Some theories on why Solas may be race-gated posit that he would like someone who can experience the fade as he does - dwarves don't dream and qunari claim to not dream.

 

That would make sense but Qunari can be mages so they have access to the Fade, Dwarves no such luck.

I've only heard that there is supposed to be two LIs that are race-gated.  I believe the idea that it'll be the last LIs is mainly conjecture at this point.

There's a lot of talk about the 'equality' of the LI's, and how Vivienne has to be a bi LI to keep it fair for gender splits, but this only works if Iron Bull had never been a race gated LI, which he was until recently. That meant there was another LI, probably bi, to pick up the races he was gated against, most likely dwarves and elves. Which makes me automatically think Varric, because he's a dwarf, and if they're going to give us a Qunari romance with our only Qunari companion, it's very possible they are going to give us a dwarf romance with our only dwarf companion.
Of course, this means that the other LI will be male too, because having Vivienne, when IB was gated, meant two of the females at least would have to be race gated for equality, giving us four race gates. But there were only three at the start and now only two.
So I really think it will be Varric plus either Solas or Blackwall as the last LI's making it a 5/3 split (but with two romances counting as a whole romance across race spectrum for males making it more like 4/3).

They said there are 2 race-gated romances and 2 LIs haven't been revealed.  I'm not sure they're the same ones, and they may not be the same ones we think.

 

I think they're restrictions that neither Cullen nor Varric will respond favorably to a Qunari inquisitor's romantic overtures, because of DA2 (story reasons.)

I don't know, everybody presumes so, but I haven't seen anything on them saying that the last two were race gated among the LI's. Could be the case but I haven't seen official confirmation. Is there a twitter post somewhere that confirms it? I don't have a Twitter account.

I am so torn about Varric as a romance option... I actually want to bring him and Bianca together again. But I also want someone fitting for my dwarf. 

 

I just hope it won't be Blackwall. My prior protagonists both had a tragic warden romance and though I'm a sucker for tragic romances my feeble heart just cannot handle another one of those.

I find it a little funny that people who want Vivienne and Solas think it's gonna end up Vivienne and Varric, and vice versa.  We're all a little pessimistic!

Well, the remaining two were confirmed to be race-locked. I'm also going to guess they'll be heterosexual.

It's just that most people are expecting Vivienne to be in, Blackwall to be out because "too old" and that Solas has to be bisexual so male PC get to bang an elf.

 

I'm hoping BioWare doesn't go that way...

After the chaos that was DA2 speculation, I don't want to make any guesses.  I still have scars from all that.

That's what I'm thinking it very possible for the already confirmed LIs to be race gated

I believe at this point it'll be Vivienne and Varric (both bisexual and race gated)

 

I would prefer it to be Solas and Varric (both bisexual, varric race gated only against qunari)

 

Also with that preference I hope that the other gated romance is Cullen against qunari...I know I'm being mean to the qunari with that, but yeah...they were the last added player race, and honestly not really been seen as all that emotional in past games so I'm still not sure about this whole Qunmancing. -shrug-
