Answer to that is simple Mikey - they should be in if they make sense. Like anything else. If we go down some redlight-esk district and it's all bunnys and flowers that wont make any sense. If they throw a brothel in a Chantry i'm gonna be super awkwarded out you know?

 

Past that, it's bioware. It'll be pretty inclusive on it's brothels. ME is the only recent time exception (though they just had dance bars). Maybe the next ME will incorporate some hawt half-naked Krogan-man action on an industrial pole. I may not be into dudes, but I also kinda wanna see that.

I guess both man and woman prostitutes is a good thing. It covers your bases from the "equality" and "objectifying women" arguments.

That depends entirely on who you talk to Rated R heh. Just cause you objectify men doesn't mean the others not happening? I think the issue, ultimately, comes down to the excessive nature of it in any given industry, in are culture, hell in just about every culture. You also have some people who are ok with that, on a personal level in relation to their own sex as long as it's not an abusive or destructive manner.

 

I the end, BioWare doesn't tend to do it in an abusive of destructive way, and it's ultimately the only reason I don't have an issue with it and enjoy the stuff in there games. But like I said, worlds big, you will always have people who have issue with it, no matter how 'equal' it is.

Its not like we are asking to be able to install a Brothel in Skyhold Keep just to raise money - ala NWN2

@Mikeymoonshine: I don't think they should, I'd like it if they treated the brothels as characters/a character of its own like anything else they do. Both genders should be represented and all that. DAO I feel like it got around that by them not existing till you went to the hostess and 'asked' for it. She'd bring a group that where 'willing' based off your. Granted it was kinda the same, always, regardless but yeah.

 

In the end, I think the 'less' you flesh something out, weather from lack of time or being scared of lashback, the less justice your going to do to whatever that is, regardless of what it is. Same can be applied to 'anything' random bandits with no purpose, no story, just kinda exist to be cannon fodder is forgettable. It's always better for us, as players when we get some story, some background, some actual character into the interaction. That's what make sit memorable ultimately.

@Lexxbomb - very true! Though it always bugs me when they taunt you with the idea of it but never deliver. It's like a monster movie with out a monster anywhere. Also... I'd install a brothel if It was available on some chars

Their is a lot of thing in da that are not line with how our world social history developed. We have a wider acceptance with homosexuality in the middle evil/Gothic/renascence era dragon age is in unlike how our world socially develop . Added, working woman, woman in arms and  woman in government. With that type of divergence around why not have both men and woman be whores be one of them?

The world of dragon age is not male dominant.

Yup Leaguer, there where time periods prior to Medieval/gothic that where very much into the stuff are society is eventually getting back to accepting. Course they had other problems like throwing people into rings and watching tigers kill them for amusement but hey, no society is perfect.

 

There should definitely, 100%, be male whores. There's plenty of people who like the profession (though it's demonized in our society, and is often taken heavy advantage of). Like they say, it's the oldest profession... doesn't make it a bad thing, even if are current version of the world has hold over issues with it.

It's just some have expressed a dislike at the 2dness of the prostitutes. How far should Bioware go with developing their characters? Is that even worth doing? 

 

In DA2 a couple of the sex workers were involved in quests, that was an interesting use for the space in my opinion and It would be kinda kwl if they did that more. Seeing as I don't really ever use the brothels anyway.

Also, shouldn't 1 or 2 have some sort of STD that our Inquisitor can catch which comes with a debuff that becomes permanent if not treated right away?   (most likely won't happen)

First of all Male prostitute not realistic mikeymoonshine most likely trolling. And you right world of dragon is female dominant. All chantry is matriarchy, Tevinter chantry is male dominant and portrayed as evil. Empress Celene. Anora smart, Cailan fool. Loghain power hungry, Loghains second in comend still honourable.

I think the 2dimensional nature of anything is bad, as i mentioned above. Adding a few quests to a brothel can be a good way to add character to the area, regardless if someone is ever going to participate in any of it.

 

Key word here I think is character, if they put one in, it should be a character. The whole place as a whole and the individuals making it up.

The biggest moneymaker is if you give up Cullen as an advisor and use him as a ****** instead.

The only downside was that they vanished after the quest was over. As you said they should be proper characters like any other. 

Yes that was scary. The one with the scarecrows especially.

 I already assumed Leliana would have had the Brothels in the covert wing... Maybe as part of the covert skill tree for the Inquisition

There were quests in the Origins brothel as well, IIRC.  But I don't understand why you seem to feel everyone working in the brothel needs to have a backstory. 

 

Origins had a brothel where you just walk up to the woman, tell her if you want a man or woman (or either), and you basically got to pick from a random assortment of nondescript NPCs.  Why wouldn't that work?  o0

That's not... really what he was saying. Your going to have background characters, it's part of the atmosphere. They're the extras in a movie, the description of the scene in a book. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be some characters. The person who owns the place, the few workers you talk to. Any quest related NPC.

 

Quest complete shouldn't just completely remove them from the game though, that's a tad weird. I mean who the crap just never shows up at there place is business just because someone helped them find something? "Well I used to work at that place, but then some guy helped me find my dog that ran away so I stopped going to work" <--- the crap?

The quests didn't have anything to do with the sex workers. I never said everyone needs a back story I just asked what other people thought about the characterization of the prostitutes, So we could discuss it. 

 

I'm not saying it wouldn't work but would that be a good thing? Should the sex workers just be random personality lacking npcs who are just there for the player to frack regardless of their own feelings on the matter (coz they don't got feelings  )

 

I actually don't mind all that much. I just think it's an interesting discussion and some people do seem to mind and I like reading what they have to say on the matter.

I don't think you should expect anything incredible in terms of whorehouses in DA:I or any DA game in general. It will just have you wasting coin and a blackout scene with nothing really happening. 

 

If you want a RPG game that treats you like an adult when it comes to things like sex and prostitution, Witcher is the way to go. In the Wild Hunt E3 demo, they showed parts of Novigard and they had an entire district dedicated to brothels. 

 

I'll pass on a game that treats women like objects to be desired and attained rather than DA, which treats them like people
