I have a hard time believing that the final two LIs will be straight or gay/lesbian... having 2 more bi characters just makes the most sense.  Or at least it would be the most fair.

We've been told repeatedly that BioWare is not interested in making the options perfectly equal. As long as each gender+orientation has option, they're content.

That is currently the case.

The optimist in me is hoping that the only 'inequality' is gonna be a result of the race-gating (ie, the last two LIs will be bi!Vivienne and bi!AnotherDude).

The pessimist in me worries that the Bioware team accomplished the 2/2/2 spread and then with the extra time decided to throw straight people 2 extra LIs.

It would just seem a waste to me, that when everything was equal, instead of leaving it that way, they would chose to tip the scales in favor of the straight player (again).

I mean, honestly, after GaymerX, I don't THINK they'll do this. But it's better, I've learned (after 20+ years of heteronormative media consumption) to expect the worst instead of setting myself up for being disappointed again.

Yeah, but even if they technically weren't attempting to balance the LI orientations and didn't make it a priority during the writing process, that doesn't mean it didn't turn out that way.

I guess I just find their claim hard to believe, but I admit it could just be wishful thinking.  The idea of leaving things unbalanced, or intentionally creating an imbalance, doesn't sit well with me.

For what it's worth; if there's going to be an unbalance, then I'm leaning towards straight females/gay men having the extra options. I'm not saying that it's an ideal situation (because it's not) but at least it's not just the straighty-s getting more again.

I still am leaning towards an even split for gender/sexuality. I think the possible imbalance could be with races and the NPC romances. While Bioware doesn't see the NPC romances as lesser, David Gaider noted in the locked romance thread that he knew some people would continue to believe they were, regardless. It's partial wishful thinking, but at the same time, there's really no strong evidence to suggest there won't be an even gender/sexuality split. So, for now, I'm not going to get too stressed about that possibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if gender/orientation weren't equal, as every combination has an option now.

There's usually been at least a slight imbalance in the games, and although Dragon Age has done better than Mass Effect on that part, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a slight imbalance this time. It's not what I wish for, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The imbalance in DA2 was lesser, I think, because it was a poorly developed DLC romance for Sebastian and everyone else got equal options besides the +1 for straight females. With DA:I they have an 8 options, which makes things a bit different. At this point, their options for imbalance are basically to add two extra straight romances (or gay, but.. yeah right), which would easily be worse, only short one group, which I also think is worse than one group getting a bonus, or to slant the genders entirely, which ends up with at least one group getting twice as many options as others. I'm hopeful that DA:I will improve upon the level of equality DA2 had, rather than backslide on it. It would also be so perfect to fit that in the 8 possible options.

Indeed. I think knowing that they have an obvious option to easily make it evenly distributed at this point with the last 2 just really has many people hoping that's the route they take.  ^_^ I have faith in the DA team on that aspect though. I try not to ever be 100% optimistic but they seem to care about it and show it, so it makes me feel good about where it's going.

I'm sure gender/orientation options are equal and the last two LIs are bi. That was the first thing I thought, when they said, they have 8 romances. 2/4/2 would be perfect and gives everyone at least 3 options. The only restrictions will probably be the race-gated romances, but I really don't mind that.
