Ghosts is last gen game. I hope they can hit 1080p 60 FPs with it! Anyway, if they get the Xbone to hit 1080p 60 FPs in Doom, that means dumbed down graphics.

Wrong. In Doom's case, the game is using idTech, an engine hard-wired for 60fps. That means even on older consoles that used previous versions of the engine, games ran at 60fps. 1080p, on the other hand, is a matter of optimization.

Personally, I expect Inquisition to be 900p/30fps on Xbox One and possibly 1080p/30fps on PS4. Which is perfectly fine by me, so long as both versions maintain the same quality of graphical fidelity. Remember that a higher resolution doesn't always translate into 'better' graphics when it comes to video games. Other effects like AA, AF, DOF all play a HUGE role in determining the final image quality. To see what I mean, play a 1080p game on your PC with little or no supporting effects and you have your answer.

Either way, I doubt Inquisition will run at over 30fps on any console.

Nope, I am done with AMD video cards. I've had too many problems with them and none of those games appeal to me. Thanks anyway

I'm the opposite had more issues with Nvidia then AMD,also when you use HDMI  connection on Nvidia card you have to use third party software just to get full RGB 0- 255 ,this is not an issue on AMD,about time Nvidia fixed this, see here https://forums.gefor...e-color-format/ ,I bet a lot of  Nvidia users don't even know it has been this way for quite awhile.

Only hardware I'm thinking of getting   is a  video card but I may wait until early next year ie  for "The Witcher 3",might be newer models out by then, upgrading is fun when you have the money.

For DA: I? None. But I've purchased a PS4 and an Xbox One, and I've just upgraded my PC with an i7-4790K, as my old CPU was getting a little long in the tooth.

There's no such thing as "Hard wired for 60 FPS".

If you are looking to hit that .16 millisecond per frame rendering time you NEED to make sacrifices. The amount of those will vary from hardware to hardware.

So if they manage to hit 60 FPS on a PS4 at a given set of graphical settings, given the Xbone's weaker hardware, hitting that same performance level WILL necessitate lowering the fidelity of certain graphical elements.

And yes, resolution ALWAYS equals better graphics, since there is more detail in the scene. Of course other elements also come into play, like AA and AF and the quality and resolution of various shader effects, 3D mesh quality/LOD levels, lighting and shadowing.

One of the most vexing things about the new consoles in fact is that most games running on them STILL don't use AF, or if they do, it's like 4X. Textures become muddy and blurry 10 feet from the camera. I don't understand why that is. I thought for sure no AF would be a thing of the past for consoles once the new one hit. On PC AF 16x is essentially free, hardly ever costing more than a single FPS in performance.

Maybe some type of texture fill issue on PS4/Xbone? I don't know, but they have to figure that out.

My point is no idTech game I can think of ran at anything below. Rage? 60fps on 360 and PS3. The new Wolfenstein? 60fps on every console. Doom? Said to be 60fps on consoles.

I don't disagree with the notion that 60fps will require sacrifices---this is true by itself. However, if an engine is built with 60fps in mind, any sacrifices you make will be negligible in the grand scheme of things.

And yes, resolution ALWAYS equals better graphics, since there is more detail in the scene. Of course other elements also come into play, like AA and AF and the quality and resolution of various shader effects, 3D mesh quality/LOD levels, lighting and shadowing.

If you noticed, I said when it comes to video games. A 1080p game with no AF and x2 AA will NOT look better than a 900p game with x16 AA and x16 AF. Pixels are wonderful, but they can't do everything by themselves.

From what I've seen, this is mostly an issue on PS4 with games using UnrealEngine. Thief and Murdered: Soul Suspect are both examples where this issue is apparent. Both games had better AF on Xbox One than on PS4. Nobody knows what exactly is causing it, but it's believed to be a problem specific to the PS4 renderer (i.e. not hardware-related).

My GPU is already pretty great, so my next upgrade will be an SSD and some more RAM just to make the system itself run faster and smoother.

I might end up getting some RAM as well. My little 2gb's are really starting to feel the pressure with newer games these days.

Be warned: Once you get an SSD, you'll never be able to go back to a regular HDD. It's such an improvement.

Amen! I recently switched over to an SSD on my boot drive, and the difference in general day-to-day operation is incredible. I got one of the recently released Crucial MX100 series, they are very decently priced for the performance they deliver.

I'm also finally upgrading my aged Geforce GTS 250 and replacing it with a Radeon R9280x this coming week - when I power it up, I fully expect to hear the singing of a choir of angels.

This is wide spread, it's not a matter of just one engine. Every game that I've seen on PS4 has this issue.

