Hello, I just recently finished the ME trilogy. Much like another science fiction series, Halo, I absolutly love the story and expansive universe. So, much like I did with Halo, I plan on diving more into the story by reading books and comics. My question is, even tough I have completed the entire series, should I play the DLC? I plan on getting the DLC for ME3, but I was more curious about whether or not I should get the DLC for ME2? Seeing as how I have completed the series, I feel like it would be pointless to play the DLC for ME2 since I have already went on to finish the series. Would the experience alone be worth it?

Thanks

The Shadow Broker DLC is a must have, must play, for fleshing out Liara's story. If you are going to buy books and comics, you should also get Shadow Broker. Arrival does contribute to making the story make somewhat more sense as to why Shepard is confined at the beginning of ME3, but I don't know that the DLC is all that great. Not having the Zaeed and Kasumi's DLC's greatly detracts from the ME2 and ME3 experiences, particularly the Kasumi DLC.

Alright, now, would you still reccomend playing them even though I have already completed the entire series?

I would definitely recommend all of the major Mass Effect 2 DLCs even if you've already played the series. Kasumi: Stolen Memory, Overlord, Arrival, and Lair of the Shadow Broker all are worth playing, especially LotSB.

For Mass Effect 3, I'd highly recommend From Ashes, Leviathan, and Citadel. The first two add to the story of the main game, and Citadel is just a great mission. Omega is fun too, but not worth $15

The logic in Arrival's story is pretty iffy, but I found it to have pretty satisfying combat. I enjoy padding the trilogy with all of the DLC's. I'd probably have Pinnacle Station if it was possible to have it on consoles.

I tried Pinnacle Station. Took 30 seconds to decide I didn't like it.

I guess I should be glad that I'm not missing out on much, though even if it was great, it wouldn't see a lot of repeat plays, since ME1 and 2 get the least amount of replays. I basically just go through them to establish a Shepard for ME3.

Same.

There are some parts of each of the first two games I still enjoy playing through, but all in all they're just for establishing my ME3 setup.

Pinnacle Station was free for me, 'cause of the Trilogy set. PS3 doesn't have that DLC, but I already tried it, and I would say that you aren't missing much. OMG! I really had to try to die, 'cause the enemies were so weak!

I got it for free as well after I moved my Mass Effect install from Steam to Origin. It was just there. Because of that I don't feel bad about not playing it. I did try, but I figured out right away that it wasn't something I was gonna enjoy. I just wanted to get back to stopping Saren.

If you're saving money, and you know you're not going to play ME2 much, I'd say, don't buy any DLC for ME2 'cause you can flag it as "done" in the ME3 Save Editor that's if you're on PC.

ME1 DLC

- Bring Down The Sky: it's given away for free now, it's a bonus stand-alone mission that doesn't have anything to do with Saren and the main plot.

- Pinnacle Station: give it a miss. very boring training camp - and you get a much better version in ME3.

ME2 DLC

- Zaeed "The Price of Revenge": your receive Zaeed Massani as a bonus squadmate, and he's really a beast! one of the best characters in the trilogy. such a shame his voice actor is now dead.

- Kasumi "Stolen Memory": you receive Kasumi Goto as a bonus squadmate, and she's a sweetie :) and pretty useful I might add. she's also got a very cool loyalty mission.

- Crash Site: it's not an action mission, you just land on a planet to retrieve some things that hold great sentimental value to Shepard & others.

- Project Overlord: it's actually a pretty decent set of stand-alone missions, so it gets my vote!

- Lair of the Shadow Broker: definitely a must-have, especially if you're a Liara fan. even if you're not, it's got great action and answers a few questions about Shepard.

- Arrival: another must-have as it bridges the ending of ME2 with the beginning of ME3. it's more action-oriented and it's a solo mission, without squadmates. It will remind you of "Bring Down The Sky" as both DLCs are situated on asteroid surfaces.

ME3 DLC

- Extended Cut: it's free and it's a must-have. SERIOUSLY.

- From Ashes: oh definitely a must-have! You receive Javik as a bonus squadmate, who is the biggest, funniest troll in the ME trilogy.

- Leviathan: it's lore-heavy and delves deep into the origins of the Reapers. the action is ok, but for me it could've been better. If you prefer lore over action, you'll love it.

- Omega: for me it's a must-have, especially if you end up loving Omega itself in ME2. it's action-heavy, not big on lore. lore-lovers hate it, action-lovers love it. personally I love it. you can't bring existing squadmates with you, but you get to team up with a real badass Asari and a female Turian mercenary. they are Omega-exclusive squadmates so after the mission is over, you can no longer take them with you.

- Citadel DLC: it's a stand-alone mission that has nothing to do with the main plot. on its own, it's a fun side mission, and you get to host a huge party with all the squadmates you teamed up with in the trilogy. it also has a battle arena and games. it's the final DLC of the trilogy, and personally I wish they had spent all the resources to improve the final ME3 mission.

personally whether I like or dislike certain DLC, I got all of them because they're chunks of the games. without them it's like playing only 60% of each game.

Let's not forget to tell them this: If you're going to read the books, ONLY read the ones written by Drew Karpyshyn (Revelation, Ascension and Retribution). Do NOT read the book written by William C. Dietz (Deception). It is an absolute mess that goes completely against not only lore but common sense in many, many places. Avoid at all costs. The other three books, however, are excellent.

Yeah, I've heard the 4th one is not so good. I'll probably pass on it.

Wow, thanks for going so in depth into the answer. I appreciate the help. I plan on playing all the ones that you listed for ME2 and ME3. I don't know if it'd be worth it to go back and play through the entire game just to play the ME1 DLC though.

I checked "Deception" out from the Library and it was all over the place. The plot dragged along for quite a bit and the resolution was just too fast and it really didn't have much of a point to it.

"Bring down the sky" is fun but you won't get major story alterations with out it. You'll just meet a character from the DLC in ME3 and the dialog will be slightly altered to mention what happened in the DLC. Pinnacle station is not worth it at all. But every DLC for ME2 and 3 is worth it. If you have the Cerberus network code with your trilogy pack, you get Zaeed and Crash site along with Project Firewalker (A few missions were you hover around in a replacement for the Mako). Each Story DLC for purchase is worth it. For weapon's packs and alternate costumes, you don't need them unless you have some extra cash to spare. I'd recommend getting the Weapons pack that gives you the Geth Shot gun in ME2. It's the best shot gun out there. If you don't, don't worry about those.

The geth plasma shotgun is definitely the best shotgun in ME2. It's too bad you lose it in 3, and don't get it back until the game is more than halfway done.

It's worth replaying me1 just to make different choices. Kill wrex if you didn't.
