Oh my god you had me there for a second.
You fooled me for a second there. Figured it'd be GoT since I'm probably the only person who doesn't watch it. Thanks tho!
Nah. It's Gendry from Game of Thrones.
OT but I miss him so much

I'm not heterosexual myself, and I don't know if you are either but isn't having literally every player-character you do the story with homosexual a bit much. That means Thedas is constantly being saved by gay characters which is, unrealistic
Nah, I spent literally (*used correctly*) over twenty years as a gamer before I was able to play as any gay characters in games. I'm just making up for lost time!

BOOM. As a 31 yr old gamer, I have to concur. ![]()
Besides, in my personal experience, LGBT folk make up the most exceptional of the people I know/have met. So I see nothing odd about the heros of Thedas being all some flavor of non-straight. Plus, we tend to congregate, so if the core group that makes up the Inquisition only has 2 out of 12 people who are straight in it, that would accurately reflect the ratios of the groups I tend to socialize with in RL. ![]()
On topic: Nothing odd about the last two LIs being bisexual, if they are. Also nothing weird about there being queer characters among the non-LI members of the Inquisition either. ![]()
(I am out of like again-- blame the Solas thread-- otherwise I would have liked your post, Dave)

Very much this. All the people I associate with offline are either some kind of multisexual (usually bi) or asexual, with one straight person (my dad) and one lesbian (my sister) in the mix. And for the most part, they aren't people I've chosen to be friends with either - most of them are family.
Nah they think that bisexual = gay, which is actually pretty bothering and stupid of them to think.
Indeed, but I suspect most of the people who act that narrow-minded aren't in the hardcore fanbase, so they might not know either way when meeting the characters. Either way I'm rooting for the last ones to be bi so everyone can have more choices instead of just some people. ![]()
I will still say that Liliana is a high possibility since she was one of the easiest to romance
I will still say that Liliana is a high possibility since she was one of the easiest to romance
Leliana isn't a romance option in this game, though. o:
Most likely:
Vivienne/Solas.
Solas, after that update from Garth David-Lloyd on Twitter, is pretty much confirmed. For me, anyway. There may be a chance he's referring to a friendship arc as being enjoyable enough to make up for a lost romance, buuuut...chances seem slim. Assuming he's a bi, non race-gated LI, I'd like him with my female Qunari and female dwarf...and probably male elf and male human...possibly male Qunari.
Vivienne, well. As most have said, for the sake of balance. But at the same time, I think it's definitely possible that they'll go for a split of 5 male LIs and 3 female LIs. After all, Bioware hasn't always stuck to the "equal balance" scheme. If we're counting DLC for Dragon Age 2, that makes up 3 male LIs vs 2 female LIs. Sebastian being straight adds to the imbalance if we're looking to more than just gender. In Mass Effect, I've heard most people refer to Liara as a "she". So, it could be said (regardless of the genderless/mono-gendered title asari assume, most are referred to as female and largely resemble female) that there were two female LIs and one male LI in ME1. ME2, 6 female LIs vs 3 male LIs. And ME3, 8 female LIs vs 4 male LIs. 9 female LIs vs 6 male LIs, if you're including DLC. But Samara was a returning character, so the romance held more weight...Javik and James were one-night-stands, so there's nothing very "romantic" or noteworthy about it. That being said, I could see it going either way with Viv. Many people have expressed an interest in her, so that might motivate more in her favor of becoming an LI alongside the balancing factor (if they're going for that this time around). But at the same time, again, they haven't always gone for balance between the genders, and they aren't looking to balance sexuality this time. Plus, they've stated certain characters may be too busy to indulge romancing anyone. Being First Enchanter (or, to-be First Enchanter) certainly does stack things up...there's a war going on, and she has a stake in it. If she does end up a LI (bi and non race-gated), I think I'll go for female elf and dwarf...and male elf and dwarf (possibly male Qunari) pairing.
Most favorable:
Blackwall/Varric
How likely this is? Mixed bag, I think. As far as I believe, Solas is a romance option...or, is very likely to be. So that leaves one or the other.
Varric, I find, is probably the most likely of the two. He's been extremely popular since DA2 and people have been clamoring for a dwarven romance (Varric-specific) since...ever, really. Plus, besides being a major step-up from the second game aesthetically, Varric looks different. Handsomer, I think. They'd have to wrap up the story with Bianca, which...is a bit of a long shot, but plausible. And he doesn't seem like one of those characters with much going on professionally that it would make him give pause to romancing anyone. I really see it going either way. I'm partly hoping for it, partly not. To one end, I enjoy having Varric as more of a friend, a companion! To sing tales of merriment and swig beers with, all in the luxury of the Hanged Man. (Probably to be replaced with some other tavern name...) But, should he end up a LI, it'd be easy enough to take the friendship route. Plus, I'm curious about romancing him. I like the appeal of romancing a dwarf as suave and as charming as he, and...god. All that CHEST HAIR.
It'd be interesting to see the contrast between his relationship as a friend, and his relationship as a partner to the Inquisitor. Not to mention, fingers crossed for a bi, non race-gated Varric. I'd love to romance him with a male and female Qunari...and a male and female dwarf. AND a male elf.
Blackwall...ugh. How I'd love to decorate that lovely beard with flowers.
As much as I dislike admitting it (to my own heart) the realistic part of myself recognizes he isn't very likely (sorry, fellow wall-climbers!). For one, the tragedy. We don't know when he took his Joining, so it could be years before his Calling approaches. And even if it was some time ago, it's been stated that the years before a Warden's Calling fluctuates. I believe it varies depending on the Warden's willpower. Either way, we know he's a veteran and that he was a Warden during the events of Dragon Age: Origins. Looking on the Wikia, he's past the rank of a Senior Warden, so he must've been a Warden for some time (was Warden-Constable Blackwall, probably higher ranked now that years and years have passed since that time). Personally, I'm assuming his Calling is near so it would be a tragic romance. Alistair, being a Grey Warden and all, is an eventual tragic romance that we wouldn't have to bear witness to. Thane was a tragic romance, so he could be an option. But Thane was also pretty popular. In comparison to other characters (just based on forum views and responses), he has probably one of the least popular threads around. There's not as much fanart, either, or discussion brewing. Most dismiss him as being too old (though Solas is near the same age, early to mid forties), or because he's human, they may go with Varric/Solas in order to diversify the LI cast. Plus, the whole "may be too busy" business. He's a Grey Warden, so it's reasonable enough to see him married to his work. He may take on a fatherly role...or simply act as an inspiring friend. If he does end up an LI, I'm definitely pairing him up with my female dwarf, male elf and male Qunari. ![]()
Least Favorable:
None. I like all of the options, even if I prefer some to others.
I suppose it could happen post story since you do apparently get to play on afterwards. However, if you fight that many darkspawn, how will you get out alive yourself? Or do you mean to die along side him? (either way it would not appeal to me)
Solas is LI and Blackwall isn't? Maker save us!