I spent a boatload on a new PC from Digital Storm with a GTX 780 Ti for this, LotR, and Witcher 3.  Eventually Kingdom Come: Deliverance as well.  I actually just ordered it a few hours ago.  I just don't want to spend the time building a PC myself because I'm generally terrible at building or assembling things, and that would be an expensive investment to screw up.

you could have gotten much better rig if you built it your self

Main advantage is you know it will  all work when  it arrives,I do like to build myself due to being  a lot cheaper and you can customise every component to your liking,it does not take long to build  especially if you only got to stick a motherboard, ram, cpu into the case, key thing is take your time and do it when you are not tired.

I do have the upgrade hitch but nothing  yet cpu wise worthy upgrading over my 2500k( overclocked to 4.4GHz),I might as well wait until next year.

I think I will start a new PC build from scratch ie get a new windowed  case,PSU and slowly build it up for next year(leave motherboard, ram, and cpu until last and get them together).

Hurry up AMD/Nvidia where are your next gen of cards, waiting for you . :)

I hope you use mouse and keyboard for DA:I gaming ;) ,not seen any PC gamers that use controllers unless it's for racing games etc...

I use a controller for any game on the pc that will let me.  I hate using the mouse and keyboard, People who do like the keyboard and mouse, cool, enjoy, but I'm not one of them.  The controller is a lot more intuitive for me then trying to remember what key I have to hit to do things.,  But then, I like the pc for the mods, not the way it works. :)

On topic, not buying anything new for one game, and so far DAI is the only game I'll be getting for quite awhile.  Cyberpunk 2077 looks interesting but that's about it so far.

I'm a very old gamer ie Commodore 64/Amiga  days ;) and have my keyboard more or less same for every RPG I play ,ie  i  key for inventory,c  key  for character etc....

It's more customisable then a game pad which I only use for racing games, plus nothing beats a  gaming mouse for accuracy especially with FPS games.

Maybe I'm a dying breed lol .

I started on a C64 but mainly grew up on (S)NES. I suppose I'm comfortable with either scheme and use whatever is most is most effective for the game. Platformers, fighters, action-RPG (precision movement), I use controller. FPS, strategy, PCRPG (precision targeting), I use mouse and keyboard.

Nothing. My old computer will still be able to handle the game, if not at max settings. I'm not going to buy another computer or upgrade until at least a year.

Oh, that reminds me! I will also be picking up a second DualShock 4 when Inquisition releases, so I can keep one charging while I play with the other. Mostly because the charging cord you get with the PS4 is stupidly short, so I'd have to sit right up in my TV in order to keep playing while charging  :P

I haven't purchased anything new right now, but since Intel has confirmed they are going to be releasing the new Broadwell processors for Q4 2014 I probably will start looking at building a new PC then.  Now there is a rumor that nVidia will be releasing their 870 and 880 video cards in Q4 as well, so I am going to be holding off as long as possible to see what this new hardware can do before I make any purchases.

I've upgraded from a GTX 560 non ti to a GTX 770 a year ago. It wasn't a choice based on concordance to a specific game taxing hardware, but a desire at a point in time I'd thought the upgrade needed.

Well, strictly speaking, I didn't purchase it, my I did upgrade my graphics card last winter to an XFX R7870. Put it on my wish list with Inquisition being the main intent behind adding it, and was lucky enough to have family able to purchase it for me during Christmas sales.

It barely fit in my case, and I have a fairly large full ATX tower.

I've never been into FPS games.  I did play wing commander for about a week and I could not for the life of me get the plane out of the hanger, Total fail and embarrassment.

One of my first rpg video games, whose name I can't remember but I still have the cd, was on the Apple and then there was Baldur's Gate, Diablo, Pool of Radiance, NWN and others.  I got a pc when I couldn't find enough rpg's for the apple.  I still pull some of them out.

When we got a Nintendo for my 6 yr old step-daughter to play with, I loved it. Now at 29+ she insist that I took it over, but really, really when she was with us, I only took it when she wanted me to do the work.   :)   Then we added a saga genesis and then a super Nintendo and the next Sega and then a Playstation, an Xbox and a 360.  Plus the kids got me a WII for my birthday one year.  Yep, I'm a console junkie.

I do still have games on my pc, TOR, KOTOR, but they are usually ones with really nice mods, Skyrim, Fall out NV and Mass Effect Series - just for the ending mod.  I can use  the keyboard or the game pad, I just prefer the controller.    Nope, your probably not a dying breed, my son-in-law also likes using the keyboard, though he has almost as many game systems as I do.  Why I approve of him.  Plus he's nice.  We trade games.   :D
