Companions aren't, though.

Wait, where did they actually said that ?

David Gaider said it in a tweet. People were assuming that the last two were race-gated and he said that it was untrue. It's floating somewhere around here. Let's see if I can find it.

If we consider the status of elves in general, I guess I could see how making the most visible ones lgbt could be seen as problematic to some. Even though most of them seem to rise above the plight of most elves.

Yeah but then that would leave male Qunari Inquisitor players out in the cold.

That would happen then, yeah. But Bioware never said they were gonna distribute the romances equally among the races, only that there will be equal representation regarding sexuality.

Let me tell you a little about my ME LI preferences. My favorite is Garrus for reasons I won't go into but my second favorite is Samantha. One of the reasons for that is that she has expertise in a field Shepard does not have and can help her without either overshadowing the other. I see the same kind of potential with advisors, especially Josephine.

I really think the race gated LI's are Varric and Cullen. And I would hate this so much, because I think they would make Varric straight. I actually hope, we'll get a bisexual Vivienne and Solas.

That would be completely and utterly lame.

Spoiler

To me, this reads that at least one of the unannounced LI's is non-race-gated.

EDIT:  'd

With the Gareth David-Lloyd tweets, I'll be surprised if Solas is not an LI. I think the race gates will be on Vivienne and either Cullen or Sera.

I doubt they'll take race into consideration with their "everyone gets at least 2 LI's". I think that was referring to sexualities.

Yay, once again, human players reap all the rewards.

Eh, tbh as long as there is equality regarding sexuality, i'm fine.

That was their plan.

Hence why I'm expecting the final 2 LI's to be BI. Though, I'll be cool with it as well if they make both gay.

I already got 2 romances I'm happy with.

This is how I feel. I want to see an even split for gender/sexuality, but I don't care if race options are slightly off.

Ah yes, as long as the LGBT community is happy, everything is perfectly copacetic.

@ CrimsonHead and Bluedrake89 - I don't know what to tell you then.  It doesn't seem like the same power dynamic.

Soldiers in the field are your subordinates.  Regardless of whether they agree or disagree, it's not their job to give you advice on how to complete a task.  The sole purpose of advisors is to give suggestions on how you accomplish your goals.  If you disagree with what one of your mages says, they can still be valuable as combatants.  If you disagree with an advisor's general philosophy or principles, there is no alternative role that they can fill.  Advisors and companions are not the same, so why would their opinions on tactics be weighed equally?  If there is a clear distinction between the roles of advisors and companions, I think it's fair to use that as one reason to view potential romances with them in different ways.

That's how I see it, at least... it's not the only reason I don't care for non-companion romances, but w/e...  overall, I have a hard time seeing them as being equal to an actual party member.

You obviously have not kept up with what has been officially been posted.  Its ALREADY been said the advisors will have equal dialogue, etc to what the companions have.

Well, they did always receive the short end of the stick each time. So I'm fine with it if they for once get a bit more than us.

The implication is still clear: Anders moved in with the rich man with a big house like a wife would in such times.

What times? I think a husband would move in with a rich wife just as easily.

I've already explained that I do not see companions and advisors as equals.  If you disagree, that's fine, but I am free to have a different opinion, ok?

Since when?

We had a big, long discussion about it in the locked Romance thread, actually. The general consensus was that your companions are your equals, all having something unique to bring to the table, and each being a powerful (physically and in some cases, politically) individual in their own right. What makes you think that they're just soldiers, subordinate to the Inquisitor?

That's not really the way to go about it.  You don't treat inequality with more inquality.
