I'd prefer to attract them with sophistication, civility and reason if squashing hopes and crushing dreams is your intent. People with high enough ideals to be attracted to those qualities tend to break more spectacularily. I can tell first hand, though I prefer to believe I didn't break, just became very jaded and cynic (or a realist as some might call it).
