The broodmother was pretty disgusting. Mass Effect's banshee, her wail and the way she stabbed through the heart was scary. I don't remember any scary creatures in DA2. They're all pretty nice, elegant, clean looking. The undead creatures in DA should look and feel scarier.
Will we see any scary grotesque creatures?

Corypheus was pretty scary in both how he looked and how much he made me slam my head on my desk dealing with him on nightmare.

The broodmothers were... gross, yes. The Banshees, though? Not really scary, tbh (unless you're on platinum). The Mother in Awakening was almost like something out of Resident Evil, and the Thorian from ME1 was pretty gross too. Oh, and the Harvester from Golems of Amgarrak.
Honestly, I think that the Nightmare demons (shown in part 2 of the DA:I demo) were meant to be one of the creepier enemies you could face. DA tends to have the creepier and/or grosser-looking enemies, so I'm pretty sure that we're going to see more of them in DA:I.

These have nothing on a Broodmother, but they might please you:

This slightly reminds me for a model of the Alien from Aliens that I saw once:

The giant spiders are scary and grotesque enough, thanks.

I want a demon that is so cute and cuddly that you can't help but want to pamper it and serve it. that would be scarier than any broodmother I have ever seen. I mean at least broodmothers have the whole multiple breasts thing. A demonically cute furry being is just... evil..............................

I think the best grotesque enemies were the Broodmother and the Harvester. The others were pretty sub-par, and honestly I found the mother more comical than unsettling.
Also, for Mirrman70:

Isn't Iron Bull enough for you?! I mean how many other grotesque creatures do you want in this game.

I found The Children to be the most disturbing enemies in the series, actually. The Harvester was pretty creepy in Golems of Amgarrak but that was more due to atmospherics and cinematography than anything. When Orsino turns into a Harvester it just looks kind of dopey.

If giant tentacles don't come spilling out of The Rift... I will be disappointed.
Oh look! Hellbo--!
I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going.
... thanks for that image... I will never see Hellboy the same way again... ![]()

Yes, but don't worry; the companions are not mandatory.

They may be cliche but Giant Tentacles coming out the breach would make it more badass.

I forgot about the children! Definitely agree on dopey Harvestino, but then so much of the horror and grotesqueness is in the context. I doubt even the Broodmother would be anywhere near as disturbing as she was out of context.
I hope we see more/similar things to the Children in the future.

Now I'm just thinking of what the Broodmother and Harvester would look like with the frostbite engine....Urgh
EDIT:
I think sound, animation and cinematics work really well when first portraying certain enemies to make them seem more terrifying.

What about the Children and their 'evolution' on the battlefield playing out in the Frostbite 3 engine?
The Broodmother in Origins was scary because of the atmosphere and the build up to her reveal, but the Children; especially when one grew legs the first time and then charged at me; were the scariest part of DA:O/DA:A. They reminded me of the Necromorphs in Dead Space.
Already kinda creepy looking and then they undergo some grotesque change, and become even more deadly, and then its like: "KILL IT! KILL IT! OH GOD ITS GOT ME! GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!"
So BioWare please have the Children, or something equally scary in DA:I.

Well... we've already seen the companions... so...
Seriously though, I don't think anything can get scary grotesque with this art style. Most creatures look like they're from those MOBA games. Large and detailed, but never intimidating or scary.

This wouldn't be Dragon Age without some gigantic, disgustingly hairy abomination of a spider taking up 3/4 of the screen after ambushing you in a small cave [shudders].... ugh... definitely my least favorite part of the game. And while I'm here, I'm not at all a fan of that weird looking zombie with the huge gaping mouth and about 20 eyes on its forehead. Let's hope those are rare. ![]()
