Well, what exactly is "hardware"? I bought this really long cord that hooks into the headphone jack of my tv, and I plug my headphones into the cord, so that I don't have to sit dangerously close to the tv. I did this because I wanted to be totally immersed in the world of dragon age, just my headphones on and no one to distract me. I'm too poor to afford surround sound stereo set. I mean, I already have them, in the living room... Too much work to move them to the bedroom where the ps3 is.

Lol and here I replaced my old graphics card (can't remember what it was, just know it definitely didn't agree with DAI) with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 thinking that was pretty good xD

I'm very tempted to upgrade now that it seems lackluster compared to what others have...but I really don't want to go through the whole process again...I ended up having to *also* buy a brand new PSU. Screwing around trying to fit everything into the case was a nightmare.

It seems every time I try to improve anything hardware-related I end up finding way more problems and spending way more money than I plan -.-

Oh, don't get me wrong....the 760 was/is still an amazing card....One of the best cards I've ever owned (particularly the EVGA version, with Gigabyte right up there as well), but yes money can very quickly vanish...Custom building/upgrading can be an expensive hobby that's for sure.  And when I replaced my 570 with the aforementioned 760, I thought it was quite the jump- and it was- in performance.  It really is a good card, especially for the price they're off-loading at these days....Even in the Canadian market with the dollar being so low and prices having jumped.

But as with all things....Even what is new-and-hot right now (ie the 980 Classified) will soon become obselete as newer and faster tech is unveiled, typically every 6 months or so.  The trick is, I find, to buy pieces that are yes, at the time, a little bit *advanced* in the upper-end of the Specifications spectrum so that you won't have to feel like you have to upgrade every year...But the bottom line is whatever you choose, make sure that you're happy with your purchase and that it will suit your needs for the foreseeable future (which in my mind is an estimated 5 to 7 years) depending on what you do with your computer (ie gaming, 'Office Stuff' or 3D Modeling).

For as long as it suits your needs (the work you do, or the games you play) then you shouldn't feel obligated to spend money on upgrades just because something newer comes out.

I know people who have machines that are 10 years old, but because they perfectly run and suit the work that they do....they have no desire to upgrade just because something new is out.  Now, if you're running an OS like Win XP-- then YES!  I would emplore you to upgrade ASAP especially because MS doesn't support that OS anymore and you will run into major issues down the road.  But as long as you're moderately current (ex at least Windows 7 (preferably Professional 64 bit)) then you're perfectly fine.  They won't be discontinuing 7 for a long while yet because it's still one of the best OSes they ever made.

But a final point about $$ and upgrading...if you find that escalation is an issue- then my advice would be to work within a budget and stick to it.  The best way to do that I find is to say "I have a budget of xx dollars, this is what I want to do....What are the best parts that I can buy for my money and for what I want to do that would hopefully last me at least 3 years....?"

And with that I have found that if you talk to the right person and ask them to give you honest answers (not just because they want to make a sale)...then you'll generally be in good hands.  And if you have either a Canada Computers or NCIX store (or US equiv.) in your location those are the companies I would deal with.

I apologize for the length but I hope this helps.
