I've just killed the archdemon with my dwarf warrior commoner, and I have been able to speak with all companions a last time before the ending.
But well, in the hall there are Sten, Wynne, and all the others (except Morrigan, of course)... but where the heck is Alistair? ...Did he have to go to the toilet? :bandit:

Shouldn't he be in that hall as well for a farewell? .......Or maybe it's a bug?

Keep in mind that:
1) I made Anora queen, not him
2) I Didn't select him in the main team for the last battle (but I left him in charge of the gate defenders)

Well, he could be nice and tell me "bye", at least.

Please, fellow players, tell me if it's really a bug, or his disappeareance is related to my choices.

.....thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah... the end of this game really seems like it's set up for Alistair to be king. The time or 2 I didn't do so (before I knew how to harden him), he still had all his "I'm their king" dialog, which was really weird. Arl Eamon is supposed to be there, too, but if you make Anora queen, he isn't.

Strange, though, because regardless of ending, Alistair SHOULD still be there, right to your right as you face the room after the cut scene. So up in the same area where Anora is.

Thank you for your quick answer, tehprincessJ :)

Now I know it's not a bug. Ok, I'll have to put Alistair on the throne for a decent goodbye from him ;)

Did you look on the stage near the throne, he's opposite Anora. He really should be in the crowd with the rest of the team but he's got delusions of being King, bless. The whole end-game when he's still just a warden is really messed up.

Oh, but I believe it is a bug. As I said, he should be there, impossible to miss, really. To your right, wearing Cailan's golden armor (strange, that, if he isn't king). Sorry if my response was confusing.

You sure you didn't have him kill the archdemon?

No, Aezeal, he wasn't in my main party for the last battle

Ops, I misread, thanks for your reply, princessJ. Actually no trace of him. I'll retry the last battle with archdemon, let's see this time what happens

Well, it seems that Aezeal was right.. poor Alistair is dead: in the last chat with queen Anora in the hall I selected another dialogue option, and she said he died.

Strange, because I left him in charge of defending the gate (and he didn't die there!). Plus in the codex it's not mentioned that he died in any way.

So, it's probably the game who simply makes Alistair "dead" if you don't make him king or (but I'm not sure of this one) don't select him in your main party for the last battle.

The epilogue is buggy as heck, and often most when it comes to Alistair and his status as king (or corpse). There are lots of problems depending on which options you pick in the build-up or during the speech the monarch gives you. I haven't had Alistair mysteriously die for no reason, though. Not yet at least.

I see.. It's a pity a masterwork game as DAO has got such stupid bugs at its very end..

There are a couple of mods out there that address fixing those bugs. I was surprised to learn that there are even a few conversations that, although they're in the files for the game, are unreachable at certain points becuse of bugs. (For example, you're supposed to be able to talk to Alistair after Duncan has sent you off into the Korcari Wilds and be able to ask him about the Joining.)

I wonder if Bioware would consider putting out a patch reguarding these issues...?

Thanks for the info. Could you please tell me a link where to look for those fixes?

I had kind of the same thing. I was fangirl crazy for Alistair on my first playthrough and was willing to do anything to keep him alive. I did all the required things to keep him alive, didn't make him king (I was dalish and had a feeling that if he was king we couldn't be together), and got to the end of the game.

Anoura says he's dead in her speech.

I subsequently die. Twice. Then the cutscene ends and there he is, right as rain.

All it did was make me want to kill that blond cow even more. I think she did it on purpose.

Hahaha, I see.

Well let's maybe hope for a patch to fix all this mess, because for our poor Alistair dying or living at the end of the story seems more related to bugs ......than to political intrigues or the evil darkspawn :)

(Dialogue Tweaks Mod - it's got links to two other mods that are also pretty helpful with dialogue bugs.)

That's really odd. My first playthrough of the game I was a female elven mage who romanced Alistair, didn't harden him, didn't make him king, and went through the Morri's ritual so we could be together. For me, he was present in the epilogue and Anora made no mention of him dying. Are you playing on PC or console?

I've had this same issue twice now, on two different dwarven nobles. First time around, Anora claimed he died, even though the epilogue said otherwise. Second time around, he was just completely absent from that last scene, and the epilogue was again correct. I want my final dialogue with him, dammit!

On my playthrough with a human noble, the ending scene was fine--he was right where he should have been standing, and I got to talk to him.

Thanks for the replies, fellow players: let's hope for some fix about this in the future! ^_^

Ps: about the dialogue tweaks, I'll check at once... well I'm playing Italian version of DAO, so I hope the fix won't mess up my saves.. however, thanks for the link :)