I will still say that Liliana is a high possibility since she was one of the easiest to romance
Also: it's Leliana.
And she won't be a romance.

Not gonna happen at all unless you think Bioware is lying to hide it.

It's simple for me... No Blackwall, no romance.
Right? See, that would let them preserve the "mystery" they seem so intent on having while still letting us m/m and f/f players either breathe a sigh of relief or get used to the idea of getting fewer options than hoped for.
The thing is, if they would say the last 2 LIs are bi, they would also have to say which gender they are, because if there are two more male bi LIs, it would suck for f/f players. But if they say, it's one female and one male, it would confirm Vivienne as an LI. So I doubt they will comment on anything unless they are ready to confirm both LIs.

Yeah... that's true. :/
Okay, then, I just selfishly wish someone would reassure me that the remaining two LIs are not straight. That's really my worst case scenario.

I have a hard time believing that the final two LIs will be straight or gay/lesbian... having 2 more bi characters just makes the most sense. Or at least it would be the most fair. On the other hand, they don't necessarily have to have the same orientation...
Meh... regardless of the possible outcomes, I just don't see it happening. The last 2 are going to be bi, mark my words.
I just wish there wasn't a need to turn the romances into a numbers game. It's sucking all the enjoyment out of speculating. Equal representation shouldn't be the exception, it should be the rule. I hope that in a few more years, we won't have to deal with this anymore. It's been going on for far too long.
