Hi

The background to the silly title is a peculiar exchange I had with a player a couple of days ago. It started when he asked me what a girl like me was doing playing the Juggernaut and why I wasn't playing with my Barbies instead. I asked him what he meant by 'barbies' and in his opinion, girls only play Asari and Furies on ME3. I told him that I often play the turian kits as well and then he replied by saying that turians and geth are boys' toys. I felt a bit offended so I left the conversation at that point.

Then I started thinking about it, the few female gamers I've come across on ME3 have indeed played Asari or Furies. I know of only two cases where I've seen them play Juggernauts (one was pink by the way) :) and only one TGI that I can remember. I don't think I've ever seen a female GI player either.

Granted, avatars and GTs can be deceiving but perhaps there's some truth to this? Do female gamers prefer certain kits or am I the golden exception that confirms the fact, as we say in my language?

There are plenty of girls I know who will play any kit they want. I don't think I've played with anyone who limited herself to only using female kits.

That random was just trying to get a rise out of you.

Play whatever you want, don't worry about random ignorant opinions.

Pretty sure there's no truth to it. Most people I've played with mix and match. I personally play more female kits than male ones but that's a matter of aesthetics.

Also. I think I'm more likely to be using an Asari than any girl gamer I play with on a regular basis.

I've seen both male and female gamers playing all of the kits.

Although not entirely related to ME3, I will say that I've noticed playing while playing MMOs that not a lot of girls seem to want to play tanking characters.

We have several ladies here in BSN and they seem to play a high variety of characters. I have myself two girls in my friendlist who use a lot of different kits. A fun fact by the way is that one of them plays the Juggernaut very often.

At most I see them favor the female versions of the base human kits.

My juggie is pink too. Most of my geths are pink, but not my Krogans.

I must admit that when I have the choice (vanilla humans) I tend to use the female version of a kit.

Otherwise it's just BS. I play whatever I like. If anything, people say I play mostly GI and SI. All the girls I know play turians and krogans as well as furies and asaris.

And Cinnamon, tanks are boring... >.> But I like warriors.

Edit: Oh and my boy toy is the slayer because he's sexy <3

Back when I was still playing WoW, I was the lead healer of the guild as a Draenei Shaman. The lead tank was a Night Elf Warrior, the off-tank was a Human Paladin, both were played by women.

Also this.

The vanilla human males take up more of the screen than I'd like, which is my main reason for using the females.

People who view a game, and probably the world around them, like that are purposely obtuse. Their world is a stereotype and anything that breaks that view is flawed...so I ignore them.

Hell, I feel sorry for them.

I've been choosing female RPG characters based on this for years. Females are smaller. Smaller character model means less of my view obscured. Also, if I'm going to spend a hundred hours looking at an arse it might as well be a nice arse.

Basically, that guy was a dick--and a small one (which nobody likes) at that. There is no truth to the bull sh_t he spewed in your direction. If you happen to be female and enjoy playing "feminine" classes, how is that a problem? Same case if you like to play "masculine" kits, and happen to be male. And still remains the same, even if you go against the grain. There will always be people like that who discriminate and judge based off of the one fact they can wrap their heads around. That's cool, neither one of you each other anything. People shouldn't worry about perpetuating myths. Be you; you ain't gonna ever be anything else, anyway. And that's definitely not a bad thing.

Play the kits you like playing. Non-evolved players get muted.

I've played with female players using krogran, turian, etc. (sometimes pink armor, sometimes not), as well as male players using asari, Fury, Shadow, etc. I love spamming biotic combos, so I play asari a lot.

As for the neanderthals you ran into, they are probably unaware of their own fascination with customizing their BroSheps being analogous to accessorizing a Barbie (Armor and Assault Rifles vs. Hand Bags and High Heels)

To be fair I wasn't saying that women never play tanks, just that I see them playing tanks considerably less often than any other role. Some of the best people I've tanked beside over the years have been women.

Tanking is actually my favourite role in the standard holy trinity =P

Although in ME3 there are really only damage dealers of varying durability.

Ok, here it comes from another girl. I play GI!  :D

Then there is this thing. I like playing female characters. It feels more...closer(I guess) to me. I started playing ME as Asari Adept, then I moved to Justicar, then I wanted Fury. But as mp grew more and more on me, I widened my horizons and I just wanted to try everything, because it seemed interesting to me and I did. Today I don´t care if the kit is male or female. Each has different aspects I enjoy.

I notice the same trend when I play Warframe, except Warframe didn´t really grow that much on me. I don´t feel the same incentive to try everything, so I admit it, I just play female kits there.

Yeah, I used to play Halo and that was ... interesting sometimes. Had to disable communication in the end, heh.
