orlesian nobility makes it likely that she will be race gated, but I don't think she will be gender gated as well.  Solas could go either way.  He seems pretty laid back, but that might not extend to romance partners...

I would be sad if Sera was gated against humans, since human rogue was what I originally planned for her... but I've been pretty lucky with the romances so far, so I wouldn't complain about it... externally.

I do have to say that the idea that one of the gender-gated LIs are also race-gated makes me wonder if one of the remaining LIs has the same sexuality but is open to opposite races. For example, lesbian Sera gated against humans and lesbian Vivienne gated against everything except for humans or straight Cullen gated against dwarves and straight Varric being gated against everything except dwarves. They could be viewing them as effectively one option. It wouldn't surprise me .

I want Solas and Vivienne for equal choices first and foremost. But I would be happy (personally) with Solas and Varric (though I'd feel terrible for gals and dudes who wanted Vivienne). My worst case scenario would be anything without Solas, basically

They basically said at one point that not all races would get the same amount of options, so I don't think there's that strong of a cause to assume they'll make one of the remaining the specific sexuality of the possible race gated one. I expect the race gates to make things uneven. Based on what David Gaider said before, I'd actually be surprised if things were balanced by race. We know everyone will have two options, but based on a quote someone showed me before by Allan, I'm not even sure if we can be sure that was solid before Iron Bull was ungated.
