Irish as ****! So many odd spellings. All the Aisling, Liadan, and Caoimhín you can handle!
How do you name your Elves?

I use pretty much a mix of everything. For my first playthrough I'm going with "Albedo" because it sounds somewhat exotic and it describes my quizzy, who will have white hair like Fenris, and I know that's not very lore friendly sicne I'm pretty sure Fenris' hair isn't originally white, but whatever xD I like the idea of a white haired pale elf.
Otherwise though, in Origins I just used the arwen elvish site thingie and chose whatever sound nice.

The back pages of the Silmarillion. My elf in DA:O was a city elf named Elran, dalish was... Taurgil? I forget, I never finished the dalish playthrough.
What a great idea. I'm sitting here in happiness and stunned disbelief that I never thought of this before.
EDIT: Not meant to be sarcastic in any way, Lol. It really never occurred to me to check out Silmarillion for names. Usually I play around with the character's last name a bit... like the Dalish elf origin in DA:O. Their last name is Mahariel, I believe, so I named my elf Mahalie. Ehh, when it comes to naming characters I have an uninspired imagination.

i go with a stereotypical southern name like BillyBob or Buford.
i find this funny as the dalish are the total oposite of some swamp rednecks.

Step 1: Take a Word that fits your Inquisitor. Example: "Feather"
Step 2: Translate it to a random other Language of your Choosing. Example: Feather in Latin - "Penna"
Step 3: Find out how it sounds when spoken by a native Speaker.
Step 4: Adjust the Word so it would be spoken the same by an english Speaker. Example: "Penna" phonetic converted to English - "Penna"
Step 5: Adjust the Word further, to fit the sound of elven Names. They typically avoid hard Consonants and create a phonetic Flow. Example: "Benia"

Depends. Ytrei, Amras, Akeyda, something entirely else... it should fit the character I make.

I just think of names I like, not necessarily lore friendly. For an example, my Dalish elf was named Therion and my city elf was named Darrian.

There are tons of online resources that generate character names, but it pays to look deeper than those initial web pages. For example, I've picked a random male and female elf name to share with you from my extensive list of possibilities.
Male: Voronwë (Vore-on-way) Lavellan.
Female: Erulassë (Air-oo-lahs-say) Lavellan
I've found the potential Qunari Inquisitor names to be more challenging, and only have come up with a few that are acceptable to me.

Sindaria just seemed like a good name for a female elf to me.

I wrote a fantasy names generator a few years ago. I created ten different cultures based on Tolkien, Scandinavia, DnD, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Wales, Pre-Roman Iberian cultures, etc. Whenever I have to pick a name I run my code selecting the culture I think fits the character/background best and I just pick one from the list. It saves me lots of time!

For the name Silvia if you change the spelling a bit it will become a spinoff of Sylvan (Sylvia).

Considering Mahariel's tribe speaks with Welsh accents you could name a character using Cymraeg. So like David would be Dewi'ggyedwaaii... which is pronounced as Stephen.
Mahariel's tribe speak with Irish and Welsh accents. Merrill isn't from that clan originally.
I use the irish or celtic type of names for the dalish back in origin. But since I know nothing of our elf inquisitors background Its either going to be a city elf name which is similar to a humans, or a irish or celtic name fit for a dalish
elfquisitor is dalish

I often take something related to nature and twist it a bit. My elf Mage warden was named Crysantha for example. I took it from Crysanthium the flower.
For the name Silvia if you change the spelling a bit it will become a spinoff of Sylvan (Sylvia).
Actually I specifically spelled with an "i" instead of a "y" to avoid the spinoff. ![]()

Would be a bummer if your last name was 'Neighfear' oh the teasing you would get.
