Now there's a decent chance this has already been addressed somewhere but I figured I'd broach the topic anyway. I can still distinctly remember the first time I saw an Abomination up close. It was the Sloth possessed asshat that I'm sure anyone who has played through Origins more than once hates with a passion. Now, this might be the fact that it was the Monday after my birthday weekend and I was running on empty, but I was genuinely taken aback and disturbed by this thing, almost as much as when I encountered a Broodmother (The fact that my Warden was a Mage certainly didn't hurt the 'oh crap' factor).

I genuinely like their downright screwed up design. They're appearance for all intents and purposes told a story, the body the demon was playing house in clearly was not designed to handle this sort of strain and a series of random and horrific mutations had taken place. As I said, I genuinely like the design of Abominations, but here's my one problem with them. The series of random and horrific mutations has the same end result each time, they all look exactly the same. If they could have just added one or two variations to their design it would have made the monsters as a whole more believable, at least for me.

Long story short, Abominations are awesome freaky monsters, and my one problem with them is that they all look the same. With the leap in generations and the obviously massive increase in graphics, I find myself hoping that this will change in DAI.

I agree. At the very least, it'd be nice to see a difference between abominations that are the result of different types of demons.

Yeah, even just variations in color based on the type of abomination would be great.

It would be nice, even if it's only just a few variations. (Random variations sounds cool but I don't know how that would work). Same goes for the templars taken over by red lyrium. Maybe I just haven't taken a long enough look at them, but they don't look as disturbing as they sound in concept.

I know that as games they're not very comparable but Dawn of War did a good job with this. One of the stronger units for the daemon worshiping chaos crazies was some possessed guys, every time one of them spawned the game randomly chose one of two heads and three different arms. While I know this would be harder to do with the better graphics, as long as the internal skeleton was the same it shouldn't be too hard...right? (Guy with less than zero experience talking here, feel free to commence the verbal beat down)

I'm usually one to try and put a damper on high expectations when it comes to these sorts of suggestions. I can actually see this working, though, provided it's not the "last straw" that pushes past the RAM limitations. (Not that I have more than zero experience either, but it's fun to discuss these things with our limited game development knowledge anyway.)

Well the Heroes of Dragon Age mobile game has Pride Abominations, Desire Abominations, Sloth Abominations with different designs and different tiers of "regular" abominations have different colours and amounts of crap hanging off them.

I was thinking something more along the lines of random mutations but ones that differ based on the Demon would be almost as good.

Different looks/colourations/whatever for different Abominations would be awesome.
