I thought this was discussed already, but I can't seem to find it.

I have three images I want to use to tell a story. I'm planning on using them in one of the conversations at the beginning of my adventure.

I know that I will search for them in defaultTGA of a the conversation line however, I cannot remember where I wrote down the dimensions for the picture of those files.

Anyone know?

They can technically be any size, and will be resized automatically to fit the screen.  I would recommend 1920x1080, that being the standard baseline HD fullscreen.  You could use anything smaller than that with the same aspect ratio, such as 1600x900 or 1280x720, if you want to keep the images smaller, but they won't look as good blown up for users with higher resolution.  Either way, it will not result in any distortion of the image, unless your player is using the older standard of a 4:3 aspect ratio.

As a side note, as i recall, any screen (UI_Scene) that is not full screen is limited to 1024x768 in size. Full screen simply scales based on screen resolution, so these days, yeah, you probably want to format your images in widescreen aspect ratio if going that way.  Otherwise a 4:3 aspect ratio if going 1024x768.  If you have a custom size in mind then format according to that, just remember, max width 1024, max height 768.

What 2da file should I alter?

You don't need to alter any 2DAs if you're just talking about using TGAs as fullscreen "slides" in a slideshow-like conversation.  And that kind of use is not limited by the 1024x768 limit that Loki mentions.

They don't actually need to be Targas, either.  You can save them as DDS, as I did for my slideshow epilogue, and that saves a lot of space.

Good tip about the space! Thanks

EDIT:

So I am pulling up the DefaultTGA and setting it to "picture1"

I noticed that all the TGAs for that conversation are now "picture1"

So thinking I could have a little slide show I moved down a few lines.

I enter DefaultTGA as "picture2"

Now everything is "picture2" when I simply wanted to change that line to picture2.

I'm thinking there may be a way around this that I am overlooking because my first impulse is to create a new conversation that is a continuation of the last one.

In the new conv I would enter the DefaultTGA as "picture2" whereas I'd keep the first conv "picture1"

Does that sound right?

and if I wanted to add further images to the "slide show" I would just flip into yet another conversation linked to the last one. using the script: ga_start_conversation.

EDIT 2:

Umm.. whoops

I see now there are more options for me to explore under "nodes"

You already found it according to your edit, but it is indeed the "TGA to display" under "Node" that you should be changing, not the "DefaultTGA" in the Properties.  Each node can have its own image, and you definitely don't need to create a separate conversation for each one.

I'm happy now, I have this part completed.

Only problem was one of my images was stretched pretty gruesomely.

It's original specs were width: 1754, height: 2481

So it stretched width-wise pretty badly.
