well up front - I do realise this is somewhat of a whiny suggestion, but I still think it might be a nice addition. ;-)

I noticed it is not possible to save both Vigils Keep and Amaranthine. (yes, THIS again. :-) bear with me pls)

a suggestion came to mind: couldnt someone make a mod or DLC, where you would enter the "battle for vigils keep" scenario anyway?

here is what I envision: you would finish the battle for Amaranthine and when your character asks the guard captain how Vigils Keep fared, the battle for Vigils Keep would load, where instead of your main character, you would have the Seneschal at the head of your remaining companions (there are 6 companions in total, due to which you leave 3 at the Keep, thus with the Seneschal you have a full complement and it is only logical that he would take commant of the Keep in your characters absence).

the point is, that after playing through the battle for Vigils Keep and seeing how the Noble Guards pwn darkspawn (at least 1/3 of the attacking forces was mowed down by them... also my approach was with brute force, I didnt make use of the archer or catapults and the darkspawn were still not really a match... makes you wonder how the keep could fall under these circumstances.) it was quite dissatisfying to see, that the keep still fell when there was nobody around to babysit them... the map and scenario are already made, all that it would need is entering a few "if" modifiers.

well anyway - what does the community think about my modest proposal? :-)

I like it; it sort of reminds me of the fight at the gates at the Denerim battle sequence.  However, I thought that Vigil's Keep was supposed to survive if you had all the upgrades, and it was a bug that it didn't.  And it seems like being able to do that would make it less of a choice; maybe it should only be available under certain conditions? (Like if you have most or all of the Vigil upgrades.)

Also, it occurs to me that you'd really be in trouble if you refused some of the companions available.  The plot does say multiple times that we need to get new Wardens, though, so I suppose that would be appropriate.

heh imagine having taken on a bare minimum of companions on Nightmare. guess you would bash your head against the table by the time of the battle for Vigils Keep. :-D

hmmm well I thought of it as a battle which might or might not be won. if your characters die, the captain just tells you the keep fell. if not, he tells you the keep stood fast. a condition is not really needed there. but thank you for the info, guess Ill re-play the whole thing with my second character now to try and get 100% loyalty on everyone (I recruited justice last, so he was only at about 80% or so)

Off topic, but reading the phrase "bare minimum" with your current avatar made me chuckle.  :)

*ahem* well it turns out I did save the keep after all... :-D all of the upgrades were all it took, didnt even need 100% loyalty on absolutely everyone, but I did get confused by the map entry which said "this area was claimed by the blight", but the ending cinematic still confirmed the keep held out (several weeks, actually... 0_o).

aaaaaanyhow ... thanks for the patience and constructive comments! :-)

I can't speak for the modding community since I play it on PS3, but I doubt that there'll ever be a DLC for that, seeing as Awakening is incredibly, incredibly buggy and they've never bothered to fix any but the most game-breaking problems.  If they aren't fixing it where it's broken, they probably aren't going to fix it where it's running as the writers intended :(

Though I do wonder why I bothered to lay out all that money to fix the keep, since it's gone anyway.  Whatever the slideshow shows at the end, Dragon Age 2 considers Nathaniel dead if he was left at the keep (Anders and Justice could have been dropped there in an unprotected keep, though, and they're still in DA2).

Spirits are immortal.

Anders faked his death and actually deserted to be free of wardens and templars. its not a plothole.
