Now that we are so close to the release of the game, this may be the last opportunity we'll have to especulate before the game is either out or leaked. So, shall we?

"One day the magic will come back - all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see."

"One day the magic will come back - all of it"- Unknown, at this point. I don't believe Sandal is referring to the Breach as the magic comig back; rather, I believe he is claiming the Breach is a result of the magic returning.

Unfortunately, we have too little information to determine just what aspect this "magic" will take.

First, did Thedas used to be a more magical place?

The answer is: yes. The comic books have mentioned how there was a time the Veil didn't exist and dragons ruled the skies. Now, the dragons have returned and the Veil has been breached. Perhaps this is evidence the "magic" is coming back. But what form will it take?

"Everyone will be just like they were." - some have hypothesized that Sandal is alluding to the Dalish legends that all elves used to be mages and that they will be so again, possibly with all humans becoming mages as well.

Personally, I have a different theory; Sandal is talking about how the Breach will restore the minds of all Tranquil.

We know it is reversible if a demon or spirit make contact with a Tranquil; Karl described it as "briging a piece of the Fade into Thedas".

Well, the Breach brought the Fade and Thedas closer than they have ever been and thus "everyone will be just like they were".

Of course, if I am right on this, it is entirely possible "the magic will come back" is simply referring to Tranquil regaining their magical powers and the "magic coming back" is actually a result of the Breach rather than vice-versa.

"the shadows will part." - Unknown, in fact, there is conflict information. Eleni, the talking statue, claims that the darkness will cover all while Sandals says the opposite. Who is right? Impossible to say yet.

"the skies will open wide." - The Breach, obviously.

"when he rises" - The Elder One?

"everyone will see" - Unknown.

I first thought the "he" was the OGB but I believe it was confirmed that if you did not do the ritual the OGB isn't in the game at all, so my guess is "he" means the Inquisitor or The Maker. I have a theory that one (or both) are actually in some form an antagonist (humor me, think a little like the prologue of fire emblem: awakening for the inquisitor) based on what Corpyheus says about the City already being black.

About the magic coming back, I have a feeling we may be seeing dwarf mages in some form, and that Sandal himself may be a form of a hedge mage.

I've speculated the dwarves once had magic as well, and that's what he means.

I've also speculated Sandal might be a tranquil dwarf mage.

The wiki speculates he's the son of an Aeducan and either an elf or a human.  I wonder if it was an elf mage, and maybe the magery he might have inherited is not interacting well with the dwarfness?

Exhibit A: Not enchantment.

The prison is breached, I see the encroaching darkness. The shadow will consume all...

A hunger, a cage, a yawning void, help me...

Keep in mind it was the Veil tears causing it to say that. So it looks like the Golden City was actually a prison :L

The Elder One?

That does bust my theory, unless, again, it didn't work properly.  It's not like anyone's ever tried it on a dwarf.

But, like I said, Sandals claims that "the shadows will part".

The prophecies are contradictory.

Maybe Sandal sees it as a good thing, and the statue didn't?

Not completely but they are much less linked to it than other species. Tranquil however are completely cut off.

I vaguely recall DG saying that the prophecies (both Sandal's and the statue's) meant absolutely nothing. I could be wrong though as I don't know the source of that vague recollection. lol

I don't see how they could mean nothing .... Sandal's prophecy was clearly foreshadowing the events of Inquisition. Something's gotta be going on with that kid. If he ends up just being a glorified enchantment dispenser at the end of the day, I am going to be seriously disappointed.

I've always thought that when he said "The magic will come back" he was referring to everyone, including the dwarves, possessing magic because the Fade and the physical plane will merge, letting everyone draw power from the environment itself.

I think that Sandal is only half Dwarf. He's either half human or elf. I think elf, because the dwarf half obviously took over physically and thats how it is with human/elf hybrids. I think that his non-dwarf side allowed him to possess magic. I think either because he is half dwarf, his magic is different than everyone elses (perhaps hedge mage?) or he's a tranquil. I think he gets too excited to be tranquil though.

Sandal could be talking about both tranquil people and everyone becoming magic. (Or magic and immortal, in the case of the Elves)

"One day the magic will come back - all of it. Everyone will be like they were before."

But I'm kind of curious about the word 'before'. Before what? Before humans came to Thedas? Before the Blights? Before the Maker?

give me context or give me death.

Could that be the statue fortelling the events of Legacy?  Hawke and company did breach a rather complex prison that unleashed a magister of old that had been in the black city.  Which could still be what leads to (or at least contributes to) the events of Dragon Age Inquisition.

gaider can say what he wants about it all being not true (i.e. sandal being a joke and unimportant), but when it comes down to dragon age 9, years from now and they are looking for plot ideas....  he might have to eat his own words.

Well what they say can be interpreted in many ways because what they say is very unclear so they are not .contrary to each other they may even refer different things/events.

That just makes me wonder if devs have some sort of plan when it comes to dragon age or perhaps they don't know what they are doing and put randomly and then we have situations like this.

im thinking instead of the cryptic prophecies, they should just have sandal go:  "the plot of the next game involves qunari....  boom."

I love this topic and I too would be incredibly disappointed if Sandal's prophecy meant nothing, I just can't see that...
