Kossith Age and Biology

Hornless kossith are like red-heads, an unusual trait but nothing too odd.
Does anyone know how old kossith can get?
Are there any other aspects of kossith biology that is unique or differs from humans?

Well according to the wiki qunari naturally live for about the same length as humans, Elves and Dwarves but those living in the Qun tend to live longer due to advanced medical treatments.
All the races in Thedas are said to live approximately the same length of natural life, but Qunari have developed advanced medicine and sanitation, which allows them to extend their life span to some degree.

As for other biological things that make them different? Well...They're big...and have horns...

Hard to say really they show that they have impressive physical strength and endurance and according to Sten their mating rituals are rather well rough to say the least so most of them are in good health to put it mildly. But yeah that's what I read on the Wiki as well.
Their hair doesn't change color either so its hard to tell how old one is since when we humans age its shows.

Qunari have approximately the same lifespan as every other race of Thedas, though they tend to live longer because of better medical treatment and elder care of their society.
What is unique about Qunari physiology is that they can maintain an incredible muscle mass with very little sustenance. Sten was sitting in his cage for several weeks without any sustenance, and was still fit for fight when he was released. A human would have been long dead after a comparative time. After a week without any sustenance in the form of food humans die, two-four days in the case of lack of water.

Maybe Saarebas have a liquid diet? Edit: Considering that some of them also have their tongues removed, it seems likely that they have a liquid diet.
And all races in Thedas have similar lifespans.

@EmperorSahlertz This is a good point as a human or other member of some race would have lost weight as well as strength trying to stave off hunger and thirst yet Sten is ready to kick ass as soon as he is released.

They are resistant to Kamek (?)That poison they create for other races.
But there's nothing special I can remember about Qunari.

This could have been for gameplay reasons though... not necessarily a statement on Qunari physiology.

You can live longer than a week without food. I know this for a fact.
Water though yeah.

Then again if you ask him if he's ready to fight he says yes. If they wanted to give the impression he was tired they could've just blacked him out til you got the camp.

Could have yes, could also have given him some sort of debuff that lasted until the first time you get to camp which weakened him in combat. There are plenty of plausible options. I just think that at that point in the story, since your party is so small, they didn't want to inconvenience the player.

They could have him not mention his lack of food or changed it to a couple of days. Instead they have him relatively fit and able to speak after being without food for weeks.

I really wonder about their horns.
How do they sleep with them? Do they design their beds to accommodate those things? Will a kossith inquisitor have a unique bed model?
Do they sleep on their stomachs? Have they evolved so that this is less harmful to them than humans? I don't want to roleplay some ******* who sleeps on their stomach. Bioware, don't do this to me.
Alternatively, do they burrow into the ground and/or bed before sleeping so they can tuck their horns into adorable little hornholes? That sounds like it would be cute. Bioware, please let this be the case.

I wonder what type of horns they are. Are they bone extensions or hardened hair?

I was talking of an average really. Of course some people can survive for far logner periods of time without any food intake than others. It is based on how much is stored in the body itself. But on average the human body ceases to function after one week without ANY food.

It is official lore so we must take it for what it is. A Qunari, even after weeks of malnutrition, is still combat ready. Which means they have an extremely slow, yet extremely efficient metabolism.

If it is a horn it would be both (bone in the center and mostly keratin). As far as keratin counts as hardened hair.

True but in that case they could've just had him there for a few days. And the combat in that area is easy to get through with just 3 people (not to mention if you picked Dog up (or were a HN) you'd have a full party when you recruit him anyway).

True. I started getting dizzy spells during the second week. I guzzled water like a damn champ though. Not sure if that made it better or worse.
Makes sense.

Maybe they sleep standing up.

They could sleep on the stomac, at least the males. Or sitting.
And we already know they are horns and not antlers, so they are made of keratin or equivalent proteins and hardened skin around a core of bone.

If you consume water you can live for a greatly extended period of time. So it definitely made it better. Any fat tissue you may have had stored would probably have been broken down within the first 24 hours of your starvation period (the moment when you have ZERO food in your stomach), after that your body begins to break itself down to keep vital organs functioning. If you consumed water it would slow down the process dramatically. It is however still highly dangerous to starve oneself, since you don't actually die from the lack of food itself (usually), but rather the amalgram of diseases you contract as a result of the lack of food.

Its odd but I read that if a Qunari is born without horns then they are given special places within the society I always accosiated the horns as a symbol of strength or something so its an interesting twist if true.

Sten was trolling Morrigan. Their sex is no different from any other race in Thedas.

What if kossith aren't really that muscular and their fat distribution just makes it look like they have totally rockin' bods?
It makes no sense to me that hornless kossith are considered intimidating and given high-status in Qunari society. I know there's a lore explanation and I also know that I completely hate that piece of lore so very much. The Arishok's horns were bitchin' in DA2; am I supposed to believe that the Qunari would consider him even more terrifying and rad if he had no horns at all? Gross. Just one more reason they need to be completely annihilated and converted to ChristiAndrastianism, I suppose.

In a race where most are horned, the one without horns would seem more spectacular than anyone with horns. To humans that might sound strange, because we don't have horns. But imagine if we had a genetic quirk that made 1 in 1000 be born with what would grow to become horns. It is the exact same, but reversed for the Qunari.

Yeah I had whole gallons a day. But really I did that to myself. I could've asked someone for food but I was too damn prideful. But yeah dizzy spells were so fun. Really? Gross.
So apparently Sten didn't even hit that stage. I wonder how long it would take a Qunari to hit it...
